One Piece: Every Officer Agent of Baroque Works, Ranked

Summary

  • Baroque Works, led by Crocodile, had nine officer agents with unique abilities and partners.
  • Members like Miss Valentine and Mr. 5 had Devil Fruit powers used in combat.
  • Miss Doublefinger and Mr. 1 were high-ranking agents who retired to pursue their true dreams.

As I delve deeper into the world of One Piece, I find myself increasingly captivated by the intricate web of characters that populate this grand pirate adventure. Each character, from the main Straw Hats to the secondary cast, brings something unique and fascinating to the table. Among these, the Baroque Works agents stand out as a group of formidable foes turned allies, each with their own distinct abilities and personalities.

In the popular series “One Piece,” there once existed a criminal syndicate known as Baroque Works, which has now disbanded. This organization was initially established by a character named Crocodile with the aim of seizing control over Alabasta. Interestingly, each member adopted an alias that represented their power level and potential role in a subjugated Alabasta, with the numbers assigned by Crocodile, who himself was known as Mr. 0. Apart from Crocodile and his assistant, Miss All Sunday, the most powerful members of Baroque Works were its nine officer agents.

In this setup, agents were teamed up based on gender, where each male agent had a female counterpart who balanced out their individual skills. Here’s a list of the nine ex-agents of Baroque Works, arranged from least to most powerful:

1. Miss Goldenweek

A Perfunctory Painter

  • Debut: Chapter 117 (Manga); Episode 70 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: None

Marianne, more commonly recognized as Miss Goldenweek, was once a teenage associate of Mr. 3. This realist artist aspires to be a true artisan someday. She appears indifferent towards her adversaries and usually opts for leisure instead of engaging in combat herself. However, it’s later revealed that she deeply values her comrades and their welfare. Interestingly, she is the unique agent among them who does not utilize a Devil Fruit.

She possesses an exceptional talent to mesmerize individuals through her paintings, a method referred to as Color Captivation. This technique overpowers any other responses the subject may have. Each color used in the painting triggers a specific reaction, for instance, green incites tranquility and yellow provokes laughter. Characters with less intelligence, such as Monkey D. Luffy, are particularly susceptible to the Color Captivation. Eventually, Usopp managed to free Luffy from its grip by focusing on the painted section.

During their encounter, Goldenweek’s method temporarily slowed down Luffy, but she didn’t demonstrate any other fighting skills and appeared to struggle when opponents were unrestrained. Consistent with this, she has stepped away from combat, like many other Officer Agents, since then.

2. Miss Valentine

Crushing the Competition

  • Debut: Chapter 110 (Manga); Episode 65 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Kiro Kiro no Mi

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but be captivated by Mikita, affectionately known as Miss Valentine, who partners up with none other than Mr. 5. This electrifying character embodies a unique blend of excitement and sadism, often seen chuckling mischievously when inflicting pain on others, yet prone to swift fury when things don’t go her way.

In a lighter state, she possesses the ability to drift on a gentle wind current and keep track of the atmosphere around her. She can also swiftly ascend using rapid bursts of energy, like those produced by Mr. 5, as she sheds weight. Conversely, when she gains weight, she becomes powerful enough to immobilize or overpower opponents. This strength is utilized in moves such as the Crescendo Stone, which she once employed not only to restrain Usopp but also inflict pain through repeated applications of weight. By shifting between these two weights, she can swiftly descend and bury or potentially decapitate her adversaries.

Despite having superior combat abilities due to her Devil Fruit powers, she was swiftly defeated when Vivi and Nami attacked her from different sides. This assault appeared to render her unconscious on impact.

3. Mr. 5

An Explosive Combatant

  • Debut: Chapter 110 (Manga); Episode 65 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Bomu Bomu no Mi

As a dedicated fan, let me share my take on one of my favorite characters, Gem, or as some may know him, Mr. 5. Unlike his high-ranking counterparts, he’s the lowest-numbered officer agent in the series. Partnered with Miss Valentine, he’s often portrayed as a somewhat condescending young man. His unique trait is the Devil Fruit he possesses, which not only triggers explosions but also grants him an unusual resistance to them. This power seems to fuel his arrogance, considering its effectiveness.

