One of the Best Co-Op Games of 2024 is Coming to Switch 2 Next Year

Fans of playing games with friends will be excited to hear that a better version of Core Keeper is coming to the Switch 2 on January 28th, along with a big update! You can already play Core Keeper on the Switch 2 because it works with existing Nintendo Switch games, but this new version and its free expansion will make the game even more enjoyable.

In 2024, Core Keeper quickly became a top pick for players looking for a great co-op experience. People love how it combines several fun activities – like digging for resources, building a base, battling creatures, making items, and growing crops – all within a beautiful and mysterious underground world. Reviewers have praised its charming pixel art style and the way it balances relaxing moments with challenging, rewarding gameplay. It’s often compared to popular games like Stardew Valley and Terraria. Core Keeper has already won several awards, and the developers, Pugstorm, are planning even more content with a new version for the upcoming Switch 2 and a future update.

Core Keeper Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Void and Voltage Update

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Core Keeper will look and run better, with sharper graphics, a smooth 60 frames per second, improved lighting and water effects, and more detailed particles. A major new feature is the ability to play with up to 8 players together, but you’ll need a Switch 2 console as the host. Currently, Core Keeper supports online co-op with up to 8 players, and up to 4 players locally on the original Switch. Owners of Core Keeper on Switch will get the Switch 2 upgrade for free, along with the new Void and Voltage update, both launching on January 28th.

The free “Void and Voltage” update is coming to Core Keeper, adding a new area called Breaker’s Reach, along with new enemies and boss battles. Unlike other parts of the game, Breaker’s Reach is a mechanical zone filled with robotic creatures like Chargers, Patrollers, and Swarmers. Players will need to defeat these enemies to get valuable resources. The area is guarded by S.A.H.A.B.A.R, a massive and powerful robot that uses laser beams, providing a challenging fight. After battles in Breaker’s Reach, players can use a new Advanced Automation Table to easily craft useful tools, including generators, critter catchers, and proximity sensors.

The upcoming Void and Voltage expansion for Core Keeper will introduce powerful new equipment like miniguns, mortars, and a flamethrower, along with more customization options for your character. Players can explore the dangerous new Void biome, filled with tougher versions of enemies they already know. This enhanced version of Core Keeper will be part of a strong lineup of co-op games available on the Switch 2. Joining it is Split Fiction from Hazelight Studios, a sequel to the award-winning It Takes Two, offering a split-screen experience for two players. And Mario Kart World, launching alongside the console, reinvents the classic racing series with a new Free Roam mode and more characters to interact with.

A new version of Stardew Valley is coming to the Switch 2, alongside an upgraded version of Core Keeper in January. Both games are easy for anyone to pick up and play, whether you’re new to them or a long-time fan, and both will feature improved local co-op play, making them great for families and friends. Core Keeper players can look forward to all the content from the Void and Voltage update, plus the Switch 2 enhancements, when both games launch on January 28th.
