One Avowed companion has players divided: ‘[They] sound like a 14 year old middle school loser trying to sound tough’

Declared enthusiasts have plunged into the adventure of the Living Lands, however, one specific comrade seems to be generating annoyance among some – a viewpoint not universally shared by all.

In the game Avowed, your allies will join you in missions and battles, responding to your choices and actions. They may offer support, critique, or try to sway your decision-making towards a specific strategy.

In the realm of Avowed, I’ve picked up a new ally named Marius. His gruff demeanor has got the gaming community divided – some find him annoying, while others argue he’s simply misunderstood. As I delve deeper into the game, I can see that his attitude isn’t as one-dimensional as it seems at first glance.

A Reddit user expressed disdain for a character’s dialogue, describing it as “things they really dislike,” and stating that the conversations often feel “awkward and embarrassing,” making the character appear as if they’re “an insecure teenager pretending to be cool.

Many found Marius quite unenjoyable. However, it’s worth noting that not everyone feels this way. Some players found they grew fonder of him as the game advanced, especially during his companion quest.

People who appreciate Marius find him amusing, describing him as “occasionally quite humorous” and likening him to an “overzealous survivalist relative who tends to overdo things.” To others, his contrast with Kai makes for enjoyable viewing.

To be honest, I didn’t form a strong opinion about Marius since I chose to part ways with him shortly after starting our journey together. This wasn’t due to any annoyance from his character, but rather because I found the skills of other companions more appealing and suitable for my playstyle.

It might catch me off guard when I get back to our Camp, and Marius responds to a decision I’ve made recently, even though he wasn’t present and seems to have only learned about it through others. I’ll need to have a conversation with my fellow campers about keeping conversations regarding me confidential.

For those who find Marius or any other companion bothersome during your journey, take solace in the fact that you have the freedom to switch companions whenever you go to a Party Camp. However, remember that certain quests may necessitate specific characters joining you.

In the fourth major area of the game “Avowed,” Marius significantly contributes to events at Solace Keep, his local domain. So, be attentive to the unfolding storyline to discern which characters are crucial for your progress.

After he’s shared his insights and moved our adventure forward, don’t hesitate to send him back to our Base Camp whenever you see fit. I’ll fully understand and respect your decision.
