As a longtime fan of One Piece, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing Usopp grow from a cowardly liar into a fearless and resourceful member of the Straw Hat Pirates. Throughout his adventures, he’s faced many formidable enemies that seemed insurmountable at first glance. But with his quick wit and sharp intellect, he always manages to find a way to outsmart them.
The Straw Hat Pirates are an unruly group of pirates with distinct abilities, who have united under their captain’s allure to pursue their personal objectives in the world of One Piece. Throughout their dangerous voyages on the high seas, this band of misfits has clashed with countless adversaries. Consequently, Usopp, also recognized by various aliases during their escapades, has earned notoriety and animosity from those he outsmarted for the sake of his comrades.
Usopp is famous for his sharpshooting and innovation. Throughout his quest to become a brave warrior of the sea, he has the tendency to squeeze out of whatever hairy situation he finds himself in, often thwarting the plans of the enemy on his end. His frequent exploits against other infamous pirates and marines have given him many nicknames and aliases, such as Sogeking and God Usopp.
6 Kuro
The Two-Faced Butler Of Syrup Village
- First Appearance: Episode 9
In the Syrup Village storyline, Kuro played the role of the primary adversary. Previously serving as the captain of the Black Cat pirate crew, he orchestrated his own apparent demise to pursue alternate schemes. Disguised as a butler named Klahadore, Kuro infiltrated the wealthy young woman Kaya’s household with malicious intentions. His goal was to use poison against her and seize not only her life but also her family’s fortune.
In the course of this storyline, Usopp joined forces with Luffy and Zoro to interrupt Kuro’s schemes at Kaya’s mansion. This event revealed Usopp’s hidden capabilities as he wielded his formidable arsenal against Kuro’s freshly assembled team. If not for Usopp’s intervention and bravery in defending Kaya, Kuro would have undoubtedly achieved all of his objectives.
5 Drophy
Mrs Merry Christmas Of Baroque Works
- First Appearance: Episode 103
During the Alabasta storyline, Miss Merry Christmas, another name for Drophy, acted as a villain. She was allied with both Baroque Works and Crocodile, who conspired to weaken Alabasta by using deceitful methods.
During their stay in Alabasta, the Straw Hats encountered the dangerous Baroque Works, who aimed to sabotage the country from within. In the Alabasta storyline, Usopp and Chopper teamed up to take on Droopy and her companion, Mr. 4. Droopy held a Devil Fruit that granted her the ability to transform into a mole, enabling her to dig through the ground swiftly and launch surprise attacks. To counter this, Usopp employed his sharp marksmanship, employing explosive ammunition and creative shots while evading her digging escapes. The confrontation concluded when Usopp successfully deceived Droopy into running into one of Mr. 4’s explosive baseballs, rendering her unconscious and securing their victory.
4 Chew
Arlong’s Fishman Pirate Subordinate
- First Appearance: Episode 31
In the Arlong Park storyline, an unpleasant gang of Fishmen Pirates invaded the isle where Nami had been raised. Among these pirates was a man named Chew, who played a minor villainous role in this part of the narrative. A persistent motif throughout this arc was the contemptuous attitude of the Fishmen towards humans and their mistreatment of the island’s inhabitants.
During the Arlong Park saga, Usopp didn’t initially engage Chew in hand-to-hand combat. Instead, he observed Chew’s powerful Fishman abilities and prudently retreated to devise a strategy. Given his weaker human race and lack of access to water, Usopp was at a disadvantage. To counteract this, he employed various weapons from afar to weaken Chew without engaging in close combat directly. Ultimately, through quick thinking on the spot and effective long-range attacks, Usopp left Chew vulnerable enough for a decisive strike with his trusted hammer.
3 Perona
The Ghost Lolita Of The Moria Pirates
- First Appearance: Episode 338
Perona was a crew member of the Moria pirates that was led by the former Warlord Gecko Moria. She is known as the Ghost Princess and served as a commander for the Moria pirates, where she was an obstacle for the Straw Hats during the arc due to her problematic ghost devil fruit.
When the Straw Hat team was separated among the Gecko pirates, Usopp encountered Perona. Perona had the power to make people sad and less effective with her negative hollows; however, this didn’t affect Usopp due to his inherently pessimistic disposition. Not only was he immune to her strongest attack, but he also used his intelligence to engage in mental duels with her. He exploited her fear of cockroaches by shooting them with his Kabuto slingshot to keep a distance between them.
2 Sugar
The Toymaker Of Dressrosa
- First Appearance: Episode 608
During the Dressrosa storyline, Sugar played a pivotal role. She helped convert both Dressrosa residents and Doflamingo’s enemies into her puppets using her ability to make people forget about her when she’s near.
In Doflamingo’s rule over Dressrosa, sugar played a pivotal role due to her incredibly powerful devil fruit abilities. Her skills provided Doflamingo with reassurance and served as a warning to those opposing him. Usopp engaged Sugar in battle twice during this storyline and emerged victorious on both occasions. In their initial confrontation, Usopp was at risk of being transformed into a toy by Sugar. Overwhelmed by the fear of becoming a toy permanently, Usopp distorted his face in terror, leaving Sugar taken aback, resulting in her fainting. During their second encounter, from a distance, Usopp launched an unusual projectile, utilizing Haki for the first time, which astonished Sugar and led to his triumph.
1 Ulti
The Powerful Older Tobiroppo Sibling
- First Appearance: Episode 923
Usopp often faces off against formidable foes who initially seem too powerful for him to handle. After all, he doesn’t possess a Devil Fruit or Haki like many other notorious characters. However, he managed to overcome one such adversary named Ulti during the Wano arc. Ulti and her brother Page One are two formidable members of the Tobiroppo, an elite group of strong beasts within the Beast Pirates, which Usopp had to confront.
In the pivotal stage of the Wano storyline, Usopp teamed up with Nami to challenge Ulti and her brother in a fierce battle. This encounter highlighted Usopp’s brilliant strategizing and exceptional marksmanship. As the climax of the arc approached, Usopp and Nami joined forces against the formidable Tobiroppo siblings, Ulti and Page One. Due to their significant power difference, the duo opted to steer clear of a head-on battle with the dinosaur siblings. Utilizing his Pop Green projectiles, Usopp engaged them from afar while evading their attacks. In the end, Nami harnessed Zeus’s power to unleash a thunder lance strike, knocking Ulti unconscious and securing the triumph for Team Straw Hat.
