This list contains spoilers up to the Whole Cake Island arc of One Piece
Different from many shonen protagonists, Luffy begins the One Piece series with a considerable strength due to his Devil Fruit ability, which makes his body rubbery and enables powerful attacks. However, as the story progresses, Luffy, being the captain of the Straw Hat crew, has essentially reached god-like power levels. This is evident in how he’s defeated numerous formidable opponents on his journey to become Pirate King. While these battles were not a stroll in the park, it’s worth noting that there were several Marines and pirates who, upon challenging Luffy to a fight, were already at a significant disadvantage from the start.
There are several explanations why these characters might find themselves overwhelmed when facing Luffy in the world of One Piece. It could be due to his superior physical strength and Haki, or perhaps Luffy has an inherent advantage against them. Initially, they may have boasted about their abilities, but it didn’t take long before they realized that taking on Luffy was more than they had bargained for.
Cracker
Attacking Luffy With Any Kind Of Food Is Never A Smart Idea
- Episode: 798
Given that Cracker is one of Big Mom’s trusted commanders within her Sweet Unit, it’s understandable why he chose to confront Luffy promptly upon discovering the Straw Hat pirates had invaded the island. At first, Lucy found it difficult to defeat Cracker’s biscuit soldiers during their initial skirmish. However, as their hard exteriors softened due to the rain, Cracker faced an uphill battle since his adversary has an insatiable hunger.
Luthi first indulged in the biscuits shaped like soldiers before transforming into his Tank Man form, which he unveiled after a hearty meal. However, Cracker might have had a better chance if not up against an opponent who seems to relish eating anything within reach. Given Luffy’s insatiable appetite for sweets, it was already difficult for Cracker to emerge victorious in this battle.
Bellamy
Bellamy Just Doesn’t Have The Strength Or Durability To Match Up To Luffy
- Episode: 151
Initially, upon meeting Luffy on the island of Jaya, Bellamy gleefully mocks Luffy, hoping it will impress his crew. However, due to his Spring Spring fruit, granting him exceptional speed and agility, Bellamy often outsmarts his foes effortlessly. Yet, this tactic failed when confronting Luffy. With just one powerful punch to the head, Luffy knocked Bellamy unconscious in front of his friends. But their encounters were not limited to that single instance.
Following a time gap, Luffy meets Bellamy anew, this time in Dressrosa where Bellamy is working side by side with his childhood idol, Doflamingo. Despite gathering courage to face off against Luffy once more, Bellamy experiences the same embarrassment he did two years earlier, underlining the immense power disparity between the two captains.
Usopp
Usopp Knew He Couldn’t Win Against A Member Of The Monster Trio
- Episode: 236
Upon reaching a breaking point where it seemed imminent that it would shatter completely, the trusty Going Merry Ship, our loyal companion throughout many adventures, appeared on the brink of its final voyage as the Straw Hat crew reluctantly agreed to part ways with it in Water 7. Yet, one crew member refused to accept this decision due to his deep emotional bond with the ship – Usopp. This emotional rejection sparked a heated argument between him and Luffy, eventually escalating into a fiercely contested duel between the two comrades.
Even though Usopp understood that his odds of defeating a member of the Monster Trio were slim, he nevertheless employed his peculiar assortment of gadgets to defend against Luffy’s attacks. However, despite catching Luffy off guard with some moves and techniques, it didn’t take long for Luffy to emerge victorious in their one-on-one encounter. Although Luffy did not wish for it, the fight demonstrated that Usopp was right when he asserted that he and the weaker crew members would struggle to attain the power levels of Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji.
Wapol
Drum Island’s Evil Tyrant Was Utterly Humiliated By Luffy
- Episode: 87
During his journey, Luffy has clashed with some incredibly powerful antagonists, such as Doflamingo and Crocodile, but Wapol, the ex-leader of Drum Island, stands out differently. Even though he manipulated his way into ruling the cold Drum Island, Wapol isn’t revered as a strong leader by his people – quite the contrary. Instead, he is known for being lazy and immature, often attempting to eliminate his enemies by consuming them. His unique Devil Fruit powers allow him to do so.
When Wapol confronts Luffy, he soon realizes that he stands no chance against him. In the end, Luffy humiliates Wapol severely, using his elastic physique to toss him around as if he were a toy. As Wapol attempts to bite Luffy’s head, the protagonist stretches out his hand to prevent Wapol from closing his mouth, followed by hurling him through a roof to ensure he leaves forever. This action frees Drum Island in the process.
Blueno
Blueno Struggled To Even React To Luffy’s Attacks Once He Entered Gear 2
- Episode: 270
As an observer, I might rephrase it this way: Back when Blueno was part of CP-9, he could potentially have held his ground against Luffy in his standard form. However, the moment Luffy triggered Gear 2, the entire dynamic shifted dramatically. In fact, to state that Luffy merely embarrassed Blueno during their battle would be a significant understatement. With vapor billowing from his person and a self-assured grin plastered on his face, Luffy began moving at breakneck speed, making it impossible for Blueno to anticipate his next move or attack.
During the battle, Blueno’s Devil Fruit, capable of creating doors from nowhere, proved to be too sluggish for him to employ effectively due to Luffy’s rapid speed after gaining a power boost. Fortunately, Rob Lucci demonstrated a stronger performance against Luffy later on in Enies Lobby, easily overpowering Blueno upon unveiling his latest ability.
