In the most recent update, the game “Bongo Cat” has been expanded to include a multiplayer feature. This addition brings a whole new level of fun and enjoyment to one of Steam’s top-tier games.
Introduced in March 2025, the game titled “Bongo Cat” is a fun and engaging Pomodoro timer that incorporates the viral meme of the same name. This application places the Bongo Cat character on your desktop, making it tap its tiny paws rhythmically in response to keyboard, mouse, or controller inputs. Every thirty minutes, the free-to-play game rewards the cat with a new hat or skin to wear. The game’s straightforward concept has captivated numerous players, reaching a peak of over 194,500 concurrent users in May 2025 (as reported by SteamDB). Although its popularity has waned since then, “Bongo Cat” remains one of the top games on Steam.
Bongo Cat Adds Chaotic Multiplayer Lobbies in ‘Meowtiplayer’ Update
In simple terms, the August 2025 update for Bongo Cat introduced multiplayer to the game, allowing up to 100 players to create or join chaotic lobbies without dedicated servers. Instead, Valve’s networking framework on Steam manages all necessary data. When joining a lobby for the first time, players can pick one of three Legendary Bongo Cat item sets, known as Fusion Sets (Pineapple, Watermelon, and Strawberry teams), which drop only once.
Similar to the basic structure of the game, the multiplayer version is quite straightforward: it’s like having multiple Bongo Cats on screen simultaneously instead of just one. Each player can see everyone else’s actions, and the same goes for the speech bubble that appears when a player activates their cat’s “meow meow” sound by clicking on it. Although simple in concept, this setup can lead to a lot of excitement as more players join and start responding to each other’s actions collectively. If things get too overwhelming, an option to make all the cats stay on top of other windows is available, which can be turned off to hide them behind regular windows. After acquiring the unique Fusion Set, there are no additional advantages to playing the game’s multiplayer again.

Why Is Bongo Cat So Popular?
The basic concept of Bongo Cat is easy for everyone to understand, but part of its success can be attributed to its integration with the Steam Marketplace. This feature enables users to trade the hats and skins that appear every half hour. The same mechanism played a role in the surge of popularity for Steam’s Banana trend as well.
Fundamentally, Bongo Cat serves as an enjoyable desktop time-waster perfect for both work and study. Although its “meowtiplayer” update may not directly aid in maintaining concentration, it does amplify the game’s quirky theme and encourages a playful camaraderie among players.
