I’m really looking forward to the next chapter of One Piece! Eiichiro Oda is back after a two-week break, and chapter 1180 promises to be huge. It looks like we’re finally going to see the World Government’s leader, Saint Nerona Imu, arrive on Elbaph – and it seems she’s going to be the final villain. The tension is incredibly high, and it feels like this story arc is building towards its epic conclusion. I, along with every other fan, am on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the final battle between Luffy, Loki, and Imu unfolds.
Why Imu’s Strength Showcase In Elbaph Is Up Next
The latest chapter of One Piece, 1180, revealed Saint Nerona Imu’s incredible power on Elbaph. He activated a Devil Fruit – known as the Akuma no Mi, or The Devil’s Fruit – and transformed into a being resembling the Devil itself. This transformation seems to be a powerful awakening of his Devil Fruit abilities, directly affecting everything around him. While the full extent of his powers is still a mystery, chapter 1180 promises to showcase them in a spectacular and unprecedented way.

Right now, Luffy is completely drained, and Loki is still healing, so Elbaph’s two most powerful fighters aren’t at their peak. They’ll need time to recover before they can fight again. It looks like Imu is going to use this opportunity to test them against other strong fighters on Elbaph – people like Jarul, Dorry, Brogy, and maybe even Zoro. I’m expecting a really chaotic battle to break out, and I’m pretty sure Imu will come out on top, really showing off just how powerful they are.
Breaking Down Imu’s Upcoming Battle Against Nika And Nidhoggr
Chapter 1180 of One Piece will probably begin setting the stage for a major fight between Imu and both Loki and Luffy. The chapter will likely spend most of its time showing off Imu’s power before the actual battle starts, but the buildup will be gradual to keep the suspense high. We can expect Imu to defeat several strong warriors from Elbaph first, before Luffy and Loki join the fight. The powers of Nika and Nidhogg will likely appear towards the end, leading to a massive, apocalyptic battle on Elbaph. This fight will mark the beginning of the most crucial part of the story, as the series’ ultimate villain finally takes action. Usually, One Piece fans expect the Straw Hats to win their battles, but this time the tension is incredibly high, and there’s a genuine possibility that the Straw Hats could be defeated.
Nika is powerful, but his ultimate showdown with Imu likely won’t happen until near the end of the One Piece story, not during the events on Elbaph before the major war even starts. This suggests Imu will be the stronger force in their upcoming fight, even with Loki fighting alongside Luffy. As a result, Elbaph is likely to experience significant consequences and possibly severe damage in the chapters to come, which will be exciting for fans to witness.
The Possibility Of A Straw Hat Defeat In The New Chapter
Chapter 1180 of One Piece will likely center around Imu and the abilities of his Devil Fruit. However, it will also probably reveal more about the Straw Hat Pirates and hint at possible challenges that could lead to their downfall. Throughout their journey in the New World, the Straw Hats have consistently overcome powerful foes – including members of the Seven Warlords and even Emperors like Kaido, as well as the Five Elders – either by defeating them or finding ways to outsmart them.
It’s encouraging to see this development, as it suggests the characters’ training will prevent future defeats. However, it does reduce some of the immediate suspense. The story was at a point where it needed a new direction, and chapter 1180 seems to be providing that. By showcasing Imu’s incredible power, the author is setting up a potential defeat for the Straw Hats in the upcoming battle. In fact, a loss here might be essential for their growth, as setbacks have historically been crucial to their development. The Straw Hats became strong enough to be a Yonko crew because of the challenges they faced at Sabaody Archipelago. To overcome Imu, they likely need another significant setback – a defeat dealt by the World Sovereign himself – and this new arc seems like the ideal place for that to happen.

One Piece’s Release Schedule After The Break
After a two-week pause, new chapters of One Piece are starting up again with chapter 1180. Good news for fans: there won’t be another break immediately after this one! Chapter 1181 is scheduled for the following week, but a short break will be necessary soon after that due to Golden Week, a national holiday in Japan. Because of this holiday, which means Weekly Shonen Jump doesn’t publish any new manga, chapter 1182 of One Piece will likely be delayed.
Keep in mind that when chapter 1182 comes out in May, Oda will probably have finished the three chapters he planned before taking another break. This will make the release schedule a bit unpredictable, which could be frustrating since the story is building to a thrilling climax with the final villain now heading to Elbaph to confront Luffy and his crew.
One Piece Chapter 1180 will be available to read on Manga Plus on April 19, 2026, at 11 a.m. EST.
