As a die-hard One Piece fan, I can’t help but marvel at the breathtaking array of characters that populate this captivating world! Each one, in their unique way, has left an indelible impression on the narrative, garnering a passionate fanbase that eagerly awaits their next appearance. The mastermind behind it all, Eiichiro Oda, pours his heart and soul into crafting these intricate characters and weaving their compelling stories. It’s truly a testament to his artistry!

It’s because of these reasons that they are so loved by fans.

All characters featured in the manga are considered official (or ‘canonical’), while those from movies or additional episodes (often called ‘fillers’) are not. Although these non-canonical characters may not be part of the main story, they’ve gained popularity among fans. With this in mind, here are some popular non-canonical characters that fans would like to see incorporated into the One Piece manga as official characters.

Daddy Masterson

Introduced In Episode 50

In the Loguetown Novel, a work featuring Eiichiro Oda’s unique character designs, we find Daddy Masterson. Although his anime interpretation differs from his novel portrayal, Daddy Masterson emerged as an exceptionally appealing non-canonical character in the world of One Piece, demonstrating that he still captivated audiences despite the differences.

The character in question was initially a Marine sniper, but following his defeat by Yasopp, he chose to step down and devote himself to caring for his daughter. Known as Daddy Masterson, this figure exhibited two different personas. In his encounters with pirates and other lawbreakers, he maintained an enigmatic and stern demeanor. However, around his daughter, he transformed into a warm and jovial figure. Daddy Masterson was undeniably captivating, and introducing him as a canon character wouldn’t significantly alter the original narrative.

Jonathan

Introduced In Episode 196

  • Smart Tactician

Jonathan, a Vice Admiral, held command over the G-8 Marine Base. However, despite his high rank, Jonathan exhibited kindness and respect towards lower-ranking marines under him. When it was discovered that the Straw Hats were within the base, he saw this as an opportunity to rally his troops and demonstrate to his superiors the effectiveness of the G-8 Marine Base, aiming to prevent its decommissioning.

As someone deeply immersed in the world of One Piece, let me tell you, it’s a breath of fresh air when you come across characters like Jonathan who truly care for their subordinates. Eiichiro Oda doesn’t necessarily have to make Jonathan a central figure. A simple nod, perhaps by including him in a small panel, would be enough for us fans to appreciate his presence and the impact he has on the storyline.

Zephyr

Introduced In One Piece Film: Z

  • Affiliation: Neo Marines
  • Elite Haki User

As an observer, I can share that in One Piece Film: Z, Zephyr was the main antagonist. Originally, he served as a Marine Admiral, but his allegiance shifted when a pirate, whose actions led to the loss of Zephyr’s family, was inducted into the Shichibukai and granted immunity by the Marines. This very same pirate also severed Zephyr’s left arm. Feeling profoundly betrayed by the Marines, he chose to leave their ranks and established the Neo Marines.

Zephyr’s past is intriguing and he possesses a powerful character trait. Furthermore, his combat style was distinct, adding to his charm as a character. Oda might not be able to feature Zephyr in the current narrative, but he could certainly establish Zephyr as an Admiral through a flashback scene.

Gild Tesoro

Introduced In One Piece Film: Gold

  • Had An Awakened Devil Fruit

In One Piece: Film Gold, the primary antagonist, Gild Tesoro, was unveiled. Among the non-canonical characters, Gild Tesoro’s past is particularly captivating. Originally a slave to the Celestial Dragons, he defied his circumstances and rose to become one of the wealthiest individuals globally. His power and dominance earned him the ominous title, “The Monster of the New World,” a fitting epithet for his character.

Tesoro consumed the Goru Goru no Mi, a Devil Fruit of the Paramecia class, granting him the power to control gold at his whim. His battle with Luffy was entertaining, and Luffy had to dig deep to defeat this formidable adversary. If Tesoro were to become canon, it would further enrich an already stellar roster of villains, making it a point worth considering for Oda.

Stella

Introduced In One Piece Film: Gold

  • Was A Kind Person

In contrast to the other characters on the list, Stella isn’t a lead character in any of the films, but her story is equally captivating. For many years, she was held in a slave shop, until she encountered Gild Tesoro. Despite her disdain for criminals, Tesoro underwent a change and used his earnings from honest work to buy Stella’s freedom instead.

Regrettably, both of them fell into the possession of the Celestial Dragons. However, poor Stella couldn’t bear the hardships for long and passed away in captivity. Just before her demise, she shared with Tesoro her joy about the time they had spent together. If Oda were to bring Tesoro into the official storyline, he would likely include Stella as well, given their interconnected narratives.

Douglas Bullet

Introduced In One Piece: Stampede

  • Affiliation: Roger Pirates
  • Had More Power Than The Supernovas

In One Piece: Stampede, Douglas Bullet was presented as a past crew member of the Roger Pirates. As of now, Eiichiro Oda, the series creator, has only confirmed the canonical members of the Roger Pirates, and Bullet is not among them. However, if Oda were to change his mind in the future, he would have another compelling antagonist at his disposal for the storyline.

Douglas Bullet stands out primarily due to his extraordinary power. His strength was such that even a Buster Call commanded by Sengoku and Garp couldn’t contain him. During his imprisonment in Impel Down, he honed his Haki skills further. Upon escaping, he chose to confront the Worst Generation and other top pirates. In many aspects, Bullet shares a similar spirit with Kaido, potentially causing Oda to contemplate omitting him from the story. Nevertheless, it’s feasible for the author to make Bullet canonical by featuring him in a brief scene or small panel.
