This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
For a long time, most One Piece fans considered Gol D. Roger the greatest pirate of all time, and for good reason – he was the only one to ever achieve the title of Pirate King. But recently, opinions have begun to change.
The recent God Valley flashback in the One Piece manga has wrapped up the story of Davy D. Xebec. Before this, fans knew very little about Xebec, making it hard to understand his motivations. Now, with the new information revealed, readers can finally form their own opinions about him.
Davy D. Xebec’s Legacy Is Superior To Roger’s
Xebec Has Surpassed Roger After The God Valley Flashback
- Xebec shaped an entire era
- Xebec is a One Piece great
A lot of fans now think Xebec had a bigger impact than Gol D. Roger, which might seem surprising at first. However, when you really look at everything Xebec accomplished, it starts to make sense.
I will be back. —Davy D. Xebec
Xebec was related to Davy D. Jones, who some believed was the original ruler of the world. When Xebec revealed his family name to Imu, Imu reacted with intense anger. Despite coming from such a powerful family, Xebec chose to conceal his heritage and live a quiet life. This plan failed, and he ultimately became the most notorious pirate of his time. Remarkably, he even managed to sneak into the heavily guarded Marijoa during a Reverie, a feat considered nearly impossible.
It’s already incredibly difficult for anyone to get into this place, so the pirate managing to sneak in during the Reverie is amazing. But he didn’t just get in – he kidnapped several kings, killed an Admiral, and even confronted Imu, threatening them as well.
After the events at Marijoa, Xebec began gathering the world’s most notorious pirates. They united to become the Rocks Pirates and quickly rose to prominence. Though driven and powerful, Xebec was a man of strong values, fiercely loyal to those he considered friends and always ready to protect them. Ultimately, his love for his family brought him back to his homeland, God Valley.
Xebec, a powerful warrior, triumphed over Saint Figarland Garling, a member of the Holy Knights, in God Valley. He even managed to strike Imu, though without causing any harm. Despite a remarkable life, Xebec met a tragic end. After Saturn was defeated, Imu used a special power called Domi Reversi to transform Xebec into a demon, stripping him of his free will and making him serve Imu. Eventually, Roger and Garp teamed up to stop him.
Luffy And Blackbeard Will Surpass Xebec
Xebec is undoubtedly a legendary pirate in the world of One Piece, but it’s likely someone will eventually become even more powerful. Two characters currently stand out as potential successors: his son, Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard), and Monkey D. Luffy. Both are incredibly strong and driven, with Luffy aiming to be the Pirate King and Blackbeard wanting both that title and control of the entire world – a goal he inherited from his father.
Blackbeard is making significant progress towards finding Laugh Tale, having already gathered three of the crucial Road Poneglyphs. Luffy is close behind, also possessing copies of three. It’s becoming clear that the competition to become Pirate King is primarily between these two. While Luffy is the story’s hero, suggesting he’ll likely reach Laugh Tale first and claim the title, the rivalry promises to be an intense and rewarding one.
