As a long-time fan of One Piece, I’ve followed Eustass Kid’s journey with great interest. His high bounty and rivalry with Luffy had me hooked from the start. But as I watched him fail time and again to bring down Kaido and Big Mom with Law, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment.
Since Eustass Kid made his appearance at Sabaody Archipelago in “One Piece,” fans have noticed similarities between him and Monkey D. Luffy. When he first emerged, Kid boasted an impressive bounty of 315 million berries, the largest among the Supernovas. This observation led to numerous discussions within the fanbase, with many speculating that Kid could be Luffy’s most formidable opponent down the line.
Before the Straw Hat Pirates arrived in the New World, a boy and his team had already gotten there, but they failed to make any remarkable achievements. In truth, during an encounter with Ben Beckman, the boy, named Kid, lost his arm. Later on, in the Dressrosa storyline, Kid was spotted conversing with Apoo and Hawkins about forming an alliance to defeat Kaido. Regrettably, both Kid and Killer were brutally attacked by Kaido on the same island where they had been planning their alliance.
A Second Chance At Redemption
Kid Fought Big Mom And Kaido With The Worst Generation
Kid got severely beaten by Kaido and was subsequently incarcerated in Wano’s prison. He stayed there until Luffy orchestrated his release. After gaining freedom, Kid joined forces with Law and Luffy to bring down Big Mom and Kaido. When the Worst Generation confronted the two Yonko on the rooftop, they were quickly outmatched. Big Mom and Kaido complemented each other’s strengths effectively, rendering a victory elusive. With no feasible alternative left, they chose to divide and conquer, believing it would increase their chances of success.
Luffy stayed atop the roof determined to clash with Kaido, while Law and Kid engaged Big Mom below. A formidable challenge awaited Luffy, but he didn’t let the enormity of it daunt him. Big Mom posed a significant threat for Law and Kid as well, but they enjoyed a numerical advantage. Despite their best efforts, the duo failed to inflict much damage on her. It was only when they activated their Devil Fruit powers that Big Mom began to feel the pressure. The two rising pirates managed to weaken her significantly without Big Mom employing her Haki. After a lengthy confrontation, Law and Kid emerged victorious. Similarly, Luffy overcame Kaido in an intense one-on-one battle. Following the conclusion of the war, each Supernova received new bounties – an unexpected 3 billion berries. The strange reward was attributed to Luffy’s solo victory against his adversary.

Kid Was humiliated By Shanks
Luffy not only earned a large reward, but he was also recognized as one of the Yonko, making him the youngest person ever given this title. This news irked Kid, who felt they were equals. Fortunately, no conflicts ensued, and the crews of the Worst Generation went their distinct ways: The Straw Hats set sail for Egghead Island, the Heart Pirates journeyed to Winner Island, while the Kid Pirates made their way to Elbaf.
Unfortunate for Law, the Blackbeard Pirates sprung an ambush on him, intending to seize the Road Poneglyphs. Consequently, their ships engaged in a fierce battle close to Winner Island. Thus far, no victor has emerged, but it appears doubtful that the Heart Pirates can surmount this challenge. In contrast, Kid and his team journeyed to Elbaf in pursuit of the man with the scarred torso. They suspected he could direct them to the One Piece. As they approached the land of giants, they understood they would encounter the Red Hair Pirates. The Yonko had fortified the island to thwart intruders and safeguard his dominion.
Failing Again
When Shanks and his companions discovered that Kid was close to the shores of Elbaf, they quickly prepared for battle. Kid’s allies planned to encircle him, but the Supernova was displeased with their actions. Kid retaliated by crafting a cannon to unleash Damned Punk. He believed this attack would easily annihilate their fleet. However, before he could execute the assault, Shanks employed his Future Sight and countered with Divine Departure. This move not only obliterated Kid’s weapon but also sent him crashing into the ship’s mast. Even Killer, who attempted to aid his captain, was ensnared in the attack’s reach.
Shanks obtained the Road Poneglyphs from the other Kid Pirates by allowing their captain to survive. He then departed with the replicas, prompting Dorry and Brogy to launch a powerful assault, sinking the Victoria Punk. In just a few short minutes, Kid suffered a crushing defeat, losing both his treasured Poneglyphs and his beloved ship. This humiliating loss is a setback from which Kid may not be able to recover.
As a dedicated fan of One Piece, I can confidently assert that Luffy and Kid have vastly different stories when it comes to their encounters with Kaido. While Kid may have fought valiantly against the Beast Pirates’ captain, he ultimately succumbed to defeat. In contrast, Luffy faced Kaido alone and managed to gain the upper hand before Guernica’s intervention. The fact that Kaido and Shanks share similarities only strengthens my belief that Luffy would not have struggled as much as Kid did.
