In late December, ARC Raiders launched its first ‘Expedition Project,’ letting players start over with a new account and a clean slate beyond the game’s main map. This feature is designed to give players another chance at the game and will be available roughly every two to three months.
Embark Studios recently shared that over a million players tried out a special, optional feature in their game. Considering the game has sold around 12 million copies, this means only about 8% of players chose to use this feature, which involves resetting their account.
Embark Will Evolve The Expedition Project
Currently, ARC Raiders remains the most popular game in the extraction genre. Released in October 2025, it rapidly became a highly-rated and beloved game with millions of players. It generated exceptional buzz on streaming and social media, and continues to outperform many established games as of today.
As a player, I was really excited to join the first Expedition Project in ARC Raiders last December! It was totally optional, but the goal was awesome: we had to gather a ton of different items to build this escape caravan. Basically, we were building a way to leave the safe zone and head off into the unknown – a real ‘walking into the sunset’ kind of moment!
Players then receive a new character and replay the game, now with some helpful improvements earned through the Expedition Project.
Embark Studios recently shared that just over one million players finished the initial Expedition. Considering the game’s sales numbers, this is a fairly small percentage. The developers noted some problems with the Expedition, including a repetitive gameplay loop needed to reach the end and fully unlock all rewards, which likely contributed to the low completion rate.
Players found it difficult to earn the five free skill points given after completing an Expedition. To get these points, they needed to have five million credits worth of items stored in their inventory – essentially, one million credits earned a single skill point.
This is one of the areas that Embark is working on, per the recent interview with PCGamesN:
A lot of players gave feedback about the requirements for earning skill points in the final stage. We released that information a bit late because we wanted to wait until we understood how the in-game economy was working with real players, instead of making assumptions early on.
We initially set five million credits as a challenging goal for players to aim for, thinking some might try to reach it. However, many players then felt pressured to achieve that amount, as if it were a requirement to get the reward.
The team discovered that roughly 35 to 40 percent of players who participated in the Expedition Project were given the correct number of free skill points. They are now thoroughly reviewing the entire Expedition process, analyzing data to find ways to make it better.
