This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
In the world of “One Piece,” the Marines represent one of the primary forces. Their mission is to maintain order by apprehending pirates and other ne’er-do-wells who cause chaos. With a vast workforce in the thousands, they have proven to be quite effective. Notably, many powerful characters from “One Piece” have served within their ranks, with Monkey D. Garp being one of them.
Monkey D. Garp Was The Strongest Marine In One Piece
Garp Fought Many Legendary Pirates

In the past, Monkey D. Garp enlisted in the Marines and quickly climbed the ladder of ranks, achieving the position of Vice Admiral quite swiftly. However, he decided to halt his advancement further as he wasn’t keen on serving under the authority of the Celestial Dragons.
In his case, Garp lacked a Devil Fruit, but that didn’t diminish his power. He consistently worked out, building up an impressive physical strength capable of pulverizing colossal rocks with just a punch. Moreover, Garp’s Haki was exceptionally powerful, ranking among the strongest in the series.
It’s commonly acknowledged that he and Sengoku were the only two Marines who could have gone head-to-head with Gol D. Roger and other top-tier pirates. In reality, Garp had numerous confrontations with Roger, and their battles often came very close to ending in each other’s deaths. After such intense bouts, a mutual respect developed between them. Roger went so far as to confide in Garp about his unborn child, demonstrating the level of trust he held for him. While Garp’s achievements undeniably make him the greatest Marine ever, he has since been surpassed by Akainu.
Akainu Is The New Face Of The Marines
Akainu Is Currently The Most Powerful Marine In One Piece

- Akainu is close to the level of Prime Garp
- Akainu has surpassed the current version of Garp
In the current scenario, it’s Akainu who holds the position of the Marine Fleet Admiral. He engaged in a prolonged battle with Kuzan and eventually prevailed, earning him the title of Fleet Admiral. Akainu firmly adheres to the concept of Absolute Justice, where he sees no middle ground. This Fleet Admiral is known for enforcing justice, regardless of any potential repercussions. Akainu has no hesitation in taking lives, even those considered innocent, if they dare to obstruct him.
Is every single one of you… willing to die for the sake of that kid? —Akainu
His lack of mercy provides him a unique edge in battles, as he attacks fiercely from the beginning without any pause. Unlike Kaido, who allows opponents time to demonstrate their abilities, Akainu is relentless. He does not provide his adversaries with any room for maneuvering.
Akainu Possesses One Of The Strongest Devil Fruits In One Piece

Akainu consumed the Magu Magu no Mi, a remarkable Logia-type Devil Fruit that stands out among its peers due to its extraordinary offensive capabilities. The number of individuals who can rival this fruit is limited. By ingesting the Magu Magu no Mi, Akainu has the ability to summon and manage molten lava at his will, making him a formidable force. Given the inherent danger of magma in the natural world, it’s not hard to understand why this Devil Fruit is so devastating.

Beyond the Magu Magu Fruit, Akainu possesses at least two distinct forms of Haki and exhibits remarkable mastery over them. Whether or not he holds Conqueror’s Haki is uncertain, but it seems likely given his position as the leader of the Marines. If none of the current Admirals nor lower-ranked Marines have Conqueror’s Haki, it would be unusual if the Fleet Admiral were an exception. We eagerly await more insights about Akainu in future story arcs.
Akainu Will Be Sabo’s Final Opponent

In the Final Saga, it’s clear that Akainu will play a significant part. He is expected to be among the last antagonists to be defeated, a necessary step towards transforming the world. Many spectators anticipate Luffy engaging with Akainu due to his involvement in Ace’s death. However, it seems more likely that Sabo would be the one to confront Akainu. Given his deep regret for not being able to aid Ace and Luffy during the events at Marineford, defeating Ace’s killer could serve as Sabo’s way of avenging his fallen brother.
