As a dedicated Pokemon GO player with years of catching, battling, and evolving under my belt, I must say that this year’s Ultra Unlock event left me feeling a bit let down. Don’t get me wrong, Mega Lucario was a fantastic addition to the game, but the rest of the event felt lackluster compared to previous years. It seemed like Niantic heard our collective sighs and grumbles because they’ve acknowledged the feedback and are planning changes for next year.

In a recent conversation with Dot Esports, Pokemon GO’s director Michael Steranka shares insights on Niantic’s plans for the Ultra Unlock event coming up next year. Moreover, they are actively considering the feedback provided by the community to make subsequent versions of the event more successful. He explains, “Over time, our regular events have become progressively more exciting or generous. What was once a two-fold Stardust event considered a big deal for players is now standard with a four-fold event.” However, he notes that it’s typical for long-lasting products like this to have high community expectations, and the responsibility lies with the developers to meet those expectations and deliver.

As a passionate gamer, I can tell you that Steranka acknowledges there was room for improvement in the Ultra Unlock events this year. He suggests the team should listen to community feedback to make it better. Unfortunately, he didn’t share specific details about what these improvements might look like. Compared to last year, we only received Maushold, shiny Togemaru, and Mega Lucario in Pokemon GO. In contrast, the 2023 version featured up to 10 new Pokemon and shiny debuts. It’s yet to be seen how significant the changes to the Ultra Unlock event will be next year.
