This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Monkey D. Luffy is the central character in One Piece, and most of the story revolves around him. Throughout his adventures, he’s visited many islands and gathered a crew who repeatedly help him along the way. Luffy trusts his crewmates and knows they’re strong, so he depends on them when things get tough.
Luffy doesn’t want to overwhelm his crew, so he keeps pushing himself to get stronger. As one of the Yonko, he’s now a hugely powerful pirate in the world of One Piece, but he didn’t become a leader easily. He faced many difficult challenges and setbacks along the way.
Luffy Will Receive A New Haki Power-up Soon
- Luffy’s next Haki upgrade will take his strength to a different level
- Oda has likely decided what power-up he wants to give Luffy
Luffy and his crew are currently in Elbaf, facing a dangerous situation: Imu and the Holy Knights are trying to destroy them and have taken control of the island. The villains are winning, and Elbaf is completely under their power. Scopper Gaban attempted to fight, but Gunko stopped him by holding Colon hostage. With Gaban defeated, it looks like Elbaf is doomed.
As long as I’m alive I have infinite chances! —Luffy
The nation faces destruction if Luffy and his crew can’t find a solution. Right now, Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji aren’t powerful enough to defeat the Holy Knights, as they don’t have the necessary Haki to overcome the Knights’ ability to heal. But things are about to change. When the story returns to present-day Elbaf, Gaban will probably reveal a special type of Haki that can bypass the Knights’ regeneration. Once Luffy learns how to truly harm these seemingly immortal enemies, he’ll become an even greater danger to the World Government.
Luffy Will Learn To Use Critical Mass Haki
Roger And Garp Are Only Two Confirmed Users Of Critical Mass Haki
During the flashback in God Valley, Oda revealed a more powerful form of Haki called Critical Mass Haki. Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp used this Haki when battling Davy D. Xebec. Despite their strongest attacks, they struggled to harm Xebec, as his transformation had significantly boosted his strength and Haki abilities.
Roger and Garp discovered their usual attacks weren’t strong enough to break through Xebec’s defenses, so they needed a new strategy. Roger suggested Garp focus all his power into one massive attack, believing that concentrating his strength would overcome Xebec’s armor. Roger called this technique Critical Mass Haki. Garp was reluctant at first, but with no other options, they used Critical Mass Haki to finally stop Xebec. Since Oda introduced this ability in a flashback, it’s very likely Luffy will learn it too. With Critical Mass Haki, Luffy could potentially defeat powerful opponents with strong Haki, such as the Five Elders, Imu, and even the other Yonko.
Luffy Will Be Extremely Overpowered By The End Of The Series
Image by Toei Animation Some fans worry that Luffy gaining Critical Mass Haki might make him overpowered, but it’s important to remember he needs to become stronger than any pirate before him – including legends like Joyboy, Imu, Xebec, and Roger. Achieving that level of power requires mastering all forms of Haki and fully utilizing his Devil Fruit abilities.
While Luffy’s Gear 5th transformation is incredibly powerful, he hasn’t fully mastered it yet. He can’t maintain the form for very long, which became clear during the Egghead arc when he repeatedly exhausted himself and needed help from his crew. Being unable to move during a crucial fight against a top-level opponent is a significant weakness, so Luffy still needs to improve his control over Gear 5th.
Luffy Will Fight Blackbeard In The Final Saga
I’ve been waiting a long time, and it looks like Luffy is finally going to clash with Blackbeard in what seems like the story’s final arc. Everyone’s been anticipating this fight for years! Both of them are after the same thing – the legendary treasure, One Piece – and they’ve each already collected three of the crucial Road Poneglyphs. Whoever manages to find the last one will be a huge step closer to claiming the prize.

Before Luffy and Blackbeard finally battle each other, they’ll each have to overcome several other powerful enemies. Luffy is expected to fight the Holy Knights, potentially a member of the Five Elders, Imu, and even the Cross Guild. Blackbeard will likely face similar challenges, including Shanks, the Five Elders, and Imu. Only after dealing with these opponents will the two pirates be able to fight for the ultimate prize in the world of One Piece.
