Summary
- Garp’s fate – rescue, execution, or escape – may kick off the Final War in One Piece.
- SWORD or the Revolutionary Army may save Garp from the Blackbeard Pirates, leading to massive battles.
- The possibility of Kuzan being a double-agent for the World Government raises the chance of Garp’s escape.
Since the Blackbeard Pirates raided Amazon Lily, they have continually expanded their dominance and might. Not only did they reveal their malicious intentions to the world, but they also abducted Koby and transported him to Hachinosu as a negotiating tool against the Navy, positioning them as one of the most formidable adversaries in One Piece. It was during this time that Garp and the rest of SWORD emerged on the scene.
In one of the most remarkable episodes in the series ‘One Piece’, the Marine Hero, known for his legendary status, demonstrated why he was often compared to Roger at his peak. However, even though he bravely faced off against the entire Blackbeard Pirates alone, they cleverly used Koby as a decoy and overpowered Garp, resulting in his capture. This event has left many fans speculating that Garp might face execution, potentially initiating the Final War. Here’s why this could be significant.
The Final War Could Begin With The Rescue Or Execution Of Garp
The Most Important Marine In The Setting

| Most Recent Appearance | One Piece, Chapter 1126, “Settling the Score” |
The happenings at Hachinosu are crucial for the continuation of the One Piece narrative. When Garp and SWORD attempted to rescue Koby from there, unfortunately, they ended up capturing Garp instead. This development was a significant setback for the Marines. Yet, this incident paves the way for several intriguing prospects in the story’s future.
Currently, it’s unclear what will become of the renowned Marine Hero, Garp, as three potential outcomes seem plausible. The first scenario suggests he might miraculously survive this predicament by receiving aid from outside sources. A second, bleaker outcome could lead to his execution. Lastly, a possibility that has stirred debate among fans is that Garp will manage to escape imprisonment, although this seems the least probable of the three.
Our experiences don’t define us. It’s what we gain from them that matters.
I’m absolutely thrilled about the buzz that SWORD might be making a move to save Garp from the iron grip of the Blackbeard Pirates! As you know, Koby and Garp share an extraordinary bond, one where the old Naval officer has nurtured the young Navy aspirant into greatness. The rigorous training he’s given Koby has propelled him to incredible leaps in power and rank, making him a Captain in record time.
However, the might of the Blackbeard Pirates is formidable, as we’ve seen at Hachinosu. It seems that SWORD won’t be able to take them on without the support of Garp himself. I can hardly wait to see how this unfolds!
Due to these circumstances, many supporters believe that the Revolutionary Army might intervene to rescue Garp, given Dragon’s desire to save his father. Such an intervention could result in a colossal clash and fight with the Blackbeard Pirates on their stronghold. Since both parties would be engaged in this conflict, it could trigger the World Government to dispatch troops to the island, aiming to capitalize on the situation by defeating two of their major adversaries during the skirmish. Thus, this incident might escalate towards the Final War.

It’s plausible that the Straw Hats will intervene to rescue Garp following the Elbaf arc, even though Luffy isn’t particularly close to his grandfather. However, they are family, and Luffy has demonstrated a willingness to go to great extremes for those he considers as part of his family. Given how significant a threat he poses to the World Government, it seems likely that they would capitalize on this moment when he is focused on other matters to take action against him.
Some spectators speculate that the Blackbeard Pirates might carry out an execution for Garp, or even just put him on trial. Given their intentions, it could lead to another confrontation where the Straw Hats and Revolutionary Army invade Hachinosu in an attempt to save him. This situation bears a striking resemblance to the events at Marineford. If Garp does meet his end this way, it would set the stage for Luffy’s long-anticipated showdown with Blackbeard, a battle that has been foreshadowed since the story began.
The world’s gonna turn on its head. Sounds fun, huh?
In this fight, it’s established as one of the most significant battles within the franchise, potentially signaling the start of the Final War. As for whether Garp meets his end in this encounter, that’s yet to be determined. However, if it does occur, it would carry immense implications for the world of One Piece and could pave the way for the Final War.
In the lore of the franchise, the Last War, a momentous occurrence in the annals of the world, is predicted to be of immense importance, foretold by Joyboy centuries ago. Given this prophecy, it’s logical that when the conflict begins, it should be triggered by a substantial event that compels the dominant forces globally to unite. This could transpire in various manners, but Garp’s execution would fit the bill particularly well, as he is associated with significant figures in the narrative who either aim to save him or seek his demise.
Garp May Break Out Of His Imprisonment On Hachinosu
The Third Option

- Garp is an integral character in the story.
- The prospect of his execution is important enough for the Final War to start.
The potential outcome concerning Garp’s destiny revolves around him possibly breaking free from the grip of the Blackbeard Pirates, despite it being an uncommon scenario. While improbable, there remains a possibility. In the latest chapter (1126), Garp was depicted chained up on Hachinosu, appearing extremely frail and bruised, yet still breathing. Known for his fierce rivalry with Gol D. Roger and as one of the most powerful Marines in history, who derived his strength solely from his proficiency in Haki, there’s a lingering hope that he may regain his strength to escape this predicament.
It appears that he’s bound in Seastone chains, a material that typically restrains those with Devil Fruit powers. However, since he doesn’t possess such power, escaping these chains should not pose an issue for him. Given sufficient time, the injuries he sustained from his fight against Kuzan and the Blackbeard Pirates might heal, allowing him to regain enough strength to break free.

An opposing theory that’s gaining traction is the idea that Kuzan might be working undercover for the World Government. This speculation has arisen since his joining the Blackbeard Pirates, as this decision appears to contradict the character we know him to be. Consequently, fans have been left wondering if he was covertly assigned to infiltrate Blackbeard’s crew by Akainu, or if he secretly belongs to SWORD. The first theory seems more probable among fans.
If Garp belonged to SWORD, he probably would have known about it, but their fight on Hachinosu suggests otherwise. This could mean that after being defeated by Akainu, Garp was given a unique assignment by the new Fleet Admiral, which might lead to his eventual assistance in helping Garp escape once his task is finished. Given their strong bond and interconnected lives, this possibility is becoming more plausible among fans. For now, we can only speculate as we wait for future developments. The idea of Kuzan and Garp escaping together is becoming increasingly intriguing.
