Summary
- Haki has become as important as Devil Fruits in One Piece.
- A new power system could involve ‘Demonic’ Devil Fruits.
- The Gorosei may have unique powers given by Imu, hinting at a new system.
Since the inception of the One Piece narrative, Devil Fruits have been a central element, serving as the foundation for the show’s power system. These are peculiar fruits that bestow extraordinary or nearly irrelevant abilities upon those who consume them. In the initial phases of the franchise, characters considered powerful were often thought to be so because they possessed the strongest Devil Fruits.
In time, a novel ability called Haki rose significantly in significance, eventually being second only to Devil Fruits as the most powerful force at sea within the world of One Piece. For years, Haki and Devil Fruits have been the primary power sources of this intriguing series. However, recent developments unveiled in the Egghead and Elbaf arcs hint towards the introduction of a brand-new power system, so let’s explore what this potential addition might entail.
A Brand-New Power System Could Be Coming
What Could This Look Like?
Since the Egghead arc unveiled the Gorosei’s secrets, I’ve found myself joining the ranks of fans who suspect there’s more to their powers than just being users of Mythical Zoan fruits. Yet, it’s quite plausible that they’re utilizing incredibly special Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits, transforming them into fearsome demonic beings – a theory some refer to as ‘Demonic’ Devil Fruits.
There’s another theory about this power that challenges our understanding of Devil Fruits. This theory suggests that the properties of Devil Fruits might be more like Mythical Zoan fruits, and even more intriguingly, it proposes that these fruits could have been originally Mythical Zoan fruits that were somehow corrupted by Imu. This hypothesis is based on the observation that the powers of both Devil Fruits and Mythical Zoan fruits seem to grant their users transformative abilities, and that each Elder has a trail of smoke around them, similar to Awakened Devil Fruits.
There appears to be supporting data suggesting that the abilities of the Elders resemble those of Mythical Zoans, yet they are granted by Imu, who has the power to revoke them instantly, regardless of location. This notion is strengthened by a theory proposing that the Sunlight Tree Eve runs through Pangea Castle and ends at the Red Line’s base. If the idea that Devil Fruits originate from this tree is valid, it’s plausible that the Chamber of Flowers is where Imu influences and corrupts these fruits directly.
In a different perspective, it’s proposed that this ability isn’t related to the conventional understanding of Mythical Zoan fruits’ properties. Instead, it could be a distinct, exclusive power possessed by Imu. This power allows Imu to grant monstrous abilities to their chosen followers, which appear strikingly similar to Mythical Zoan Devil Fruits. The reason this theory is more plausible than these being corrupted Devil Fruits lies in the fact that Imu has mastery over the Gorosei’s power.
We, the 5 Elders, are here before you!
Furthermore, it’s worth noting that the Gorosei possess immortality as part of the powers bestowed by Imu, an ability not found within any Devil Fruit. Moreover, the resilience of their transformations is peculiar; even a hit from Gear 5 Luffy failed to cause significant damage. Lastly, their healing capabilities are arguably unrivaled across the entirety of One Piece – traits that cannot be replicated by a single Devil Fruit.
Among several ideas, one theory proposes that Imu grants the Gorosei their extraordinary powers through a singularly potent Devil Fruit, uniquely capable of bestowing such abilities. Yet, this is merely a speculative notion. Regardless, it’s likely that Oda will introduce a novel power system exclusive to the villains in the series, potentially making the concept of the Final War even more intriguing.
Other Notable Instances Of A New Power System
A Unique Power of the Gods’ Knights

Story Arc | Elbaf |
Additionally, it appears that the legendary Gods’ Knights possess powers comparable to those wielded by the Gorosei. In the Elbaf arc, several of these knights were unveiled, demonstrating unique skills and discussing topics that had previously gone unexplored. Particularly intriguing are the enigmatic summoning circles and the notion of ‘the abyss’, both of which remain shrouded in mystery at present.
It appears that the Gods’ Knights can materialize anywhere on Earth through the enigmatic pentagram, much like the ones utilized by the ancient Elders. This is likely due to a secret symbol each knight bears, as evidenced by St. Shepherd Summers and St. Qilingham Limosiv, who both exhibited mysterious markings on their left arms. These symbols could have summoned them to Elbaf, given their discussions about traveling the abyss only because of a mark. This newfound ability might represent a fresh power system.
