As a historian and avid follower of One Piece, I must say that the Kozuki family is one of the most intriguing clans in the series. Their rich history and ties with the Mink Tribe, Shimotsuki Family, and the creation of poneglyphs make them a fascinating group to delve into.

In the realm of One Piece, the Kozuki family currently holds power over Wano Country. Their emblem features a bird adorned with an orb on its chest, surrounded by four sprouts, symbolizing their rule. They have recently reclaimed their position following a lengthy partnership between the Kurozumi Family and the Beasts Pirates that had previously displaced them.

As an avid fan, I can’t help but share my excitement over the Kozuki clan’s daring move to sever their alliance! This bold step was achieved through a mix of their hidden domestic allies and external forces, including diverse pirate crews and the Zou Mink Tribe. While five family members are well-documented, there are hints of other kin who make brief appearances in the storyline.

6. Kozuki Oden

As an onlooker, I can’t help but admire Kozuki Oden, a swashbuckling swordsman who once held the title of daimyo of Kuri. Born into the mighty Kozuki clan and destined to become Shogun, he defied traditions that often constrain many. His magnetic charm drew a substantial following within Wano. Among his most devoted followers, those who remained steadfastly loyal, there was a shared ambition: to stand by him, aspiring to be retainers worthy of future leadership.

Despite maturing into a strong and compassionate leader, Oden could not be confined within the boundaries of Wano. He embarked on a journey with the Whitebeard Pirates, eventually earning the position of division commander. Following a prolonged conflict and truce between the Whitebeard Pirates and the Roger Pirates, Oden chose to switch allegiances and join the Roger Pirates’ crew, causing disappointment for Whitebeard. Oden was among the crew of the Roger Pirates during their discovery of Laugh Tale, the location of the One Piece, and presumably unveiling the secrets of the world.

Upon his return to Wano, Oden found that Kurozumi Orochi had been appointed shogun with Kaido’s assistance. When Orochi ordered Oden’s execution, Oden died smiling, maintaining his legendary status among those aware of his deeds. For the subsequent twenty years, Oden was often maligned due to Orochi’s propaganda that tarnished his heroism and fighting skills. However, it was his memory that sparked the rebellion to overthrow the Kurozumi Shogunate. Later, Oden’s son, Momonosuke, took the position of shogun and worked diligently to counteract the negative portrayal of their family.

5. Kozuki Toki

The Time-Traveling Wife

Kozuki (née Amatsuki) Toki originated from a time in the Void Century, traveling to Oden’s era with her Devil Fruit ability. Oden met Toki during a hazing ritual of Whitebeard’s. She was accosted by human traffickers, who were frightened by Oden, whose body was swollen at the time. Oden broke the challenge to aid Toki, and Whitebeard accepted the pair into the crew. Toki also spent time with the Roger Pirates before falling ill, resulting in her returning to Wano with their children and Oden’s two remaining retainers.

While Orochi pursued the Kozuki Family and their allies, Toki took steps to transport her son, Momonosuke, into the future, a power granted by her Devil Fruit. She then shared a prophecy, predicting that the Kozuki Family would rebel against Orochi’s rule in the future. Unfortunately, she was killed before her words could be fully appreciated. However, Orochi wisely understood that the day of his downfall was imminent.

4. Kozuki Momonosuke

Shogun of Wano

Kin’emon, Kanjuro, Raizo, and Kikunojo. Together, they concocted a strategy to reclaim Wano, which involved enlisting the help of Zou’s mink tribe as part of their plan.

Regrettably, during their journey to Zou, a chain of incidents resulted in Momonosuke’s transfer to Punk Hazard instead. There, he consumed a SMILE, a counterfeit Zoan Devil Fruit much like Kaido’s. This fruit granted him the ability to transform into the Azure Dragon, though his color pattern differed. Eventually, Kin’emon managed to save Momonosuke and joined forces with the Straw Hat Pirates and Trafalgar D. Water Law. During their joint voyage, Momonosuke developed a unique connection with Monkey D. Luffy.

