One Piece: Every Zoan Devil Fruit With Multiple Models

Summary

  • Zoan Devil Fruits allow users to transform into animals & hybrid forms with unique abilities.
  • Many Zoan Devil Fruits have variants classified as “models” based on specific animal species.
  • Varieties of Zoan Devil Fruits include Horse, Cat, Bug, & Snake models, each with different abilities.

As a seasoned pirate with years of adventures under my belt, I must say that the world of One Piece is as vast and mysterious as the seven seas themselves. Each Devil Fruit model unveils a new layer of intrigue, leaving us sailors guessing and speculating about what lies beyond the horizon.

In the world of One Piece, Zoan Devil Fruits are one of the two most common types. These special fruits grant their consumer the ability to transform into various animals, or even create a hybrid form that blends the user’s own traits with those of the animal. A characteristic unique to Zoan Devil Fruits is the categorization of some as distinct “models.

This occurs because various species of the same type of creature live. To avoid repetition, some Zoans resembling a particular animal form are sometimes distinguished as templates. Here are the main categories of Zoan Devil Fruit that have so far been identified to possess “template” variants.

12. Ushi Ushi no Mi

Ox Fruits

  • Models and their users: Model: Bison (Dalton), Model: Giraffe (Kaku)

Two types of Ushi Ushi no Mi have been observed so far, neither of which is related to an Ox. Dalton’s variant, the one that enables him to transform into a bison, was the first Zoan fruit and also the initial Devil Fruit with this unique characteristic. Complementing his own physical power, Dalton can leverage the strength of a bison in his battle skills as well.

In a somewhat unusual yet effective manner, Kaku, who already towered with a lean frame, transforms himself into a giraffe-like figure. This transformation resembles a cluster of bananas, complete with the ability to peel, and he can propel his head using his extended neck in this new form. Lately, he has activated the Devil Fruit, enhancing his strength significantly.

It appears that grouping these ‘Devil Fruits’ together stems from the shared characteristic that they belong to the class of hooved mammals, similar to an Ox. While there’s a suggestion that one of these fruits could transform its user into an Ox-like creature, no such fruit has been explicitly shown yet.

11. Hito Hito no Mi

Human Fruits

  • Models and their users: Base (Chopper), Daibutsu (Sengoku), Onyudo (Onimaru), Nika (Luffy)

So far, the Hito Hito no Mi has been observed in four distinct forms, with the basic version enabling its consumer to transform into a human. This might seem like an unremarkable Devil Fruit for beings that are already human or possess similar intelligence and usefulness. However, when bestowed upon an animal, it opens up abilities beyond imagination. This was true for Tony Tony Chopper, who utilized his newfound intellect in numerous creative ways, notably excelling as a skilled doctor.

Apart from its standard version, all known versions of the Hito Hito no Mi are classified as Mythical Zoans. These special fruits grant their consumers the power to transform into mythical creatures and acquire their abilities. For instance, Onimaru, a fox, can use his Devil Fruit to take on a human form, gain intelligence, and speak, much like Chopper. Interestingly, Monkey D. Luffy, who was believed to have eaten a Paramecia, has been discovered to have consumed another variant of the Hito Hito no Mi instead. This unique fruit enables him to transform into the Sun God, Nika. Initially, this Devil Fruit was categorized as a Paramecia to lessen its impact.

Since most Hito Hito no Mi are Mythical Zoans, there’s some talk about Chopper potentially having hidden abilities that would become active when it undergoes awakening. But for now, these ideas are just speculation.

10. Tori Tori no Mi

Bird Fruit

  • Models and their users: Falcon (Pell), Phoenix (Marco), Albatross (Morgans), Eagle (Buzz; non-canon), Nue (Toratsugu; non-canon)

The Tori Tori no Mi is a collection of Devil Fruits that enable their users to transform into different types of birds. Unlike other Devil Fruits, there’s no standard form for the Tori Tori no Mi, likely because of the vast array of bird species in existence, all of which share the common trait of being classified as birds. Generally, these Devil Fruits bestow upon their users the ability to fly.

remarkably enough, “Morgans” – endowed with the prowess of an albatross – paradoxically can’t take to the skies. In stark contrast, Marco possesses powers far surpassing mere flight, as he embodies the fiery and revitalizing qualities of the legendary phoenix, a creature that belongs in the avian family. Interestingly, in a non-traditional mythical twist, “Toratsugu’s Devil Fruit” from the “One Piece Art NUE” series grants the ability to metamorphose into the yokai, Nue. Despite not bearing any physical resemblance to birds, this yokai is still capable of flight.

