This list contains spoilers up to the Wano arc
One fundamental guideline that pirates in the world of “One Piece” strive to follow during their voyage is to steer clear of the formidable Yonko at all times, given their immense power and the likelihood that any who challenge them will only suffer embarrassment for their troubles. To underscore the remarkable combat prowess of these individuals, Eiichiro Oda has interspersed numerous instances in the “One Piece” narrative where a powerful character is made to seem insignificant by a Yonko pirate.
Indeed, while the Yonko might not appear as fearsome as they initially were at the start of the story, it’s important to remember that they remain the most formidable pirate crews in the world of One Piece, despite some of them growing older. Notably, there have been several instances where a character chose to confront a Yonko in a duel, often with disastrous results by the conclusion of the fight, serving as a stark reminder of their unmatched power and skill.
Luffy Is Cut Down To Size By Kaido
The Straw Hat Captain Bit Off Way More Than He Could Chew
- Episode: 915
After amassing victories against several Warlords and Marines, including defeating a Yonko commander in my last adventure, I found myself stepping foot on the land of Wano. The thought that I might now possess the strength to challenge the invincible Kaido ignited a fire within me. With newfound determination, I plunged straight into the heart of the Yonko’s domain soon after setting foot on this island of samurai warriors.
Observing the scene, it’s clear that Luffy landed a few blows on Kaido during his dragon form, but that was only possible because Kaido had just emerged from one of his frequent drinking bouts, leaving him in a stupor. However, once sobered up, a mere Thunder Bagua attack sent Luffy tumbling out of Gear 4, rendering him unconscious and leading to his confinement in Udon Prison. This incident was merely another instance where the mighty Kaido bested Luffy, even though Luffy eventually triumphed over him later due to his Devil Fruit abilities. But the road to victory was far from smooth for our resilient hero.
Big Mom Toys Around With Brook
The Yonko Desperately Wanted To Make The Soul King Her Own Personal Pet
- Episode: 818
Regardless of the overwhelming strength of his adversary, Big Mom, on Whole Cake Island, there came a time when Brook chose to confront her bravely, with the primary aim of rescuing his comrades, particularly Sanji. Although Brook has demonstrated impressive fighting skills, he’s typically not regarded as one of the most powerful members of the Straw Hat crew. Yet, aware of his relative weakness, Brook ingeniously thought of methods to inflict damage on Big Mom during their fierce battle.
For instance, through his music, he could control Big Mom’s subordinates by affecting their spirits. However, regrettably for him, this didn’t alter the course of the battle. In truth, Big Mom was just playing with Brook during the entire fight, intending to preserve his skeletal form from excessive harm because she desired him as her personal toy. Consequently, any attack Brook launched was easily deflected by Big Mom using Haki, and even when he caught her off guard, Napoleon and Zeus were there to thwart him.
Shanks Shuts Down Green Bull With Overwhelming Haki
Even The Admirals Shudder In Fear At The Sight Of Shanks
- Episode: 1082
Although Admiral Greenbull was initially presented during the Reverie, it wasn’t until late in the Wano saga that his true identity was publicly disclosed. Despite possessing the Wood Woods Devil Fruit, making him a formidable adversary for pirates in combat, his spectacular entrance was abruptly ended by Shanks. Remarkably, Shanks, who observed the Admiral from afar on his ship, managed to subdue him with a powerful burst of Conqueror’s Haki.
In reality, his power was so overwhelming that Greenbull had no choice but to yield, confessing he wasn’t prepared to confront the Red Hair Pirates in his current state. The fact that Shanks managed to incapacitate an Admiral without any physical contact speaks volumes about just how formidable this individual really is.
Shanks Obliterates Kid And His Rail Gun
Maybe Taking Aim At The Red-Haired Pirates Wasn’t Such A Bright Idea After All
- Episode: 1112
Since Shanks severed Kid’s arm, the ruthless pirate captain has been itching for retaliation against the Yonko who embarrassed him during the timeskip. Following Kid’s successful attack on Big Mom with Law’s assistance, his mission to take down Yonkos didn’t stop; instead, he aimed his newly acquired railgun not just at Shanks but at Shanks and his entire crew.
