The reception for the game “Lost Soul Aside” has been varied, and this can be attributed to a mix of strengths and weaknesses. While it may stumble in areas such as its story depth and repetitive gameplay, there are aspects where it excels compared to contemporary titles. For instance, its Weapon Assembly system stands out, contributing significantly to a more favorable opinion among those willing to explore it. However, some elements that should be integral to the game, like certain visually stunning features used during scripted sequences, mysteriously do not form part of the core mechanics, which can be quite perplexing.
In the game Lost Soul Aside, the scope for exploration is quite restricted, as most of the gameplay is designed to progress players from one boss battle to another in a linear fashion. However, there’s a greater focus on movement and platforming than might first appear, which includes an unique feature that doesn’t often come up and cannot be triggered at will. This distinctive feature is the Arena-surfing ability in Lost Soul Aside, where Kaser temporarily rides or runs on Arena’s back. This is used either to traverse from one platform to another or to swiftly dodge danger. It would have been more enjoyable if this ability could be activated whenever needed, but it only appears during pre-determined sequences in the game and sometimes cannot be manipulated by the player.
Lost Soul Aside Missed Out by Limiting Arena Surfing

A Flashy Trick That Deserved More Freedom
In the game “Lost Soul Aside,” one standout feature is the thrilling spectacle of arena/sword surfing, which significantly distinguishes itself from the game’s regular combat and movement. Upon first encounter, it seems almost incongruous within the game due to its seemingly random nature and over-the-top flair. However, this exciting maneuver is primarily restricted to scripted scenarios, appearing only when players need to complete a path before a time limit expires, or at a gate where pressing a button once triggers it, with the rest of the sequence being fully automated.

Typically, the ability for Kaser, the main character in Lost Soul Aside, to harness Arena’s power and use it as a sort of skateboard to cross chasms arises when players discover a specific gate. This extraordinary move is not something Kaser can do freely; it occurs under certain circumstances, though the game does not provide an explanation for why this is so. During these unique events, Kaser demonstrates remarkable abilities such as running in circles, flying, or surfing, creating quite a spectacle. Unfortunately, players cannot access these skills at any given moment within the game.

How Arena Surfing Could Have Improved Exploration
In the expansive parts of the game, the squandered chance becomes even more evident. Once it departs from its linear playstyle, the game’s traversal is confined to basic movement and the somewhat clunky platforming in Lost Soul Aside. This is where incorporating Arena surfing could have injected some excitement. Allowing players to summon Arena whenever they wished and glide over landscapes would have transformed exploration from a mere means of reaching one point to another, into an enjoyable journey itself.

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but ponder about the issue of diversity. With such a game centered around captivating combat, the traversal sometimes feels like a pause in the action. If players could somehow combine a fight with a surf, or even transition smoothly from a surf into platforming, the world would suddenly become more enticing to explore and appreciate. Regrettably, one of Lost Soul Aside‘s most impressive moves is held back by the thought that Kaser and Arena are meant for showcasing rather than giving players a chance to participate in it directly.