Before battling Luffy and Zoro on Whiskey Peak, he boasted about always completing missions successfully. He typically finishes off most opponents swiftly using his explosives. Enemies as powerful as Dorry and Broggy, who are physically stronger than him, can still be defeated by the force of his explosions. Remarkably, this character can detonate any part of his body, even his snot, to create explosive projectiles. This tactic, which he uses to attack, left Zoro feeling disgusted when he sliced it during their fight.

Despite possessing the ability to hold his own in a physical confrontation, it’s clear that Mr. 5 lacks significant fighting prowess when he’s not utilizing his Devil Fruit powers. This is evident from the fact that he was effortlessly overpowered by an enraged Luffy and Zoro.

4. Mr. 4

Strong But Slow

  • Debut: Chapter 160 (Manga); Episode 103 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: None (Owns bazooka with Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Dachshund)

Buddy or Mr. Four stands tall at an impressive 7 feet 2 inches, boasting significant strength as well. In terms of character, he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed but is generally pleasant. His partner is Miss Merry Christmas, and like Goldenweek, he doesn’t consume a Devil Fruit. However, he does possess Lasso, a bazooka that developed sentience after ingesting a Zoan Devil Fruit, granting it characteristics similar to a dachshund.

In combat, Mr. 4 brandishes a massive four-ton club, using it to smash the enormous baseballs filled with explosives (equivalent in weight to cannonballs) that Lasso launches. He leverages the burrows excavated by Miss Merry Christmas to enhance his unpredictability, swiftly and precisely returning Lasso’s projectiles through a sequence of tunnels, momentarily overlooking his usual sluggishness.

Regarding Mr. 4, his immense physical power is overshadowed by his limited intellect. On the other hand, Mr. 3, a strategist par excellence, is weaker than Mr. 4 as confirmed by Crocodile, which significantly impacts his position. Moreover, he struggles due to overdependence on Miss Merry Christmas and Lassoo for peak performance.

5. Miss Merry Christmas

She Can Dig It

  • Debut: Chapter 160 (Manga); Episode 103 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Mogu Mogu no Mi

In simpler terms, Drophy, also known affectionately as Miss Merry Christmas, is an outspoken and bossy middle-aged woman who often gives orders to Mr. 4. She’s the mastermind behind their team, and her unique ability comes from eating a Devil Fruit that lets her transform into a mole. This makes her one of only two Zoan Devil Fruit users in Baroque Works, with the other being Mr. 4’s gun. Her nickname, “Town-Collapser,” suggests she has caused extensive destruction while in mole form.

Her unique skin growth offers various useful functions. It allows her to construct an intricate system of subterranean passages that she can swiftly navigate. These tunnels serve as a tactical advantage, enabling her to surprise enemies undetected. Moreover, her sharp talons not only function for stealthy maneuvers but also pack a formidable punch against adversaries, capable of carving through solid rock.

Agent Merry Christmas possesses a good blend of combat skills and versatile utilization of her Devil Fruit abilities. Yet, despite her competence, she holds a lower rank among the agent officers due to the existence of superior individuals in this role.

6. Mr. 3

A Sophisticated Sculptor

  • Debut: Chapter 117 (Manga); Episode 70 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Doru Doru no Mi

As Galdino, once known as Mr. 3, I’ve learned the art of strategy over time, often choosing to sidestep direct conflicts when possible. My approach is coldly pragmatic, focusing on what serves me best in the moment, disregarding others unless they can aid me. However, I do appreciate those who fight alongside me for their abilities, even if I don’t always show it or think them worthy of my respect. With a Devil Fruit in hand, I can mold wax into diverse forms, using its versatility to my advantage.

His wax is incredibly versatile, comparable to a Swiss Army Knife, as it has a wide range of applications among all officer agents’ Devil Fruit powers. He can mold it into numerous shapes and objects, making them durable enough to handle any task at hand. Similar to Miss Goldenweek, his ability showcases his artistic prowess, and he often refers to his creations as pieces of art. For instance, his wax locks, a safe house, false replicas of himself, a skeleton key, armor, shield, and an incapacitating device called the candle set are just some examples of what he can create from wax. The candle set, when used, covers victims in wax and eventually leads to their demise (although on-screen demonstrations have not always been successful). When working with Miss Goldenweek, he can also utilize her realistic painting skills to bring color to any sculpture he creates.

