One Piece Characters Who Need Haki After Elbaf

I’ve been following the One Piece manga, and right now the story is centered around the arc in Elbaf – the land of the giants. The Straw Hat crew finally made it there after a really long journey, and it seemed like it would be a good time. But things took a turn when the Holy Knights showed up, completely changing the atmosphere.

These fighters are the absolute best of the World Government’s huge army. Seeing their strength made it obvious that many characters in One Piece need to get much stronger if they hope to survive the final arc of the story. Here’s a look at some people who could really benefit from learning a new form of Haki or getting a power boost after the events at Elbaf.

Nico Robin

Affiliation: Straw Hat Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: Hana Hana no Mi

Nico Robin is the Straw Hat Pirates’ archaeologist and a long-standing member of the crew. Though she’s a capable fighter, she’s faced tough opponents who sometimes gained the upper hand. When that happened, Robin depended on her crewmates for support.

During the Elbaf arc, Robin attempted to confront Shepherd Sommers, but he was simply too powerful for her. While Robin has exceptional mastery of her Devil Fruit abilities, it won’t be enough to overcome the challenges she’ll face as the story of One Piece concludes. She urgently needs to develop Haki, and the author, Oda, should introduce that development soon after the Elbaf arc.

Usopp

Affiliation: Straw Hat Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: None

Usopp serves as the crew’s sniper, but he’s also generally considered the weakest member. The author, Eiichiro Oda, intentionally keeps him less powerful than the others to make him more relatable as a human character. Currently, though, Usopp often hinders the crew in battles due to his lack of strength.

Usopp hasn’t been very effective in battles for a while now. Even during the Wano Country arc, his opponents were stronger than him, and he consistently lost. Usually, his friends step in to save him, but it would be great to see him win a fight using his sniping abilities. He has Observation Haki, but hasn’t used it effectively since the Dressrosa arc. Hopefully, the author will give him Armament Haki or a more advanced form of Observation Haki in the future.

Buggy

Affiliation: Cross Guild, Buggy Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: Bara Bara no Mi

Buggy leads the Buggy Pirates and also heads up the Cross Guild. He unexpectedly became one of the Four Emperors, largely due to a series of fortunate misunderstandings. Because Buggy is mainly portrayed as a humorous character, it makes sense if the author continues to use him for comic relief.

There’s a slight chance the author, Oda, could decide to make Buggy a more formidable character. Since he already possesses a Devil Fruit power, improving his Haki would be enough to significantly increase his strength and reputation.

Crocodile

Affiliation: Cross Guild

  • Devil Fruit: Suna Suna no Mi

Man, Crocodile was such a fantastic villain in the Alabasta saga! He was one of the Warlords of the Sea back then, which meant he basically had free rein to do what he wanted. And he used that freedom to try and take down Cobra, the king! It was a really intense fight, but Luffy somehow managed to defeat him. Honestly, it was mind-blowing to see someone so experienced and powerful, a true Grand Line veteran, get beaten by a rookie pirate who hadn’t even mastered Haki yet! It really showed Luffy’s potential.

I’ve observed that Crocodile has a really dangerous Devil Fruit called the Suna Suna no Mi. It’s a Logia type, meaning he can transform into and control sand – and he can use it to defeat someone incredibly quickly. He also has Haki, though we haven’t seen the full extent of his skill with it. If he’s only using basic Armament and Observation Haki, I think the author should give him access to the more advanced forms – it would fit his power level.

Smoker

Affiliation: Marines, World Government

  • Devil Fruit: Moku Moku no Mi

Smoker is a Marine Vice Admiral who has relentlessly pursued Luffy for years, even tracking him all the way into the Grand Line. He initially seemed like a powerful and intimidating fighter, able to defeat dangerous criminals, but his strength has noticeably diminished over time.

Smoker is very skilled with his Devil Fruit powers, but his Haki isn’t quite as strong as other top fighters. Because he hasn’t been fighting much lately, fans hope he’ll come back even more powerful. When he does return, he really needs to have mastered advanced Armament Haki, or he risks being easily defeated by his opponents.

Sanji

Affiliation: Straw Hat Pirates

  • Devil Fruit: None

Sanji is one of the three strongest fighters in the Straw Hat Pirates. While his main job is cooking for the crew and ensuring they’re well-fed, he’s also become an incredibly powerful warrior capable of handling almost any threat they face.

Sanji hasn’t eaten a Devil Fruit, but he’s skilled in both Armament and Observation Haki. He frequently mixes Haki with his fighting techniques. However, he hasn’t mastered any advanced forms of Haki, and he doesn’t possess Conqueror’s Haki. These limitations currently hold back his potential as a fighter. Many fans hope the author, Oda, will grant Sanji advanced versions of Armament and Observation Haki sometime after the story arc on Elbaf concludes.
