Kingmakers, a highly anticipated game on Steam with a large number of wishlists, has been delayed with no new release date announced. However, Kingmakers developer Redemption Road Games reassured fans that the game is still expected to launch soon and that the extra development time will result in a better experience.
First revealed in February 2024, Kingmakers is a unique game that blends battles from the medieval era with contemporary weapons in a strategy and shooter combination. As of early October 2025, it’s currently the sixth most-wishlisted game on Valve’s Steam platform, according to information gathered by SteamDB. The developers, Redemption Road Games, had initially planned to release Kingmakers on October 8th.
Kingmakers Hit With Indefinite Delay Due to Need for Further Polish
The long-awaited medieval game featuring firearms has been delayed just days before it was supposed to release. Redemption Road announced the postponement on October 3rd, and apologized to fans who were excited to play Kingmakers. “We are sorry for letting you down,” said the company in a statement. The indie developer explained that they need more time to refine the game, and also reminded everyone of the high ambitions they have for their first title.
Redemption Road states that Kingmakers really tests the Unreal Engine 4, pushing it to its maximum potential. This results in huge maps filled with thousands of soldiers, smooth cooperative multiplayer, and detailed physics that power a complex damage and destruction system. The team is also working to ensure the game runs well, aiming for a stable 60 frames per second, even on computers that aren’t top-of-the-line. Achieving these goals has proven difficult, which led to the recent delay announcement. Nevertheless, Redemption Road is optimistic, explaining that a large portion of its team – 80% – are engineers “who got into this business to push technological barriers.”

While fans might be frustrated by further delays, the developer assures us this postponement isn’t due to any significant problems. If the game just needs a little more refinement, Kingmakers could have a new release date soon. As we’ve heard before, the game will launch first through Steam Early Access. This will give Redemption Road valuable feedback from players and additional funding to improve the game, ultimately leading to the full 1.0 version.
Kingmakers uniquely combines different game settings and styles, drawing inspiration from both real-time strategy and third-person shooter genres. The game will be released by tinyBuild, a company based in the Netherlands, though its final price hasn’t been announced. Currently, Kingmakers is only confirmed to be launching on PC.
