One Piece: 10 Characters Whose Haki Is Stronger Than Luffy

Devil Fruits are a fantastic source of power in *One Piece*, but after the timeskip, Haki – the ability to use spirit and willpower – has become even more crucial. To become the strongest character in *One Piece*, you need powerful Haki, even if you have a very strong Devil Fruit. While Luffy has mastered his Devil Fruit abilities, he still needs to improve his Haki. Characters like Shanks and Joy Boy demonstrate that he still has a way to go in that area.

Whitebeard

The World’s Strongest Man

Whitebeard earned the title of the world’s strongest man and wielded a tremendously powerful Devil Fruit, the Gura Gura no Mi, capable of causing massive destruction. Beyond the fruit’s power, he was also a master of Haki, which he skillfully used in battle.

Whitebeard once possessed power comparable to the strongest pirates like Roger and Rocks, and was even able to create a fissure in the sky alongside Shanks.

Rayleigh

The Right Hand of the Pirate King

Silvers Rayleigh is an incredibly powerful member of the Roger Pirates, serving as Roger’s most trusted advisor. He taught Luffy the fundamentals of Haki, and though Luffy has become much stronger, he hasn’t yet reached Rayleigh’s level of Haki control. Even during the events at God Valley, Rayleigh demonstrated immense Haki, capable of launching a Holy Knight with a single blast.

Gaban

The Left Hand of the Pirate King

I’ve been thinking about Gaban, and it’s clear he was a powerhouse on the Roger Pirates. He seems to have been central to what happened in Elbaf. What’s really incredible is that he’s the first character we’ve seen actually overcome immortality – that really highlights just how strong his Haki is. Honestly, based on what we’ve seen, his Haki seems to be even more advanced than Luffy’s right now.

Harald

The Late King of Elbaf

Harald ruled the land of Elbaf and was famed as its most powerful king. It’s clear to fans why he earned this reputation, as his strength was comparable to that of the legendary Rocks D. Xebec.

Harald likely didn’t depend on Devil Fruit powers, even though he could have obtained one during his time in Elbaf. He primarily used Haki. His ability to fight Rocks to a standstill was an impressive accomplishment.

Garp

The Hero of the Marines

Garp is a hugely famous and powerful marine, and also Luffy’s grandfather. Unlike many powerful characters, he doesn’t have a Devil Fruit ability; he’s strong purely through his Haki skills. Even though he’s no longer at his peak, Garp is still much stronger than Luffy, particularly when it comes to Haki. He demonstrated this incredible power by nearly defeating the Blackbeard Pirates on his own, and again during the events at God Valley where he fought against many pirates.

Shanks

The Strongest Haki User Alive

When it comes to incredible Haki abilities in *One Piece*, Red Haired Shanks is arguably the most famous. As one of the four strongest pirates, known as a Yonko, Shanks doesn’t have a Devil Fruit power – he depends entirely on Haki. He’s demonstrated some of the most impressive Haki feats ever seen in the series. In fact, powerful warriors Dorry and Brogy even compared Shanks’ Haki to that of the legendary Joy Boy, claiming it was strong enough to repel the Five Elders and frighten even the mysterious Imu.

Rocks

The Descendant of Davy D. Jones

Rocks D. Xebec is a hugely famous and powerful character in the world of One Piece, and it’s easy to understand why. He was an incredibly strong fighter who primarily used his Haki. Rocks’s Haki was so potent that he could defeat even an Admiral with little effort, and he even managed to reach and escape from Marijoa without injury. During the God Valley incident, he effortlessly defeated Saint Garling Figarland, the leader of the Holy Knights. His Haki was unique, creating shockwave-like impacts that stunned everyone around him.

Roger

The Pirate King

Roger was the legendary Pirate King in the world of One Piece. Similar to other incredibly powerful users of Haki, he didn’t possess a Devil Fruit power.

Roger achieved the pinnacle of power in the One Piece world purely through his Haki, demonstrating just how incredibly strong it was. His Haki was powerful enough to fight equally with legendary figures like Whitebeard and Rocks.

Imu

The Secret Sovereign of the World

Currently, Imu is considered the most powerful character in the One Piece world, and they’ve existed since the time of the Void Century. While much about Imu remains a mystery, it’s clear their Haki is incredibly strong. Even the limited abilities shown through their agents, Gunko and Saturn, are impressive. Notably, Imu’s Conqueror Haki can be felt throughout Elbaf during the ongoing battle.

Joy Boy

The Previous Nika

Joy Boy was incredibly powerful, likely the strongest user of Haki ever seen in One Piece. His display of Haki was the most impressive the series has shown so far. Stored within Emeth for 800 years, his Conqueror’s Haki had a massive impact when released – it sent the Gorosei flying back to Marijoa, cracked the sky, knocked out Vice Admirals, and even visibly shook Imu.

From what I’ve seen in *One Piece*, Joy Boy is unique – he’s the only one who demonstrated this level of mastery with Haki. Currently, he’s significantly more skilled with Haki than Luffy, but I believe Luffy will eventually surpass him.
