As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation as whispers about the future of one of my favorite Atlus RPGs echo through the gaming community. Recently, a trusted leaker has sparked excitement by suggesting that ReFantazio could be making its way to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 in the near future. The prospect of this classic game gracing the powerful hybrid console seems like a perfect fit, and this latest report has added fuel to the fire, as we all eagerly wait for official confirmation that ReFantazio is indeed on its way to the new Nintendo system.
Launched in October of 2024, Metaphor: ReFantazio climbed up the ranks to become one of the top-rated games of the year on OpenCritic, trailing only behind Astro Bot and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. This Atlus RPG has been affectionately referred to by fans as a “fantasy Persona,”, emulating numerous gameplay aspects from the widely recognized franchise, such as the critical day-night cycle and the significance of nurturing relationships with teammates to advance the storyline and uncover hidden abilities in combat. Critics continue to praise Metaphor: ReFantazio for its immersive world-building, gripping narrative, and distinctive graphics. Soon, more gamers may have the opportunity to experience this acclaimed title on Nintendo’s latest console.
According to a tweet by Shpeshal_Nick, Xbox Era co-founder suggests that he recently received a message suggesting that the game Metaphor: ReFantazio might be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. Further investigation revealed that popular leaker PH Brazil had also mentioned this in January, hinting at an Atlus RPG release within the new system’s launch window. This suggests a potential release before the end of the year. Previous rumors about Metaphor: ReFantazio being ported to the Switch 2 have circulated, with many fans speculating that the game could be officially announced for the console during the next Nintendo Direct, which is reportedly scheduled before the end of July.
Metaphor: ReFantazio Rumored to Be Coming to the Switch 2 Very Soon
The achievement of the fantasy role-playing game, often overlooked, is significant; on its debut day, it sold a million copies to establish itself as Atlus’ fastest-selling title. In late 2024, director Katsura Hashino shared insights about a possible sequel, expressing that although there were no formal plans to expand the ReFantazio series, he dreamed it might grow into one in time. The current craze around Persona 3 Reload and anticipation for the launch of Persona 4 Revival has kept the Atlus development team quite busy as of now.
In the upcoming months, more Role-Playing Games (RPGs) will be released on the Switch 2. “Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles” is set to arrive in September, followed by “Pokemon Legends: Z-A” in October. Additionally, the Switch 2 is expected to see ports of popular titles such as the “Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade” and “Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition”. Fans are excitedly looking forward to these releases on their Switch 2 consoles.
