In the Elbaf arc of “One Piece,” fans have been introduced to numerous intriguing characters, including the Holy Knights. These characters possess immense power and wield significant influence within the “One Piece” universe. Introduced during the Final Saga, it’s logical to expect that the Holy Knights will significantly impact the story as it progresses. Already, it seems that creator Oda has an exciting role planned out for them in the coming chapters.
It seems that due to the lack of popularity compared to groups like the Yonko, people doubt the true might of the Holy Knights. However, recent chapters suggest that their power is far greater than anticipated, and the Elbaf arc promises to reveal just how strong they truly are.
The Order Of The Holy Knights And Their Responsibilities
- An Army Of Celestial Dragons
- Their Authority Surpasses The Navy
In the story of One Piece, it’s noted that the Holy Knights emerged during the era of Reverie and gained significant power following the Navy’s apparent failure. They now hold authority over the Holy Land, acting as a sort of superiors to the Celestial Dragons. Essentially, they serve as the enforcers of law in the world of One Piece, with jurisdiction over Marijoa. The Holy Knights can even pass judgment on the Celestial Dragons themselves, making them one step above the ordinary Celestial Dragons. Their primary role is to maintain order and protect the Holy Land and its inhabitants. However, if a Celestial Dragon were to break the law, it’s the Holy Knights who are tasked with bringing them to justice.
In Marijoa, the Holy Knights seem to have taken command of the situation. — The Marines
The Holy Knights are headed by Saint Garling Figarland, who holds the position of their Supreme Commander. Essentially, they all follow his command. Beneath him is another figure, Saint Shamrock Figarland, serving as the Commander of the Holy Knights. However, due to Garling’s promotion to the Five Elders and his new role as the Godhead of Science and Defense, it remains unclear if he still leads the Holy Knights or not.
It’s evident from the storyline that the Holy Knights hold an unparalleled level of power, surpassing that of any marine, including Fleet Admiral Sakazuki, and even the regular Celestial Dragons. They report only to Garling, the Five Elders, and of course, Imu. This exclusive group wields immense strength, although their true power is often overlooked by fans. However, we can expect to learn more about them in due time.
The Members Of The Holy Knights
So Far, Only Five Named Members Exist
In the world of One Piece, the Holy Knights are essentially divine beings, either born among the Celestial Dragons as part of the Founding 20 or elevated to serve as the Knights of God. Their divine nature is unquestioned within the series. The first comprehensive look at the Holy Knights for fans came during the Egghead Arc, where a segment of the God Valley flashback was presented. This glimpse revealed that Captain Saint Garling Figarland, who led the Holy Knights then, was instigating war following the Native Hunting Games. Other members were hinted at but not named yet.
Holy Knights, follow me into battle. — Garling Figarland
In the Egghead Arc, viewers were introduced to several additional Holy Knights within the world of One Piece. Initially, Gunko and Shamrock Figarland made their appearance. It’s worth mentioning that Shamrock is the older brother of Shanks and the son of Garling Figarland. Concerning Gunko, her family background remains unclear, yet she belongs to the Celestial Dragon lineage. Furthermore, two additional Holy Knights were introduced in One Piece chapter 1140.
In the world of One Piece, it was recently disclosed to fans that Saint Sommers, a member of House Shepherd (the same household as Ju Peter), and Saint Killingham of the Rimoshifu Family are part of the Holy Knights. As the narrative unfolds and more details about Elbaf emerge, fans can expect to encounter additional members from these esteemed groups.

From the initial outlines of the Holy Knights, it’s clear that there are at least nine of them. However, since there are eighteen royal families residing in Marijoa, it’s possible that more Holy Knights may exist.
The True Strength Of The Holy Knights
The Holy Knights Are Monstrously Powerful
Many people tend to undervalue the power of the Holy Knights, viewing them as being on par with Yonko Commanders or merely cannon fodder. However, this perception couldn’t be more incorrect. In reality, the Holy Knights are formidable beings in their own right and their powers are staggering. These individuals possess immense strength, a fact made evident by Dragon himself acknowledging them as strong enough to stand against the Revolutionary Army. If even Dragon regards them with caution, then it is clear that they are incredibly powerful.
Beyond these facts, it’s worth noting that the Holy Knights are not just physically powerful; they possess other extraordinary abilities as well. For instance, Garling Figarland, acknowledged by Oda himself as strong, stands shoulder to shoulder with the Five Elders, who are akin to the Yonko. Shamrock Figarland boasts immense power, considering himself superior to Loki, who carries a bounty of 2.6 billion berries. Given his familial relation to Shanks, it’s reasonable to assume he belongs in the Yonko tier.
Gunko, praised by Shamrock as incredibly strong, is said to be so formidable that Loki, even if freed, would struggle to match her strength. This suggests a high power level for Gunko, potentially on par with the Empersors and at least equal to the Admirals.
Saint Rimoshifu Killingham wields a divine Devil Fruit of the Kirin, an awakened ability known to be one of the mightiest in mythology, particularly in Japan. The strength of Sommers remains unclear, but given his company, it’s likely he’s among the top-tier as well, at least on par with Admirals, and perhaps even reaching Yonko ranks.
During the God Valley Conflict, it was the Holy Knights who joined in, demonstrating their formidable combat abilities not only against pirate groups like the Rocks Pirates and the Roger Pirates, but also others. Undeniably, they’re formidable opponents that should never be underestimated.
Should the above not convince fans, they might want to ponder on the fact that Shamrock Figarland is returning to Marijoa. This leaves only three Holy Knights within the country. This implies that Oda deems these three knights powerful enough to face a Yonko crew, two formidable Giant crews, and possibly even Loki. Given their strength, it’s clear that the Holy Knights are significantly more powerful than their opponents.
