The new adventure game, Dispatch, is receiving a lot of positive attention from critics and is considered one of the best new games released this year. However, it’s currently only available on PS5. Dispatch is the debut project from Adhoc Studio, which is made up of developers who previously worked at Telltale Games.
Dispatch feels like a fresh step forward for the creators of popular story-driven games, letting your choices impact the narrative. You play as Robert Robertson, a former superhero who now coordinates other heroes as a dispatcher. Critics are praising the game’s unique animation style, compelling story, and the excellent performances from a talented cast including Aaron Paul, Jeffrey Wright, and Laura Bailey.
If you enjoy story-driven games like those made by Telltale, you should check out Dispatch. All four episodes are available now, with the final two releasing on November 5th and 12th. We’ll have a full review once those are out, but currently, Dispatch has a strong 84 on Metacritic from critics, and an even better 9.2 rating from players. That makes it the third highest-rated new game of the year based on user scores, trailing only Digimon Story: Time Stranger (9.3) and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (9.6). Currently, you can only play Dispatch on PC and PlayStation 5.
Will Dispatch Come to Xbox and Switch?
As of today, versions of Dispatch for Xbox and Nintendo Switch haven’t been officially confirmed. However, the developers haven’t ruled out the possibility of releasing the game on those platforms in the future. Pierre Shorette, the game’s narrative director, explained in an interview with Insider Gaming that they launched initially on PC and PlayStation 5 because they believe PlayStation is strongly associated with high-quality storytelling. While Switch and Xbox fans might be disappointed, Shorette didn’t completely dismiss the idea of Dispatch coming to other consoles later on.
Given the current excitement around Dispatch, it’s very probable that it will be released on more platforms in the future. Adhoc Studio will likely want to build on its early popularity, and expanding to more platforms is a great way to do that. Right now, Dispatch is available on PC and PlayStation 5, and players on those systems can expect the next two episodes to be released on November 5th and 12th.
