One Piece has been running for a very long time. It’s been consistently published for over 28 years, and it’s still going! One Piece’s story and artwork are amazing, but creating such a fantastic story every week is challenging. Being a manga artist is difficult, and it can be very demanding.
Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, has been diligently developing the story for nearly thirty years. It’s well known that Oda has faced some health challenges. Fans are particularly worried now because the One Piece manga is taking an unexpected hiatus. Jump has confirmed the break, stating that Oda’s health is the primary reason for the pause.
One Piece’s Manga Goes On A Sudden Break
Oda’s Worsening Health Seems To Be The Cause
Fans were really looking forward to the next One Piece chapter, number 1162. A major flashback is currently happening in Elbaf, showing incredible characters from the past – Harald, Roger, and especially Rocks D. Xebec. Unfortunately, this flashback has been repeatedly paused because of schedule breaks. One Piece was at last starting to reveal what happened at God Valley, and just as readers were eager to learn the truth about events from 38 years ago, a break was unexpectedly announced.
We have some concerning news: Eiichiro Oda, the creator of the popular manga One Piece, has unexpectedly paused work on the series. This is quite out of the ordinary. Typically, Oda schedules his breaks, and fans are informed beforehand through Jump. An unplanned break often suggests a more significant problem, like a health concern. It seems Oda may not be feeling well right now.
Shueisha has also verified this information. Currently, Oda isn’t feeling well. He last became ill around November of the previous year, which caused an unexpected pause in the release of the One Piece manga.

When Will the One Piece Manga Return?
Returns On October 12

The latest break in the One Piece manga came unexpectedly, and at first, it wasn’t clear when new chapters would be released. Fans were preparing for a potentially lengthy pause, but it’s now been announced that the manga will be back in just one week, on October 12, 2025. Regardless, One Piece fans are sending their best wishes for Oda’s quick recovery and are eagerly awaiting his return.
To our valued readers, thank you for consistently enjoying One Piece. We regret to inform you that, due to the author’s health, there will be no new issue this time. We sincerely apologize to everyone who was eagerly anticipating it. Please note that the current issue’s postcards and table of contents still list One Piece as being published, but this is an error.
We weren’t able to fix the error before the printing process began. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The story will continue in issue 46, which will be available on October 14th. We appreciate your ongoing support of One Piece.” – Shonen Jump Editorial Department
