One Piece: Eiichiro Oda Has Already Revealed Loki’s Devil Fruit Ability

This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

The Elbaf arc in One Piece has been unfolding for over a year, and fans are consistently surprised by the new information revealed with each chapter. A major focus of the story, carefully built by creator Eiichiro Oda since the arc began, centers around the Devil Fruit powers of Loki.

It’s understandable that powerful Devil Fruits are a major focus in One Piece storylines. They’re the source of most abilities in the series and are considered incredibly valuable. Because they play such a crucial role in the overall plot, the author, Oda, naturally gives them special attention, and that’s why Loki’s Devil Fruit power has been a hot topic lately.

For a long time, Eiichiro Oda has only given us small hints about Loki’s abilities. We know Loki is powerful enough to destroy the world, but the specifics of his powers remained a mystery. However, chapter 1171 of One Piece changes that. Oda finally shows us Loki’s Devil Fruit attacks and reveals important details about what his fruit can do, giving fans a much better idea of his full capabilities.

Oda Finally Teased Loki’s Devil Fruit Ability In The Fight Against Harald

  • Loki consumed his fruit 14 years ago
  • Loki holds the power of a Mythical Zoan fruit

I was so hyped when we finally got our first glimpse of Loki’s Devil Fruit power back in Chapter 1170 of One Piece! It happened during that flashback to the battle at Aurust Castle, 14 years ago. We actually saw Loki eat the Devil Fruit from Elbaf after taking down Ragnir, and then immediately start fighting Harald. It was obvious he transformed into something incredible right after eating it, and it’s confirmed – he’s got a Mythical Zoan! This power is seriously strong; he was able to overpower even King Harald, which is a huge deal. It’s going to be amazing to see what this fruit can really do!

Harald demanded that Loki immediately demonstrate the incredible abilities of the mythical Devil Fruit from Elbaf, as seen in One Piece chapter 1170.

To understand how powerful Loki is, remember that King Harald was stronger than the legendary pirate Rocks D. Xebec. For Loki to defeat Harald, he must be as strong as, or even stronger than, the Pirate King himself. What’s even more impressive is that Loki was the first person ever to kill a Holy Knight – something Roger and his entire crew couldn’t do, which even shocked Gaban.

Honestly, seeing Imu so shaken up after Harald’s death really got me thinking – it seems Loki didn’t just take out Harald, but actually hurt Imu too! It was crazy – Imu was so scared of losing anyone else that they refused to send another Holy Knight to Elbaf. Can you believe it? They were clearly worried about weakening their own forces even further. It just shows how much damage Loki inflicted, not just physically, but strategically!

Loki Can Fly Using His Devil Fruit Power

Chapter 1170 of One Piece strongly suggested that Loki possesses a rare Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, enabling him to transform into a creature with powerful claws. This fruit is so strong it could even harm Imu.

Don’t bother with me; I can handle this easily. This monster is a good way to get started. — Loki, from One Piece chapter 1171

Okay, so in One Piece chapter 1171, Oda dropped a pretty big hint about Loki’s Devil Fruit ability. It turns out Loki can fly, and doesn’t even need a ship to get back to Elbaf – the Sun Realm. He was determined to handle the Draugr situation on his own, and Luffy decided to stick with him. It looks like we’re going to see both of them show up in the Sun Realm together in the next few chapters.

Loki’s ability to fly narrows down the possibilities for what kind of Devil Fruit power he might have in the One Piece universe. It’s likely his transformations involve creatures with large wings for flight, as well as powerful claws and immense strength.

Plus, fans are aware that Loki also has the ability to control elements. He can summon lightning with a swing of his hammer, and this power probably comes from the Devil Fruit he consumed, since Ragnir normally wouldn’t be able to create lightning.

In One Piece chapter 1171, fans noticed Loki using a freezing attack called Niflheim to stop the Draugr, but this power probably comes from Ragnir. Considering Loki already controls lightning and ice through his hammer, many fans believe he might actually be a type of giant dragon.

Loki’s Devil Fruit Is Likely The Niddhogg Dragon

  • Loki can fly and has sharp claws
  • He can generate lightning like the Niddhogg

Considering all the details Oda has shared about Loki’s powers, it’s highly likely that Loki is based on the Niddhogg dragon from Norse mythology. Niddhogg was famously chained to the roots of the Yggdrasil tree, mirroring Loki’s imprisonment at the Adam Tree’s roots. Furthermore, Loki’s ability to fly, his sharp claws, and immense size all align with the characteristics of a dragon. Adding to this connection, Loki controls lightning, and Oda specifically referred to Niddhogg as a lightning dragon during the Elbaf arc.

The ice powers can be a little tricky to understand, but since Loki talked to Ragnir before using Niflheim, it’s evident these abilities come from the hammer, not Loki personally.

Although it’s possible Oda is misleading us with the Nidhogg dragon, it’s probably not a fake clue. Many fans thought Fenrir might be involved, but Loki’s statement about being able to fly makes a wolf-based power unlikely. Everything currently suggests Loki is actually the Nidhogg Dragon, which fits with the series’ increasing focus on Western dragons.

Vegapunk attempted to bring Western dragons to life on Punk Hazard, and the World Government prominently features their hooves as a sign of power. This suggests Western dragons are exceptionally formidable in the One Piece universe, making Loki – who possesses the power of the strongest one – uniquely powerful. The upcoming Elbaf Arc promises to reveal the full extent of Loki’s dragon abilities, and fans are eager to see him face off against the world’s ruler as the fight against evil continues.

Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga, One Piece, follows Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they search for the legendary treasure, the One Piece. The story is currently in its final arc. A new chapter, 1171, will be released in this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump. It will be available on January 18, 2026, at midnight Japan Standard Time (11:00 AM Eastern Time, 8:00 AM Pacific Time). Fans can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app, which directly supports the creator.
