One Piece: 7 Characters Who Could Lead Their Own Series

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has gained a worldwide following because of its compelling story and lovable characters. For decades, fans of anime and manga have been captivated by Monkey D. Luffy’s journey to become the Pirate King, and a key reason for the series’ popularity is how enjoyable it is to follow Luffy’s adventures.

While Luffy is a fantastic character, he’s not the only compelling one in One Piece. Many other main and supporting characters – from his crew to his enemies and allies – are equally, or even more, interesting. They’re so well-developed that they could easily carry their own stories within the One Piece universe.

Koby

Koby definitely has the potential to be a typical hero in a shonen anime. At the start of the story, he’s not very strong and is quite shy. However, after Luffy rescues him from the Alvida Pirates, Koby decides to pursue his own goal: becoming a powerful Marine, much like Luffy wants to be the Pirate King.

A show centered on Koby would be really entertaining. It could detail his journey as he climbs the ranks of the Marines, showing the obstacles he overcame to become a Captain. We’d also see more of his work with SWORD and his relationships with characters like Garp, Helmeppo, and his fellow SWORD agents.

Boa Hancock

A show centered around Boa Hancock, the former Pirate Empress and captain of the Kuja Pirates, would be really compelling. While she hasn’t been a main focus in One Piece, she’s a significant character with some memorable scenes.

A series centered on Boa Hancock would be truly compelling if it explored her backstory. It would be fascinating to see how she and her sisters were kidnapped and forced into slavery by the World Nobles, and then how they were freed by Fisher Tiger, Gloriosa, Shakky, and Rayleigh before finally returning to Amazon Lilly. Showing Hancock’s early years as Empress and how she built her intimidating reputation would be amazing.

Ace

Despite being gone from the main story for a while, Ace remains incredibly popular with One Piece fans – just as beloved as he was when he died fifteen years ago. Fans are eager to see more of his story, and the One Piece: Ace’s Story spin-off has already laid the foundation for exploring his background further.

If the story from the novel and manga were adapted, and if the series showed more of Ace’s adventures before his death, it would likely be very popular with fans. Ace is a compelling character who could easily carry his own show, and even knowing his fate, people would still love to see more of his story.

Vivi

Vivi has had a remarkable life. Despite being a princess, she’s resourceful and determined, not spoiled at all. Throughout the story, we’ve seen her bravely infiltrate a dangerous organization, join the Straw Hat Pirates, and work tirelessly to protect her homeland – she’s consistently proven herself to be incredibly capable.

So far, Vivi is the only member of the Straw Hat crew to leave. While the others continue their adventures, she’s been busy with her own life and remains a significant character, especially as the story heads towards its conclusion. Many fans would love to see more of her adventures, and a series focusing on her would be a fantastic way to reconnect with a much-loved character.

Whitebeard

The latest flashback sequence in the Elbaf Arc gave us a glimpse into the past of Whitebeard. While the story mainly centered on Rocks, Harald, and Roger, we also discovered more about Edward Newgate when he was younger.

A spin-off series focusing on Newgate (Whitebeard) after the God Valley incident, showing the beginnings of his crew and their adventures, would be fantastic for One Piece. Even though we know how Whitebeard’s story ultimately ends – similar to Ace – there’s still huge potential to explore his earlier years and make a compelling narrative.

Shanks

While Luffy is the central character in One Piece and a major reason fans adore the series, Shanks is incredibly popular too. He’s a fan favorite and a fascinating character who doesn’t appear often enough, leaving viewers wanting more.

Shanks is a hugely significant character in One Piece. He used to sail with the famous Roger Pirates, and now captains the Red Hair Pirates as one of the Four Emperors. He’s connected to many of the series’ key players and has a rich history, from his time before meeting Luffy to the mysteries surrounding his actions throughout the main story. There’s a lot to explore about his past and present.

Dragon

Besides Shanks, fans are incredibly eager to learn more about Monkey D. Dragon – Luffy’s father, Garp’s son, and the leader of the Revolutionary Army. Known as the “Rebellious Dragon” and considered the world’s most dangerous criminal, Dragon’s mysterious background and limited appearances in the story have left many viewers wanting more.

many.

The recent flashback to God Valley revealed Dragon’s past, and it was compelling. We now understand what motivated him to become a revolutionary. It would be fantastic to see a whole series exploring his life in detail – things like how he met Luffy’s mother, and all of his adventures as a revolutionary, both before and during the events we’ve already seen.
