One Piece Has Officially Been Beaten By A New Manga

One Piece is currently the best-selling manga series worldwide, making its creator, Eiichiro Oda, one of the most successful authors of all time. It’s maintained a dedicated fanbase for over 28 years, with new chapters released weekly. While sales and popularity naturally fluctuate over such a long run, the series reached its highest point with the Marineford arc and hasn’t quite matched that level since.

Unfortunately, in September, *One Piece* was outsold by a lesser-known series called *The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity*. This happened primarily in Japan, and the anime adaptation of *The Fragrant Flower* was a major reason for its success.

One Piece Is The Biggest Manga, But It’s Been Outsold by The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity

The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Is The Most Sold Manga in Japan in September

One Piece is a hugely popular and successful manga series. It’s currently the best-selling manga ever, with over 550 million copies sold – a number no other series has come close to matching. It’s likely to stay that way for a long time, especially since modern manga series tend to be shorter than One Piece.

I’m a huge manga fan, and while nothing seems to consistently top *One Piece* in total sales – it’s a true legend! – it’s awesome to see other series occasionally take the lead, even if just for a month or a year. Recently, *The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity* actually beat *One Piece* in Japan! It was the best-selling series there in September 2025, and honestly, it looks like it’s going to be a really big hit overall. It’s not as well-known outside of Japan yet, but I’m excited to see where it goes!

Have One Piece Sales Decreased?

There Is A Decrease, But The Series is Still Going Strong

Recently, some other manga series have outsold *One Piece*, and fans have noticed. Titles like *The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity*, as well as *Demon Slayer* and *Jujutsu Kaisen*, have all surpassed *One Piece* in sales at times. This has led some fans to worry about declining sales numbers. While it’s true that sales aren’t as high as they were during the Marineford arc, this isn’t unexpected given how long the *One Piece* story has been running.

Even after nearly three decades, *One Piece* continues to sell incredibly well, which proves how consistently engaging the series has been for its fans. Sales are expected to jump again when the final story arc begins, potentially reaching the peak seen during the Marineford arc, but even if they don’t, the series is unlikely to experience a significant drop in popularity.

The next chapter of One Piece, chapter 1162, will be released next week, as usual on Sundays. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday, most international fans will be able to read it on October 12, 2025. You can read the chapter for free on Manga Plus.