9. Inu Inu no Mi

Dog Fruits

  • Models and their users: Dachshund (Lassoo), Jackal (Chaka), Wolf (Jabra), Tanuki (Bunbuku), Kyubi no Kitsune (Devon), Okuchi no Makami (Yamato), Hound (Hound; Currently Unseen), Bake-danuki (Pato; non-canon)

The Inu Inu no Mi is a set of Devil Fruits that grant the ability to transform into dogs. Unlike most users, however, the first one wasn’t a person but a sentient bazooka named Lassoo, who assisted its owner, Mr. 4, in battles, behaving much like a loyal dog. Most human users of this fruit, though, prefer to emulate canine traits to enhance their own abilities.

These beings, whether actual or mythological, are often a unique version of Zoan, and while they may not fit the conventional definition of dogs, they all exhibit distinctly canine characteristics.

8. Uma Uma no Mi

Horse Fruits

  • Models and their users: Base (Pierre), Pegasus (Stronger)

The Uma Uma no Mi grants its wielder the ability to metamorphose into a horse. Interestingly, this and another model of the Devil Fruit have been consumed by animals. This might be because horses are traditionally viewed as steeds, making horse forms beneficial for their owners to ride during battles. However, they share more than just this unique trait. Given their current users, these two Devil Fruits exhibit some level of redundancy.

Pierre’s Devil Fruit gives him the ability to transform into a horse, which seems peculiar since he’s large enough to be ridden in his regular form. Interestingly, Stronger’s Devil Fruit doesn’t appear to significantly alter him as he is already a horse, making him unique because he consumed a fruit representing a species he was born as. Despite this, it does provide him with the ability to fly. Lastly, both Devil Fruits cause their users to resemble pegasi; Pierre due to his original bird form having wings, and Stronger because his transformed state is that of a pegasus.

7. Neko Neko no Mi

Cat Fruits

  • Models and their users: Jaguar (Lucci), Saber Tiger (Who’s-Who)

In simpler terms, the Neko Neko no Mi is a collection of Devil Fruits that grants the ability to transform into cats. Rob Lucci’s jaguar form stands out as one of the most fearsome combinations of Zoan Fruit and user, enhancing the already formidable assassin’s capabilities. Similar to Kaku, he has activated his Devil Fruit, increasing its power a bit.

Another type of this Devil Fruit, known as an Ancient Zoan, is possessed by Who’s-Who, who once belonged to Cipher Pol 9, similar to Rob Lucci. From the storyline perspective, it seems this Devil Fruit was given to him to emphasize his past connection with the organization, since some of its members had Zoan Devil Fruits. Whether there exists a variant of this Devil Fruit that enables transformation into an ordinary house cat is still uncertain.

6. Zou Zou no Mi

Elephant Fruits

  • Models and their users: Base (Funkfreed), Mammoth (Jack)

The Zou Zou no Mi, or Elephant Devil Fruit, grants its wielder the ability to transform into an elephant. While this power could be incredibly destructive, Funkfreed – a sentient sword who was given this fruit by the ruthless and inept Spandam – has shown a poor use of it. Funkfreed’s actions, though appearing as self-defense, are often weak and cowardly, much like its owner.

The Character: Mammoth is a type of Ancient Zoan that Jack, one of Kaido’s key allies, uses. It seems that this power was strong enough for Jack to give up his swimming abilities, which is remarkable considering he is a Fish-Man and his skills are usually at their best in water.

5. Ryu Ryu no Mi

Dragon Fruits (But Not That Kind)

  • Models and their users: Allosaurus (Drake), Spinosaurus (Page One), Pteranodon (King), Brachiosaurus (Queen), Pachycephalosaurus (Ulti), Triceratops (Sasaki)

As an ardent fan, I’d like to clarify a fascinating aspect of the Ryu Ryu no Mi – it doesn’t metamorphose its wielders into dragons as one might initially think. Instead, this title is reserved for a particular category within the Ancient Zoans, enabling its users to transform into dinosaurs! Notably, those who possess this variant of the Devil Fruit have, or once were, associated with the Beasts Pirates – a crew renowned for their preference towards members boasting exceptionally potent Zoan Devil Fruits.

