Summary
- Game Informer is now independent under Gunzilla Games, staff retained.
- Website is revived with updates, reviews, events, and Best Games of 2024.
- Print magazines to return, expanding content and memberships.
Approximately seven months following its cessation by the parent company GameStop, the Game Informer magazine has made a comeback, appearing more robust than ever.
This time around, since the brand of GameStop has been acquired, they will no longer be associated with it. However, the entire team responsible for production remains on board.
Game Informer Is Back And Announces Print Magazine
Game development company Gunzilla Games, known for creating Off the Grid, has recently taken over Game Informer. As reported by Game Informer’s Editor-in-Chief, Tim Miller, this new ownership maintains a commitment to keeping Game Informer as an autonomous source of editorial content.
As a dedicated gamer, I firmly believe that having an editorial team with full control over what content they cover and how they present it is the way to go. Absolutely no interference from Gunzilla or any other party should be allowed in this process.
Last year when it was announced that Game Informer would be closing, GameStop suddenly took down the website. Now, it’s back online and the team has added new content such as game reviews, even featuring their Best Games of 2024 since they couldn’t do so last year. Miller mentioned that the site will offer daily updates with news, reviews, previews, features, event coverage – essentially returning to its original content.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to announce that Game Informer’s website is back online! Even more excitingly, we’re planning to resurrect our print magazines once again. Miller, one of our team members, expressed this: “We aim to revamp the magazine in a grander and improved manner compared to its previous version. To accomplish this, we are enhancing our video content, streaming services, and feature coverage, along with expanding the pool of experts and partnerships we work with, all to bring you a broader range of insights.
Sharing the news about Game Informer’s comeback is something we rarely do, but considering its significant role in gaming history, it warrants an exception.
Game Informer first appeared in August 1991, initially published by the former gaming retailer FuncoLand. Later in 2000, Barnes & Noble underwent a series of acquisitions and mergers which culminated in the establishment of GameStop Corporation. It was during this same year that Barnes & Noble purchased both FuncoLand and Game Informer.
As someone who grew up with the charm of gaming magazines, I can’t help but reminisce about their significance in our video game world. They served as our primary source of news, showcasing upcoming games, offering sneak peeks, sharing strategies, and being generously sprinkled with ads. Nowadays, they might seem like relics of the past, but for those who remember (like myself), there’s an undeniable allure in flipping through their pages.
