One Piece: Every Animal with a Devil Fruit

Summary

  • Animal Devil Fruit users are rare in One Piece.
  • Zoan Devil Fruits for animals have minds of their own.
  • Stronger, Pierre, and Onimaru are notable animal DeVil Fruit users.

As a seasoned One Piece enthusiast who has sailed through countless adventures with Luffy and his Straw Hat Crew, I must say that the animals of this world have shown themselves to be quite extraordinary. From Noko, the sleep-inducing seahorse with an insatiable thirst for memories, to Buzz, the eagle bulldog who can fly higher than a sky-high skypiea, these creatures never cease to amaze us.

In the realm of “One Piece”, it appears that any entity capable of ingesting a Devil Fruit can wield its powers. This usually applies to beings like humans and other intelligent species, but it extends to animals and even inanimate objects as well.

In summary, while it’s not common, there do exist characters in this series who consume Devil Fruits – these are typically Zoan Fruits, which some believe possess their own consciousness. It seems they were intrigued by the possibility of combining their animal forms with another creature’s appearance. These are all the animals featured in the story that have ingested a Devil Fruit and gained its abilities.

6. Tony Tony Choppe

A Human Reindeer

  • Debut: Chapter 134 (Manga); Episode 81 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi

Among all creatures who have consumed the Devil Fruit, Tony Tony Chopper stands out, particularly because he is part of the Straw Hat Pirates. His ingestion of the Hito Hito no Mi granted him human-like intellect. This cognitive ability allowed him to understand that, being a blue-nosed reindeer among red-nosed clans, he was an outsider. He utilized his intelligence by choosing to become a doctor.

Over time, the Chopper character ultimately became part of the Straw Hat Pirates crew, serving as their physician. His exceptional human intellect enables him to converse effortlessly with every member of his team, which sets him apart from many animal crewmates on pirate ships who typically work closely with just one partner. Additionally, he retains the unique talent to understand and translate the speech of animals to humans, and vice versa.

In his role as a Zoan user, Chopper blended his human wisdom with the three distinct shapes he could assume to develop a unique substance called the Rumble Ball. This concoction granted him additional transformations, each highlighting different aspects of himself for diverse fighting styles. For instance, his Guard Point fortified his fur, and his Horn Point boosted his antlers.

So far, his ultimate form is Monster Point, transforming him into a massive, bestial entity. Previously, during this transformation, Chopper lost control and went mad, but now he’s learned to keep a clear mind as it kicks in. With Caesar Clown’s assistance, he extended the duration of this transformation to about 30 minutes, although it causes him to shrink even further once it wears off. In essence, Chopper has maximized his newfound powers effectively.

5. Stronger

A Pegasus Horse

  • Debut: Chapter 223 (Manga); Episode 146 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Uma Uma no Mi, Model: Pegasus

A weaker horse, sporting a pallid blue hue, serves as a companion to Doctor Q, who is part of the Blackbeard Pirates and struggles with his own health issues. Despite his frail state, this horse functions as Dr. Q’s legs, seeing as he can no longer walk independently. This horse has been with the Blackbeard Pirates for a considerable length of time, even longer than several of its highest-ranking members, as Doctor Q was one of Blackbeard’s earliest four crewmates.

After the Summit War, the team has significantly grown, leading to Doc Q being promoted among its elite group of Ten Titanic Captains. The Blackbeard Pirates now focus on capturing Devil Fruit users, slaying them and acquiring their abilities through unknown methods. It’s believed that this is how Stronger obtained his own Devil Fruit, a rare Zoan type that turns him into a pegasus. Since Stronger was already a horse, the transformation primarily gave him the ability to sprout wings. Despite being mainly aesthetic, this newfound power grants Stronger the capability of flight, enabling Doc Q to traverse both land and skies.

