Though the legendary pirate existed long before the current storyline, his influence remains strong. Yet, in the latest chapter of One Piece, Oda shed light on a significant aspect regarding a different character – none other than Gecko Moria.

In the most recent feature article, Eiichiro Oda revealed that Gecko Moria’s true name is Kozuki Moria, making him a relative to Oden, Momonosuke, Hiyori, and Sukiyaki. This revelation adds a deeper significance to Moria’s past battle with Kaido. It turns out that Moria was not merely fighting for personal glory, but also for the sake of his kin. Despite his valiant efforts, Moria ultimately found himself overpowered by Kaido.

It’s worth noting that Oden was still among the living at that point, which means he could have joined forces with Moria to dethrone Kaido. However, Oden upheld his commitment to serve as a lord of fools instead. Although the past cannot be altered, Moria’s lineage has undeniably added an element of intrigue. As a member of the Kozuki clan, it’s likely that Moria can also decipher the Poneglyphs. The Kozuki clan is known for this ability, and since Moria shares their bloodline, it suggests he possesses the same skill. The Poneglyphs are treasure troves of knowledge, answering the most profound mysteries in existence. Having the capacity to read them would be an incredibly valuable asset.

Moria’s Ability Is Unique And Highly Coveted

Gecko Moria’s unique talent for deciphering Poneglyphs is bound to catch the interest of others. It’s suspected that Blackbeard wanted to enlist him due to his knowledge about Moria’s background. During the Marineford arc, Doflamingo attempted to eliminate Moria, as he was reportedly given orders from above to carry out this action.

Gecko Moria declined Blackbeard’s offer, leading to his imprisonment by the Yonko. Perona then journeyed to Hachinosu with the intention of freeing Moria, but it remains uncertain if she was able to achieve this feat. If Perona was successful in her mission, it suggests that Gecko Moria is currently a free man and probably residing in the New World.

Moria finds himself without Absalom, a loss he wouldn’t want to repeat with Perona. By now, it’s impossible for him to form a new crew, so it makes more sense to join an existing one. The Cross Guild could be the perfect fit, given that they’re in pursuit of the One Piece. However, they need someone skilled in deciphering writings, and Perona and Moria together can fulfill this requirement. Moreover, it would add excitement to see another ex-Shichibukai joining their ranks and working against the World Government.

Who Else Will Join The Cross Guild?

The Cross Guild is headed by Crocodile and Mihawk, two of the most powerful and intelligent characters in One Piece. They are willing to accept new members, such as Gecko Moria. However, it won’t be Moria who ultimately joins the Cross Guild; others stand to gain more by aligning with this organization instead.

Adding Boa Hancock to the Cross Guild could be incredibly advantageous. She needn’t serve them directly, but instead forge an alliance that suits her interests. Boa Hancock possesses a remarkable Devil Fruit ability, enabling her to turn anyone or anything into stone. This power isn’t confined to living beings alone; even inanimate objects like the Pacifista can be its targets.

Apart from Boa Hancock, Doflamingo might also find the Cross Guild advantageous. Although currently imprisoned in Impel Down, there’s a possibility he’ll manage to escape. Unlike Boa, Doflamingo isn’t known for his loyalty, but he harbors intense disdain for the Celestial Dragons and the World Government. Given that he once expressed interest in collaborating with Crocodile, the Cross Guild could potentially appeal to him as well.
