One Piece: 8 Devil Fruits That Rival Ace & Sabo’s Mera Mera no Mi

In One Piece, Devil Fruits are a major source of a character’s strength. While skill and training also matter, having a powerful Devil Fruit gives someone a considerable advantage. The Mera Mera no Mi, wielded by Ace and Sabo, is a great illustration of this.

The Mera Mera no Mi, or Flame-Flame Fruit, lets its user create and become fire. This gives them powerful attacks and protects them from most physical attacks, as only a handful of other Devil Fruits offer similar strength and adaptability.

Hie Hie no Mi or the Ice-Ice Fruit

When people think of powers that could match the Mera Mera no Mi (fire power), Kuzan’s Hie Hie no Mi (ice power) is often the first one mentioned. Like the Mera Mera no Mi, it’s a powerful Devil Fruit that lets the user create, control, and become a natural element – in this case, ice instead of fire. This similarity immediately establishes them as opposing forces in battle.

However, the Ice-Ice Fruit is arguably more powerful, particularly in a world largely covered by water. Kuzan has proven its strength many times, most famously when he froze Whitebeard’s massive tsunami during the battle at Marineford.

Yuki Yuki no Mi or the Snow-Snow Fruit

The Yuki Yuki no Mi is a natural counter to the Mera Mera no Mi, and was eaten by Monet. Like the Mera Mera no Mi, it’s a Logia-type Devil Fruit, but it grants control over snow. Monet used this ability in Punk Hazard to create thick layers of snow that could even block Zoro’s strong attacks.

Although Monet wasn’t as powerful in a fight as Aokiji, it’s possible the difference isn’t due to their Devil Fruits, but rather the skills of the people using them. Monet’s real strength comes from her intelligence and understanding, not necessarily her ability to battle.

Gasu Gasu no Mi or the Gas-Gas Fruit

The Gasu Gasu no Mi is a remarkably strong Devil Fruit. It gives the user control over all types of gas, even the air we breathe, making them very difficult to defeat. They can create deadly poisonous gases and even transform their own body into gas.

Despite its strength, this ability isn’t unbeatable. It has several weaknesses: the user can only affect things within a certain distance, and the poisonous gas it creates is easily ignited, giving opponents with fire-based powers a significant edge.

Pika Pika no Mi or the Light-Light Fruit

The Mera Mera no Mi is known for its destructive power, but the Pika Pika no Mi emphasizes speed. Its user can move at the speed of light and launch incredibly powerful laser attacks that instantly obliterate anything in their path. Like other Logia-type Devil Fruits, the user is also immune to most attacks unless hit with Haki.

Without a head-to-head comparison, it’s difficult to say which Devil Fruit is stronger. It really comes down to what the user prefers.

Suna Suna no Mi or the Sand-Sand Fruit

As a huge One Piece fan, it’s so cool to see how well-thought-out the powers are! Thinking about it realistically, the Suna Suna no Mi (Sand-Sand Fruit) is a perfect counter to the Mera Mera no Mi (Flame-Flame Fruit) – sand puts out fire, right? But it’s not just a simple weakness/counter; in the One Piece world, the Sand-Sand Fruit is just as powerful as the Flame-Flame Fruit, both offensively and defensively. It’s amazing how Oda balanced these abilities!

I’ve seen this incredible Devil Fruit in action, and it’s truly something else. It lets the user control sand – they can create it, shape it, and even become sand themselves. But it doesn’t stop there; the fruit also lets them suck all the moisture out of living things, and even objects. I witnessed Crocodile use it to conjure huge sandstorms, and shockingly, he even managed to drain Luffy of all his fluids, leaving him completely shriveled.

Yami Yami no Mi or the Dark-Dark Fruit

The Yami Yami no Mi is an incredibly powerful Devil Fruit, but it’s surprisingly not a source of defense. Although classified as a Logia-type, it doesn’t make the user immune to physical attacks – in fact, it actually increases the damage they receive, leaving them more vulnerable. However, this trade-off grants the user a special and unique set of abilities.

Blackbeard gained the power to attract anything – people and objects alike – towards him after eating the Devil Fruit. It’s like a black hole effect! He can then unleash everything he’s absorbed in a massive, destructive burst. This fruit also has a rare ability: by simply touching someone with a Devil Fruit power, he can cancel their abilities out, as he demonstrated when he defeated Ace.

Magu Magu no Mi or the Mag-Mag Fruit

Devil Fruit abilities vary, but some are clearly more powerful than others. Eiichiro Oda demonstrated this in One Piece by connecting the Mera Mera no Mi and the Magu Magu no Mi – it’s the same fruit that ultimately caused Ace’s death, highlighting the difference in power levels.

The Mag-Mag Fruit gives its user the ability to control magma. This magma is much hotter than regular fire, making it more powerful than the Flame-Flame Fruit. Plus, it’s incredibly strong, capable of causing massive destruction and even altering the surrounding terrain.

Hito Hito no Mi Moderu Nika or the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika

Luffy’s Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, is now considered one of the most powerful abilities in the series. Despite being a Zoan-type fruit – unlike Ace and Sabo’s Logia fruits – its strength is so immense it completely overshadows theirs.

Initially believed to be a basic rubber power, the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika is actually a far more potent and unusual ability. When awakened, it transforms the user into the Sun God, granting them the power to change reality itself. Essentially, the user can reshape their surroundings – and even their opponents – using their imagination. A prime example is Luffy, who has demonstrated this by turning the formidable Kaido into a simple skipping rope.