In a blink of an eye, Shanks understood through his Observational ability that if Kid had fired his weapon, it would have annihilated the ship and everyone on board. Being a captain who valued his crew immensely, Shanks didn’t hesitate to act. He soared into the air and charged straight toward Kid, readying himself for an attack. What followed was a spectacle seldom seen in the series – Divine Departure. With a swift strike, Shanks destroyed Kid’s railgun and sent him flying into the ocean, thus eliminating Kid from the pursuit of the One Piece treasure. This decisive action served as a potent lesson for Kid, demonstrating the repercussions of challenging a Yonko.
Blackbeard Uses His Two Devil Fruits To Obliterate Law
Not Even Law Can Stand A Chance Against A Man With Two Devastating Devil Fruits
- Episode: 1093
For centuries, it’s been known that an individual can only consume one Devil Fruit. Consuming additional ones would result in the body disintegrating and exploding due to the excessive power. However, Blackbeard bucked this trend, using his unique circumstance to seize two of the most potent fruits in the series. He was thrilled to test these new powers when he faced Law following the latter’s departure from Wano.
With the Ope Ope no Mi, Law’s Devil Fruit already activated, he held his ground against Blackbeard, using formidable attacks like his signature Shock Wille. However, despite his confidence, the battle didn’t go in Law’s favor. Blackbeard unleashed devastating blows and harnessed the power of darkness, almost overpowering Law to the brink of death. It was Bepo who intervened at the last moment to save their captain, preventing a potentially fatal outcome for Law. This confrontation resulted in one of the most disheartening defeats Law experienced throughout the series.
Whitebeard Spooks Akainu
The Future Fleet Admiral Could Barely Keep Up With Whitebeard
- Episode: 484
Akainu, a stern and serious Marine, is renowned for his relentless pursuit of eliminating pirates at any cost. However, the only individual who managed to instill genuine dread in Akainu, even the future Fleet Admiral, was Whitebeard. Towards the climax of the Battle of Marineford, Whitebeard, severely wounded with multiple sword wounds and bullet holes, still inflicted an incredible amount of harm on Akainu. In fact, despite his weakened state, Whitebeard gave Akainu a tough fight, one that he barely managed to keep up with, even though Whitebeard was nearing the end.
Despite Whitebeard’s single punch still being an impressive feat for anyone to withstand, it was somewhat embarrassing for Akainu, who loathes him deeply, to be thrown around and propelled into a floor hole by the very person he despises so intensely. However, it’s worth noting that Whitebeard has had his fair share of making others look less than formidable in battle, boasting a long lineup of defeated opponents who have experienced humiliation at his hands during his extensive sea voyages.
Luffy Turns Kaido Into A Cartoon
The True Power Of Nika Is Unrivaled, As Kaido Came To Find Out First-Hand
- Episode: 1071
Observing the situation, it’s not surprising that Kaido, known for his supposed invincibility, would carry an air of unshakable self-assurance when facing off against any pirate or Marine who dares to challenge him. However, a drastic turn of events unfolded when Luffy unlocked Gear 5. This transformation tapped into the mighty power of the Sun God Nika, transforming not just Luffy’s environment but also his adversary Kaido, making it seem as if they had stepped into a whimsical cartoon world.
Empowered by this transformation, Luffy gained divine-like abilities that allowed him to manipulate Kaido as if he were merely a plaything, effortlessly tossing him around and even using his massive form as a jumping rope. This spectacle of power left an indelible impression on everyone present.
Despite being known as the brutal ruler of Wano, Kaido didn’t want to be humiliated by a pirate who had previously been defeated by him multiple times. However, Luffy’s Gear Five was so powerful that it was what finally allowed him to defeat Kaido for good. It’s worth noting that how Luffy defeated Kaido left a rather embarrassing mark on Kaido’s reputation.
