One Piece Chapter 1160 Shows How Overpowered This Rookie God’s Knight Truly Is

This article contains spoilers for the One Piece manga

The latest chapter of the *One Piece* manga, chapter 1160, has finally begun the much-anticipated God Valley Incident. But before this major battle between powerful pirates and marines, we’ve seen the Celestial Dragons engaging in horrific acts. They’re desperately trying to kill innocent people as part of a cruel competition called the Native Hunting Competition. This is the most brutal and shocking thing the Celestial Dragons have ever done in the story, and it’s making fans despise them even more. However, it also provides an opportunity to see just how powerful certain characters really are.

Long before the climactic battle between Rocks, Roger, and Garp at God’s Valley, one member of the God’s Knights was already causing serious trouble with their incredible power. Although this character demonstrated their strength during the Elbaph arc, recent flashbacks reveal they’ve always been exceptionally strong, suggesting there’s more to their story than many fans first thought.

Gunko Was A Merciless Recruit

She Brutally Killed Civilians With Her Mysterious Devil Fruit Ability

  • She was a key player in the Native Hunting Competition
  • Her Arrow Arrow Fruit is extremely deadly
  • She was relatively unknown by many of the Celestial Dragons at the time

The Native Hunting Competition isn’t just a display of power for the often-weak Celestial Dragons; it’s also a chance for the God’s Knights to demonstrate their own strength in a violent competition. The latest chapter focuses on Gunko, a relatively new knight who was recently introduced alongside Shamrock when they met Loki during the Elbaph arc.

Before Gunko makes her first appearance, two Celestial Dragons talk about the upcoming tournament and the hunters they’ve bet on. One admits he invested heavily in the Shepherds as a team, but he favored Gunko to win the individual competition. His friend points out that despite her strength, Gunko was still seen as an up-and-coming fighter, not yet as well-known as the other members of her group – they referred to her as the “Knighthood’s Pet.”

Even though characters express worry about her, the next scene shows Gunko brutally killing several civilians with her Arrow Arrow Fruit power, piercing their chests. The God’s Knights are known as incredibly strong fighters in *One Piece*, and Gunko stands out as particularly powerful, likely for a specific reason.

The God’s Knight Is Imu’s Right-Hand

Gunko Clearly Has A Close And Strange Bond With Imu

  • Gunko has been by Imu’s side for a very long time
  • She is able to speak with him without being killed

A recent line of dialogue offers a new clue about Gunko’s past. A Celestial Dragon refers to her as the “Devoted Blade of God,” which initially seems strange, but makes more sense considering her recent appearances in the manga. For example, in chapter 1155, it was already surprising to see Rocks talking to Imu, but Gunko was also present, accompanying Imu during their conversation.

“The lives of kings are no threat to Mu” – Imu

Imu is a notoriously powerful and secretive villain – those who directly see them rarely survive. However, Gunko appears to be an exception. Evidence suggests she’s Imu’s loyal assistant, willing to carry out even the most terrible commands.

It’s worth recalling that Imu fully controlled Gunko’s body during the Elbaph arc, suggesting a unique and strong connection between the two. Considering this, it becomes clearer how Gunko achieved such power, especially since many Celestial Dragons knew very little about her at the start of the God Valley Incident.

How Did Gunko End Up Working With Imu?

There Have Been A Few Hints As To Why This Relationship Formed In The First Place

This raises the question of how Gunko and Imu became so close. While Eiichiro Oda will probably reveal more details soon, there are already clues suggesting how their unusual connection began. We’ve seen Gunko has a mysterious link to Brook, and although she might be his daughter, it’s also possible Brook once protected her when she was a young Celestial Dragon. She may have then chosen to give up her privileged life and become Imu’s servant.

It’s so fascinating to me that Gunko is currently the only God’s Knight Imu can control, and the timing is *really* strange. Imu only took over when Gunko started remembering Brook! A lot of us think Imu wiped Gunko’s memories when she first joined forces, but why? Was it just about gaining more power? Or was Gunko so heartbroken after hearing about Brook’s death that she made a quick decision she regretted? It feels like things just spiraled out of control for her, and it’s a huge mystery!

“What is this memory!? Brook? Are…you Brook? – Gunko

Gunko was a formidable and ruthless fighter even early in her career, exceeding the expectations of even the Celestial Dragons. Given how powerful she was during the tournament, it’s understandable that Nami and the Straw Hats are struggling against her now, as she’s only become much stronger since then.
