Summary
- Scopper Gaban defeats Shepherd Sommers in battle.
- Fans are frustrated with Oda’s repetitive defeat tropes.
- Imu takes over Gunko’s body and prepares to demonstrate their dominance.
Over recent chapters of “One Piece”, Elbaf has turned into a warzone. The Holy Knights initiated the next stage of their operation, aiming to compel the Giants to erase their past and align with the World Government. Consequently, the nation found itself in dire straits, facing imminent destruction. Stepping up to the plate was Scopper Gaban, who took a stand against the Holy Knights in an attempt to protect Elbaf.
Scopper Gaban Defeated Shepherd Sommers
- Gaban easily defeated Sommers
- He rushed to save Collun but failed to do so
Initially, Scopper Gaban aimed to defeat Shepherd Sommers, whose peculiar Devil Fruit made it impossible for Saul to save the children. Following Saul’s unsuccessful attempt, Nico Robin conceived a plan to eliminate Sommers using a clone, but her strategy was exposed by the Holy Knights. They captured her and planned to inflict pain with his Devil Fruit ability. The situation seemed grim for Robin, but just when things looked bleak, Scopper Gaban appeared at the right moment and severed Sommers’ hand.
Initially, spectators thought Summers might regenerate and the Holy Knight would retaliate, but it turned out differently. Instead, Gaban found a way around the immortality of the Holy Knights and prevented them from recovering after attacks. The battle between the two persisted in One Piece Episode 1149, and it seemed Gaban would emerge victorious. Summers attempted to prolong the fight, but Gaban proved too swift and powerful for him. In a short span of time, Gaban overpowered the Holy Knight.
Following his victory over Sommers, Gaban understood there was still a chance to prevent Elbaf’s ruin. He then set off towards the children’s position with the intention of rescuing them. Things were progressing smoothly, and it seemed increasingly likely that Elbaf would be saved. As he drew nearer, Collun called out that his father was on his way to save them. Gunko instantly grasped the situation at hand. The Holy Knight swooped in and whisked Collun away. Gaban knew he had to act swiftly or risk losing Collun forever. Before launching an attack, the Mountain Eater employed Future Sight to foresee the consequences of his actions. Gaban foresaw Collun being fatally stabbed, so he surrendered. This allowed Gunko the chance to defeat Gaban.
Oda Has Used Similar Tropes Many Times

Fans have expressed disappointment following Gaban’s loss, as they feel Oda is repeating a familiar storytelling technique. They recall an instance of this pattern with Kozuki Oden, who was seemingly victorious against Kaido but ultimately lost due to an unexpected turn of events: Kurozumi Higurashi transforming into Momonosuke, causing the samurai to be caught off guard and allowing Kaido to deliver a fatal blow. The recent Elbaf arc has rekindled these feelings of frustration among fans.
It’s crucial to realize that these events are pivotal for moving the narrative forward. If Gaban hadn’t suffered defeat in the fight, the storyline would quickly reach its conclusion within just a handful of chapters. Instead, Gaban would have swiftly overpowered Gunko and Killingham, leaving them no chance. Once the Holy Knights were dispatched, Gaban would have rescued his son and the other children from their predicament.
Imu Takes Over Gunko’s Body
The Holy Knight No Longer Controls Her Actions

As Chapter 1149 drew to a close, viewers witnessed Gunko’s body being seized by Imu. They felt let down by the Holy Knights, as they had hoped the team would resolve the issue swiftly. In the last scene, Imu hinted that they would demonstrate God’s supremacy.
Allow mu to show you… the dominance of god!!! —Imu
In the upcoming chapter, we’ll witness Imu unveiling the full extent of their power. While it’s no secret that Imu possesses an array of Devil Fruit abilities, it has now been officially confirmed that they are also skilled in Haki. Although Imu hasn’t demonstrated Haki in battle yet, there’s little doubt that their Haki is exceptionally powerful, given their longevity dating back to the Void Century. Chapter 1150 of One Piece promises to offer fans a clearer understanding of what Imu is capable of when using their mastered Haki skills.
