One Piece Characters Who Flopped In Elbaf

The Elbaf arc is projected to be over 40 chapters long – plenty of time for most characters in One Piece to shine. However, with so many characters involved, some might not get enough screen time, potentially making them feel underdeveloped or insignificant.

Some characters received significant screen time but haven’t yet justified their presence in the story. While they still have opportunities to develop in future storylines, they currently feel like underutilized additions to the Elbaf arc, failing to make a lasting impression.

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

5. Usopp

Affiliation: Straw Hat Pirates

  • Haki: Yes
  • Devil Fruit: No

Usopp is the Straw Hat Pirates’ sniper, which suggests he’d be a powerful member of the crew, but he’s actually one of the weaker ones. Along with Chopper and Nami, he forms what’s known as the ‘Weak Trio.’ Since the Dressrosa arc, Usopp hasn’t really improved his abilities, and he’s struggled to defend himself or help his crew. This continued to be a problem during the events of the Elbaf arc.

Throughout this story arc, Usopp hasn’t played a major role and hasn’t been very helpful. It’s fair to say he’s been ineffective. However, it’s important to remember this is intentional. The author, Oda, has repeatedly said he wants Usopp to remain relatively weak, keeping him grounded as a more normal human. Hopefully, Oda will eventually give Usopp a boost in power so he can better compete with the stronger enemies in the final part of the story.

4. Shepherd Sommers

Affiliation: World Government

  • Haki: Yes
  • Devil Fruit: Iba Iba no Mi

Shepherd Sommers is a powerful Holy Knight who first appeared during the Elbaf arc. Shamrock and Gunko called upon him to help them conquer Elbaf and its people. Sommers was selected for his incredibly strong Devil Fruit ability, the Iba Iba no Mi, which allows him to instantly create and control thorny vines to trap his enemies.

Shepherd Sommers was a cruel man who quickly resorted to torture, even capturing members of the Straw Hat crew. However, he was swiftly defeated by Scopper Gaban with just one blow. Despite being quite strong, Sommers ultimately didn’t live up to his potential.

3. Nami

Affiliation: Straw Hat Pirates

  • Haki: No
  • Devil Fruit: No

Nami guides the Straw Hat Pirates, planning and charting the course for their adventures. She’s proven herself to be an incredibly skilled navigator, especially early in their journey. In fact, she’s arguably the best navigator in the entire One Piece world, with an almost supernatural ability to forecast the weather.

Nami didn’t have a significant role in the Elbaf arc, as she wasn’t strong enough to contribute to the fight against the Holy Knights. While her performance so far has been disappointing, there’s still a chance for her to make a bigger impact in future chapters.

2. Eustass Kid

Affiliation: Kid Pirates

  • Haki: Yes
  • Devil Fruit: Jiki Jiki no Mi

Eustass Kid leads the Kid Pirates and is known as one of the ‘Supernovas’ – a group of powerful, rising pirate captains. He quickly gained a reputation for being incredibly ruthless. While other captains like Luffy and Law try to avoid harming innocent people, Kid doesn’t hesitate to put anyone in danger to achieve his goals, which has made him infamous for his lack of concern for others.

Kid had a major role in the Wano Country arc, where he partnered with Trafalgar Law to defeat Big Mom. After that victory, he set sail for Elbaf, hoping to find the mysterious man with the burn scar and move closer to finding the One Piece. Once near Elbaf, Kid discovered that Shanks and his crew were nearby. He immediately prepared a powerful attack against them, but Shanks, using his ability to see into the future, anticipated the attack and quickly defeated Kid, preventing a full-scale battle. As a result, Kid was soundly beaten and lost all the Road Poneglyphs he had collected.

While Kid was beaten in the Egghead arc, the incident did take place near Elbaf.

1. Dorry and Brogy

Affiliation: Elbaf

  • Haki: Yes
  • Devil Fruit: No

It wouldn’t be surprising to argue that Dorry and Brogy were the most valuable players of the Egghead Island arc. They arrived just in time to help the Straw Hats survive the Buster Call and avoid being destroyed by the Five Elders, and their actions even resulted in higher bounties for both of them. Following their strong performance, many fans expected Dorry and Brogy to play a major role in the upcoming events in Elbaf.

Things didn’t turn out as expected, though. While they shared a few brief connections, they never became central figures in the story arc. Eventually, Imu used Domi Reversi to transform them into demons, and they started causing trouble in Elbaf.