Galdino benefited from his breakout from Impel Down, as it highlighted the diverse nature of his Devil Fruit powers without his partner being there. It’s not a surprise that he’s one of the few Baroque Works agents still operational now. Currently, he serves under Crocodile again in the Cross Guild.

7. Mr. 2 Bon Clay

Inmate Running the Asylum

  • Debut: Chapter 129 (Manga); Episode 78 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Mane Mane no Mi

Known by the alias Mr. 2 Bon Clay, Bentham is a character in the series who is both a skilled martial artist and a cross-dresser. Uniquely among the numbered officer agents, he doesn’t have a partner because he embodies both male and female roles. He is one of the most devoted characters, striving to uphold what’s right for his former partners in Baroque Works and his erstwhile enemies, the Straw Hat Pirates. Notably, he saved Luffy on several occasions, and even the self-centered Mr. 3 was moved by his actions, expressing genuine sorrow when he believed Bon Clay had perished.

Mr. 2 Bon Clay’s Devil Fruit grants him the ability to morph into anyone whose face he has touched. He employs this skill to deceive others by transforming into their loved ones, only to catch them off guard with a surprise attack. Additionally, he wields steel-tipped swans as weapons. However, his techniques often fail due to most people’s bodies lacking the necessary elasticity for successful transformation. Despite this limitation, he can manipulate and act against the desires of powerful individuals like Nefertari Cobra, the ex-king of Alabasta, and Magellan, the former Warden of Impel Down, by impersonating them.

In essence, Mr. 2 Bon Clay is not only an accomplished fighter but also a master of disguise; this dual talent earns him high regard from Crocodile, who considers him one of his most valuable resources. After opening Impel Down’s gates for his allies to flee and surviving a battle with Magellan, Bentham has ascended to the position of ruler in Newkama Land (Level 5.5), filling the void left by Ivankov upon his departure.

8. Miss Doublefinger

Sharp To The Touch

  • Debut: Chapter 155 (Manga); Episode 103 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Toge Toge no Mi

Zala, formerly called Miss Doublefinger, holds the top female rank among Baroque Works’ agents and manages Spiders Cafe under the pseudonym Paula. In partnership with Mr. 1, they both share a tranquil demeanor. Possessing a Devil Fruit, she can grow spikes from various parts of her body.

Her spikes serve as both a formidable offense and defense mechanism. When she collides with opponents, they get impaled. This versatile fighter has the ability to initiate or evade attacks; in either case, her adversaries will feel the sting of her spikes. Moreover, she can intentionally injure herself by using her spikes to boost her physical strength, making her even more daunting to confront up close. At short range, it appears nearly impossible to overcome her due to her spiky armor’s comprehensive protection.

Miss Doublefinger is exceptionally skilled as an officer agent because she rarely engages in direct confrontations. Interestingly, she has chosen to retire and pursue her true passion: operating Spider’s Cafe. Now, a new location of the cafe is open, with Zala and other officer agents (excluding Mr. 1, Mr. 2 Bon Clay, and Mr. 3) working there. Each one is pursuing their dreams in their distinct ways within this shared space.

9. Mr. 1

A Blade Man, Not A Swordsman

  • Debut: Chapter 160 (Manga); Episode 103 (Anime)
  • Devil Fruit: Supa Supa no Mi

Daz Bonez, previously recognized as Mr. 1, serves as the top male agent within Baroque Works. Known for his stern demeanor yet generally calm combat style, similar to his past partner Miss Doublefinger, he is Crocodile’s most faithful subordinate – being the only one who persistently stayed by his side following their initial defeat. He now functions as a key assistant to the enigmatic pirate, often acting on his behalf. His unique Devil Fruit grants him the ability to metamorphose his body into razor-sharp steel blades.

In addition to his abilities from the Devil Fruit he possesses, Mr. 1 demonstrates impressive martial arts skills that make him exceptionally accurate with his swords. He’s even capable of spinning these swords around his body, creating a destructive force upon impact. During their encounter in Alabasta, he held his own against Zoro, although the former eventually emerged victorious. Interestingly, Mr. 1 does not view himself as a swordsman, which is understandable when you consider that his blades are essentially an extension of his Devil Fruit’s power.

Following closely in the footsteps of Crocodile, he took part in the Summit War and shared adventures through the New World with him. Later, he became a member of Cross Corps, a formidable mercenary group established by Crocodile, whose purpose was to place bounties on Marines.
