One Piece Has The Chance to End 2024 With a Bang

One Piece Has The Chance to End 2024 With a Bang

As a diehard One Piece fan since its inception in 1997, I can confidently say that this year’s anniversary celebrations have been nothing short of spectacular. However, the recent hiatus announcement for both the anime and manga has left me with a mix of emotions – excitement, anticipation, and a touch of anxiety.

2024 signifies a remarkable milestone as it marks a quarter of a century since the debut of One Piece’s anime! With over 1,100 episodes, numerous manga chapters, fifteen feature-length films, countless video games, a live-action adaptation, and much more, this franchise has become an undeniable cultural titan. It’s hard to believe that I’ve been following One Piece for so long! The franchise has already rolled out a plethora of content to celebrate its 25th anniversary, but the latest updates about its future have me eagerly anticipating even more exciting developments.

On October 20th, the franchise commemorated its anniversary by publishing “One Piece Fan Letter,” a free-adaptation of the “Straw Hat Stories” One Piece novel. This publication followed an announcement from Oda a week prior that had left fans astonished and eagerly anticipating.

One Piece’s Anime and Manga Are On a Hiatus

The anime and comic series “One Piece” will both take a short break. While the manga’s pause is temporary, with chapter 1131 set to release on November 11, creator Eiichiro Oda feels the need for a rest. Normally, Oda publishes three chapters before taking a week off, but this time he will be absent for two weeks due to his engagement in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of “One Piece.” Oda has confirmed that he’s traveled to South Africa to visit the set and supervise production. The duration of the live-action project’s filming may extend Oda’s absences, leading to longer gaps between manga chapters. Although it’s understandable for Oda to take these breaks, fans might grow impatient given how long they’ve been anticipating the Elbaf arc in the ongoing storyline.

Taking a breather from the Wano Country arc, I can’t help but feel relieved that my favorite anime, One Piece, is getting a six-month break. As a dedicated animator on this incredible series, we’ve been pushing ourselves to deliver nothing short of masterful work. After discussions between Toei Animation, distributors, and investors, it seems that the break was necessary for us all.

During these forthcoming gaps in release, fans won’t feel overly deprived of content. Instead, this pause offers an ideal moment for the series to keep disclosing updates. The rehashed version of the Fishman Island arc has been positively received, as fans have expressed that the arc was drawn out previously. However, it would be great if the franchise also introduces entirely new material, perhaps a fresh One Piece game title.

It’s Time For a New One Piece Video Game

The newest addition to the main series of “One Piece” video games, titled “One Piece Odyssey“, came out in 2023. In this game, fans can delve into earlier arcs within the “One Piece” narrative while encountering fresh storylines. However, it’s worth noting that due to its focus on earlier arcs, the game’s plot might feel a bit behind compared to the manga and anime. The latest arc presented in “Odyssey ” is Dressrosa, which wrapped up in 2016. In contrast, mobile games like “One Piece: Bounty Rush” and “One Piece: Treasure Cruise” have kept pace with the franchise’s progression, but PC and console game titles have yet to catch up.

In the anime series “One Piece,” there are still some significant storylines and character capabilities that have yet to be translated into video games. The Wano Country arc was not just an impressive milestone in the animation, but it demonstrated the Straw Hats at their strongest yet. Key scenes such as Robin’s fight with Black Maria, Zoro’s confrontation with Kaidou, and Luffy’s transformation into Gear 5 stand out. It is highly desirable to bring the Wano Country arc to video games, ideally without any further delay.

It’s highly unlikely that a studio could release a top-tier One Piece video game before the end of this year, but making an announcement about it would certainly lift the spirits of fans and offer another fantastic way to honor One Piece’s 25th anniversary.