In the fictional world of One Piece, there’s some creative freedom regarding the specific powers these Devil Fruits possess, possibly because the creatures they represent are all believed to be extinct. For instance, a brachiosaurus-inspired fruit might allow its user to hurl their head and coil their neck around enemies like a snake. While it may seem unrealistic according to our understanding, within the context of the One Piece universe, such abilities could very well be plausible.

4. Hebi Hebi no Mi

Snake Fruits

  • Models and their users: King Cobra (Marigold), Anaconda (Sandersonia), Yamata no Orochi (Orochi)

Initially, the twin models of the Hebi Hebi no Mi appeared together, and they were bestowed upon Boa Hancock’s sisters by the same occasion. True to their name, these Devil Fruits enabled their wielders to metamorphose into a pair of serpents. Similar to Hancock, they received their Devil Fruits during their enslavement under the World Nobles. Since being slaves was considered a source of embarrassment in Amazon Lily, the sisters fabricated stories about their Devil Fruits, claiming they were powers they obtained from vanquishing a creature called the “gorgon.” This gorgon reportedly placed petrifying eyes on their backs (the location of their brands) as a curse when it was unveiled.

In a unique twist, the third model was inspired by the legendary eight-headed monster Yamata no Orochi from Japanese folklore. This model bestowed upon its wielder, Kurozumi Orochi, an additional seven heads. Remarkably, this ability enabled him to withstand being decapitated up to seven times. Regrettably, due to Orochi’s lack of combat skills, he was unable to fully utilize the potential power of the Devil Fruit in battle.

3. Mushi Mushi no Mi

Bug Fruits

  • Models and their users: Kabutomushi (Kabu), Suzumebachi (Bian)

I’ve come across a peculiar set of Devil Fruits known as Mushi Mushi no Mi. These fruits grant their consumers the ability to metamorphose into insects. It’s not entirely clear whether the transformed bugs correspond to the actual size of the bugs or scale according to the user’s size. In the instances I’ve observed, two unique Devil Fruits have been consumed – one by a dwarf named Kabu, who can transform into a rhinoceros beetle, and another by Bian, who assumes the form of a hornet.

2. Batto Batto no Mi

Bat Fruits

  • Models and their users: Base (Stussy), Vampire (Redfield; non-canon)

The Batto Batto no Mi is a Devil Fruit that gives its wielder the ability to transform into a bat. Remarkably, this particular Devil Fruit model appeared before it was officially introduced in the storyline. In the game “One Piece: Unlimited World Red”, the vampire version of this fruit is consumed by Patrick Redfield, an old pirate longing to regain his former strength. He acquires it by draining Luffy’s vitality, but later chooses to give it back and forms an alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates instead.

In a later timeframe, the original form of the Devil Fruit made its appearance when Stussy, a replica of Miss Buckingham Stussy, chose to deceive her fellow agents in Cipher Pol 0. She was exposed as a hidden agent working for Dr. Vegapunk. Stussy possesses the ability to drain blood from her adversaries to render them unconscious, regardless of whether they are users of awakened Devil Fruits or not. Though she appears much older than her true age, it remains uncertain if this is due to her Devil Fruit powers, her cloning process, or some other factor.

1. Singular Models With Unconfirmed Bases

Assorted Devil Fruits

  • Models and their users: Sara Sara no Mi, Model: Axolotl (Smiley), Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (Kaido), Kumo Kumo no Mi, Model: Rosamygale Grauvogeli (Black Maria)

There are certain Zoan Devil Fruits with only one known user, such as Smiley, which Caesar Clown created and turns him into an axolotl despite being a salamander-like Devil Fruit. In contrast, Kaido’s Devil Fruit transforms him into the Azure Dragon (Seiryu), a significant entity in several eastern mythologies; however, it is reportedly a fish-transforming Devil Fruit model, which seems rather weak since fish can’t swim.

Black Maria’s special ability enables her to transform into an ancient spider named Rosamygale Grauvogeli. To enhance her hybrid appearance, she underwent cosmetic modifications aimed at making it more aesthetically pleasing according to conventional standards. Regrettably, this aspect of her character was taken advantage of by Nico Robin, who focused on Maria’s more vulnerable upper body during an attack. It’s possible that Maria’s Devil Fruit belongs to a category with other fruits like Onigumo’s, both capable of transforming into spiders.

While these Devil Fruits, despite their unusual designs, suggest there might be more like them, it’s unclear if they actually exist in the storyline or will ever be used by characters. For now, it’s uncertain whether other models are hidden off-screen, or if they’re just categorized uniquely for some unexplained reason.
