Monkey D. Luffy began his pirate career as an unknown in the East Blue. He quickly gained notoriety, receiving a surprisingly high bounty of 30 million berries – an unusual amount for a new pirate in that region. As he continued his adventures, Luffy rapidly grew stronger, defeating powerful opponents one after another. He became a major figure during the escape from Impel Down and later led an attack on the Marine Headquarters during the Summit War. These actions drew the attention of the World Government, leading to consistently increasing and enormous bounties for his capture.
I’ve been watching Luffy’s journey, and he’s now one of the most powerful pirates – an Emperor of the Sea. Because of that, his bounty is already huge. It seems pretty certain he’ll get a new, even higher bounty after the events on Elbaf. The author, Eiichiro Oda, has hinted at this, and based on how the story is unfolding, it makes a lot of sense.
Luffy’s Current Bounty Sits At 3 Billion Berries

After a two-year break, Luffy quickly gained notoriety upon his return to piracy. His bounty initially jumped to 400 million berries due to the events of the Paramount War. Defeating Doflamingo further increased it to 500 million, a similar amount to Trafalgar Law’s bounty. Later, a raid on Whole Cake Island, where Luffy defeated two of Big Mom’s top commanders and stole a crucial map, significantly damaged Big Mom’s reputation and skyrocketed Luffy’s bounty to 1.5 billion berries. This also established him as one of the four most powerful pirates, known as the Emperors of the Sea.
The arc following the Whole Cake Island saga was a major turning point in One Piece, featuring Luffy’s battle against the seemingly unbeatable Yonko, Kaido. Luffy not only fought Kaido head-on but also unlocked the full potential of his Devil Fruit powers, ultimately leading to his victory. This win earned Luffy a spot among the Four Emperors of the Sea, replacing Kaido, and a massive bounty of 3 billion berries. Remarkably, Luffy’s bounty has remained at 3 billion berries, solidifying his status as one of the most powerful pirates alive.

Beating Imu Will Earn Luffy A Bounty Over 4 Billion
Luffy Vs Imu Is Set To Happen In Elbaf
Image by Toei Animation I’ve been following Luffy’s story, and it’s strange – his bounty is still at 3 billion berries. Even after everything that happened on Egghead – the huge incident that everyone’s talking about, and even being blamed for Dr. Vegapunk’s death – it hasn’t changed. He managed to escape the island in an unbelievable way, which you’d think would definitely raise his bounty, but so far, the story hasn’t shown any increase. It’s a bit of a mystery!
Things are set to change significantly after the events on Elbaf for several key reasons. We might not see Luffy’s updated bounty until after Elbaf, potentially revealed after what happens there. More importantly, the events on Elbaf are too big to ignore. Currently, Elbaf is causing problems for the World Government. Imu attempted to gain the Giants’ support by sending two Holy Knights to recruit Loki, but that plan failed. Now, three Holy Knights are in Elbaf, with Imu controlling one of them.

This arc will likely see Luffy confront Imu, and he won’t leave the people of Elbaf to face danger alone. He’s expected to defeat Imu and drive them away, meaning he’ll have overcome some of the most powerful Holy Knights and even battled the World Sovereign. This is a huge event with world-altering implications that no one can ignore.
The Giants will formally join forces with Luffy in this storyline, openly fighting against the World Government. This declaration of war, and their alliance with Luffy, will have a significant impact on the world, further cementing Luffy’s notorious reputation. Because of these events following the Elbaf arc, Luffy’s bounty is expected to increase substantially, likely rising from 3 billion berries to 4 billion berries.
Just like after the Paramount War, Luffy’s bounty is expected to increase significantly following the events on Elbaf. After the war, his bounty rose from 300 million to 400 million berries, and Oda frequently uses similar patterns with bounties. It’s predicted that Luffy’s bounty will jump from 3 billion to 4 billion berries by the end of the Elbaf arc, mirroring this previous increase.
Shanks And Blackbeard Will Also Receive New Bounties
The other powerful pirates known as Yonko are also causing trouble throughout the seas, so their bounties will likely be updated too. Buggy, in particular, leads a particularly dangerous crew that actively targets and hunts Marines in a way no other group has before. Because of this, his bounty is almost certain to go up.
Shanks is taking action for the first time, and seems much more forceful than usual, suggesting a significant increase in his bounty. Meanwhile, Blackbeard continues to rapidly increase his bounty; it recently reached almost 4 billion berries and is expected to climb even higher.
Luffy’s Last Bounty Before Becoming The Pirate King
Luffy’s Bounty Will Rise Over 5.6 Billion After Becoming The Pirate King
Image by Toei Animation Luffy getting a bounty of four billion berries after the Elbaf arc is expected to be a pivotal moment, and likely his last before the story of One Piece concludes. Reaching this amount would place him on par with Red-haired Shanks in terms of threat level. This bounty will be issued right before the final, all-out war begins, and it’s unlikely he’ll receive another one during the conflict itself. His next bounty won’t come until after he becomes the Pirate King, and at that point, it’s predicted to exceed even the legendary Roger’s, potentially surpassing 5.6 billion berries and making him the most wanted criminal ever. This makes the Elbaf arc a special one, as it will likely be the last time Luffy receives a bounty – a bittersweet thought for fans.