In simple terms, Momonosuke’s supporters aimed to make him the shogun once they managed to dethrone Orochi. Sadly, Kanjuro, who was actually a member of the Kurozumi clan, abducted Momonosuke. Kanjuro threatened that Momonosuke would be safe if he denied being Oden’s son, but instead, Momonosuke bravely declared his true identity. Eventually, he was saved from captivity.

Later on, Momonosuke assumed a more proactive stance in safeguarding Wano, by persuading Shinobu to accelerate his growth into adulthood using her Devil Fruit powers. Granted this request, he was aged up to 28 years old, reflecting the age he would have reached if he hadn’t time-traveled to the current era. This development enabled his dragon form to expand significantly and emerge as a tactical asset in combat. Following Luffy’s victory over Kaido, Momonosuke was appointed as the shogun of Wano. Despite retaining the mindset of an eight-year-old, he benefits from the backing of numerous allies who had previously allied with his father.

3. Kozuki Hiyori

Oden’s Daughter

Hiyori is the daughter and youngest child of Oden and Toki, unlike her brother who didn’t age normally, she lived and grew up like any ordinary person. Similar to her brother, she was guarded by Oden’s faithful followers. Kawamatsu, a fish-man who resembled a kappa, initially took care of Hiyori. Kawamatsu worked tirelessly to provide for Hiyori, but this act of nourishment weighed heavily on him as he often went hungry while she ate.

She was brought to Kyoshiro, a yakuza boss under Orochi. Kyoshiro was secretly another retainer of Oden’s named Denjiro, and kept Hiyori safe under the shogun’s nose. Hiyori was groomed to become an oiran, a refined courtesan distinguished by artistic skills. Under her alias, Komurasaki, Hiyori gained the admiration of her fellow performers and citizens alike.

She later came into conflict with Orochi, who disrespected her friend Toko, and eventually attacked her. Denjiro staged Hiyori’s “death” to keep the pair safe. They later came into contact with Zoro, who Hiyori gave Enma, a great grade blade her father wielded, in exchange for Zoro’s own Shusui. Hiyori and Denjiro were responsible for getting rid of Orochi, who learned of Hiyori’s true identity before his death. Hiyori’s role in the new Wano is unclear, but she was seen playing the shamisen, accompanied by Toko, during a schoolteacher’s lecture about the Battle of Onigashima.

2. Kozuki Sukiyaki

In a previous life, I, a spectator, knew Kozuki Sukiyaki – the exiled daimyo of Wano and father to Oden. Initially, he was one of many voices questioning Oden’s choices, even going so far as to banish him from the Flower Capital. However, upon witnessing his son bring law and order to Kuri, a chaotic region, Sukiyaki began to appreciate Oden more deeply.

In his role, he functioned as both a mentor and a stand-in father figure to an apprentice ninja named Tama, apparently oblivious to her ties with the Kurozumi clan. Sukiyaki was a respected swordsmith, known for crafting valuable swords, often referred to as ‘famous blades’. He demonstrates extensive knowledge about these blades and delves deeply into their details with Roronoa Zoro. Moreover, he is proficient in reading and writing poneglyphs, the language they inscribe.

Following the fall of Orochi and Kaido, Sukiyaki disclosed his real self to Oden’s followers and offspring, vowing them to keep it confidential. While many had long suspected who he truly was, the Kozuki kids rejoiced at learning that one of their kin was still among the living.

Oden’s Ancestors

At the close of the Void Century, it was the Kozuki Family who are renowned for crafting the poneglyphs and their associated language. The last known individual with this skill was Oden, a member of the family. The Kozuki Family also maintained historical connections with the Mink Tribe on Zou. This relationship resulted in Inuarashi and Nekomamushi traveling to Wano as kids, where they ultimately served as retainers for Kozuki Oden.

Besides the Amatsuki lineage, other ancestral branches of the Kozuki family also have historical ties. One such figure is Kotetsu, who forged Sukiyaki’s cursed sword, Nidai Kitetsu. The family was traditionally allied with the Shimotsuki Family. Some of their contemporary relatives, including Yasuie, Toko (who is adopted by Yasuie), and Roronoa Zoro (whose grandmother hails from the Shimotsuki lineage), currently assist them in their endeavor to reclaim power for the Kozuki family.