4. Pierre

A Horse Bird

  • Debut: Chapter 237 (Manga), Episode 153 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Uma Uma no Mi

Pierre is known as a Sky Dot Bird – a distinctive pink avian covered in spots from head to tail. So far, he’s the sole bird of this kind featured in the series. Owned by Gan Fall, the ruler of Skypiea who regained his title following Enel’s ousting, Pierre is incredibly devoted to his master. In battles, he serves as a mount for Gan Fall. Furthermore, if anyone speaks ill of his owner, Pierre won’t hesitate to retaliate.

Pierre’s special fruit grants him the ability to change into a horse. However, he frequently employs a mix form that resembles a mythical creature called Pegasus. The problem is, before acquiring this power, Pierre was large enough for Gan Fall to ride as a bird. This makes his Devil Fruit abilities seem unnecessary or redundant within the series.

3. Onimaru

A Yokai Fox

  • Debut: Chapter 936 (Manga), Episode 932 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Onyudo

Originally, Onimaru was a Komagitsune – a fire-like fox native to Wano – who used to be a pet belonging to Shimotsuki Ushimaru, the daimyo of Ringo, until his passing. Afterwards, Onimaru has been working alongside Kawamatsu, once a retainer under Kozuki Oden, in the quest to amass weapons for the impending showdown against Kaido.

By resorting to theft from those who cross his path, Onimaru partly achieves this through the powers bestowed upon him by his Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit. This unique fruit grants Onimaru the ability to transform into a colossal monk yokai named Onyudo, also recognized as Gyukimaru. In this form, he demonstrates increased intelligence and even speaks like a human. Despite being weaker than Roronoa Zoro in terms of raw strength, Gyukimaru showcases remarkable speed and dexterity, swiftly snatching weapons such as Zoro’s Shusui and making a quick escape with them. Among the animal-based Devil Fruit users, Onimaru appears to be one of the most powerful.

2. Noko

A Sleep-Inducing Seahorse

  • Debut:One Piece: Ocean’s Dream! (Video Game)
  • Devil Fruit: Nemu Nemu no Mi

This character is non-canon.

Noko, a seahorse character from different stories, yearns to transform into a Senneryu, the Thousand-Year Dragon. He believes he can achieve this by taking others’ memories. However, only the version of Noko in “One Piece: Ocean’s Dream!” is known to have consumed a Devil Fruit. Interestingly, despite being a seahorse and living underwater most of the time, Noko cannot swim due to a common trait of Devil Fruits, but can somehow float on land instead.

Noko’s special fruit gives him the power to steal memories from others when they are asleep. However, these memories can quickly leak out and go back to their rightful owners after just one hit. Not much is known about Noko or his background. He appears to be a regular seahorse with a higher level of intelligence and the ability to talk to others. Interestingly, among all animal users of Devil Fruits, Noko is unique because he didn’t consume a Zoan fruit. His powers appear to fall under the Paramecia category.

1. Buzz

An Eagle Bulldog

  • Debut: One Piece 3D: Straw Hat Chase (Movie)
  • Devil Fruit: Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Eagle

This character is non-canon .

Buzz, a long-time friend and pirate companion of Schneider, is primarily known as the only member of the Schneider Pirates crew. He has shown the ability to engage in brief fights with Luffy, and despite being old, possesses an unexpected level of strength for a bulldog. Uniquely among Schneider’s crewmates, Buzz declined to abandon him when the pirate crew disbanded years ago.

Buzz’s special fruit grants him the unique ability to turn into a hybrid of a dog and an eagle, enabling flight. In a situation where Schneider dared him to retrieve Luffy’s straw hat, as he believed the blood coughing signified impending death, Buzz employed his transformative powers to seize the hat effortlessly. This task served as a diversion, intending to keep Buzz preoccupied so he wouldn’t witness his owner’s demise.

This situation triggered a pursuit involving Luffy and Buzz, ending with them engaging in combat. Thankfully, it turned out that Schneder’s illness, which he attributed to aging, was actually due to him accidentally consuming a fork while eating spaghetti, which had pierced his stomach. With Chopper’s medical intervention, Schneider made a full recovery.
