Of Rats and Raiders Walkthrough for No Rest for the Wicked

Okay, so as a player of No Rest for the Wicked, I have to say, the “Of Rats and Raiders” quest feels HUGE – honestly, it’s almost like a main story quest itself! You absolutely have to finish it before you can move forward with the main game, and it’s a bit tricky because it sends you to a really high-level area surprisingly early – I started it around level 6. I’m putting together this guide to walk you through everything you need to know to complete “Of Rats and Raiders” in No Rest for the Wicked, and help you avoid getting stuck. It’s got all the important steps and some extra tips too!

Of Rats and Raiders Quest Guide in No Rest for the Wicked

This adventure starts after you’ve completed the Sacrament quest and spoken with Winnick. He’ll explain that the town is having trouble with rebels and asks you to travel east to the Orban Glades to find and deal with their leader, Darak.

Teleport to the Orban Glades using the nearby Whisper, then go north, passing the pond. You’ll see a cave entrance – stick to the left wall inside, and you’ll enter some ruins that bandits have taken over. Fight through the camp to reach the bottom, where you’ll find another Whisper.

You have two options: search the camp for useful items, or go directly to the burning entrance west of the Whisper to fight Darak. He’s a relatively easy boss, particularly if your character is well-equipped. Just focus on dodging his attacks, and you should be able to defeat him. After you win, Darak will run away, and you’ll need to return to Sacrament to tell Winnick what happened.

Find Winnick close to the Gallows, where she’s talking with Odessa. Talk to both of them to continue the quest.

Free Rattigan

Your next task is to rescue Rattigan, one of Darak’s captured soldiers. The keys to his cage are with a guard who’s collapsed near the town fountain, which is located below the Gallows.

Go down the stairs to reach the lower parts of Sacrament, and then head north to locate the guard by the fountain. Steal the key from him and bring it back to Rattigan. After you give him the keys, he’ll instruct you to go to the sewer drain in the Shallows. You can quickly travel to the Saltborn Tower and then go east to find it.

Of Rats and Raiders — The Black Trench Walkthrough

Rattigan will unlock access to the Black Trench, which is Isola Sacra’s huge sewer system. This area is designed for level 15 players, so it’s best to return when you’re more powerful if you want an easier fight. You can prepare by completing bounties for Captain Randolph or finishing the Servant of God quest, or you can jump right in if you’re feeling brave.

To begin the Black Trench, head left to unlock the Whisper. Then, take the stairs down and go to the spot shown in the image. You’ll find the Drainage Cellars Key there, which unlocks the door to the rest of the dungeon. Return the way you came, staying close to the left wall, and use the key to open the door.

Go into the Drainage Cellars and head south. Pull the lever to create a bridge across the gap, then continue south until you reach a large, flooded chamber. Jump or climb down into the water to continue your journey.

Continue north at the bottom to find a lever. Activate it to fill the chamber with water, then return to the spot where you initially jumped down. This will allow you to reach the ledges leading upwards. Head west, and you’ll discover a path to another lever. Pulling this one will unlock the bridge near the entrance to the Drainage Cells.

Beyond the bridge, there’s a locked door. To open it, you’ll need to find the Water Channel Key first. Head to the left, go up the stairs, and you’ll find a large monster guarding it. You can either defeat the monster or quickly grab the key, then return to the door.

The Water Channel

Okay, so when I first entered the Water Channel, I saw these worms attacking a bandit – I quickly dealt with them. Then I headed to the far end and found a lever, but it was guarded by archers! I took them out, pulled the lever, and immediately sprinted to the elevator you see in the picture. You have to be fast, because it starts rising quickly! After that, I kept moving forward, dealt with more archers, and pulled another lever on the opposite side. That one drained a sewer tunnel down below. That tunnel is how you continue on your way, so I went right through!

Next, you’ll come to a big room with a lot of enemies. Defeat all the monsters, and then follow the raised path to the north to discover another Whisper.

Return to the center of the room, and then check the lower-left area. This will take you to a higher level where you’ll find the Sewer Lever Handle Key and another lever that will bring you back down to the center.

On your right is a lever that operates the elevator. Use the Sewer Lever Handle Key to pull it, and quickly run to the elevator before the door closes. Once inside, continue forward. In the round room blocked by a rat and a Torn Human, you’ll find another lever. Pulling this lever will flood the entire room.

Okay, so I flooded the chamber, and now I’m swimming south to these wooden platforms. They’re crawling with bandits, but I made it across to the east side – and it brought me right back to where I started in the Black Trenches! Now I need to pull this lever to flood the main chamber, then head upstairs to the south, take out those bandits up there, and kick that ladder down to send it back to the Whisper. Let’s do this!

Go back to the Whisper and pull the lever next to it. This will create a bridge to the other side. If you prefer, you can also swim across. Once you’re over, head into the sewer tunnel by the campfire to continue.

Darak Boss Fight (Round 2)

You’ll encounter Falstead Darak at the path’s end. He fights similarly to his battle on the bridge, but defeating him here transforms him into The Torn Falstead – a much more powerful and monstrous form.

Torn Falstead looks intimidating, but you can defeat him by being assertive in battle. Focus on attacking from behind while avoiding his tentacles. After you’ve beaten him, head upstairs to the north, and a cutscene will finish the quest.
