This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
Last year marked the start of the Elbaf storyline in the popular series “One Piece,” and after nearly a year, many fans believe this is one of the best arcs the show has ever produced. However, with the story still unfolding, it seems we’re yet to reach its end. This means those eagerly anticipating updates about the happenings outside of Elbaf will have to exercise some patience.
The captivating happenings of the Elbaf storyline are set to significantly transform the realm of One Piece forever. Interestingly, many fans might not be aware that once the Elbaf arc concludes and the Straw Hats depart from Warland, a substantial time leap will take place within the series. This information has been explicitly confirmed by the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, who has emphasized this point on no less than three occasions.
Why A Second Timeskip After Elbaf Is Already Confirmed In One Piece
Oda Has Confirmed That Time Is Perceived Differently In Elbaf

- Louis Arnote Warned About Not Spending Too Much Time In Elbaf
- Imu Waited Too Long For The Holy Knights
Currently, the Elbaf storyline in “One Piece” is still ongoing with no signs of ending soon. However, this doesn’t diminish the fact that creator Eiichiro Oda has already hinted at a time jump after Elbaf, which he’s cleverly planned out. For those familiar with “One Piece,” the story entered a timeskip following the Summit War, during which Luffy and his crew trained to become stronger. The upcoming time jump post-Elbaf will differ in its nature.

Don’t overstay your welcome in Elbaf. — Louis Arnote
In the aftermath of Elbaf, the narrative won’t leap forward several years, and the Straw Hat crew will remain united. As they depart from Elbaf, time will progress much more swiftly compared to their previous stay, resulting in missed moments for the Straw Hats. This faster pace of time equates to a timeskip in the larger world context.

Some fans might find this confusing, but Oda has already made it clear in his story. The first clue originated from Louis Arnote, who advised fellow visitors not to stay too long in Elbaf. On its own, this may seem insignificant, but one must also consider Imu’s comments upon their arrival in Elbaf. Immediately upon arrival, Imu expressed frustration about the length of time it was taking the Holy Knights to transport the children to Marijoa. In comparison, it appeared that only a few hours had passed in Elbaf, but for Imu, this probably represented several days given their visit to Elbaf specifically to complete a task.
Has it been 3 or 4 years since Roger died now? — Scopper Gaban
Furthermore, Oda further explained in Loki’s flashback that time appears to behave differently within and beyond Elbaf. During their bathing session, Gaban mentioned it had been about three or four years since Roger perished, but Shanks contradicted him, stating that it was actually ten years ago. Evidently, Gaban seems to have a distorted sense of time.
The concept behind the second time jump as set by Oda is that time appears to move slower within Elbaf. However, it’s important to clarify that the actual flow of time doesn’t differ in Elbaf; if it did, it could lead to numerous inconsistencies in the world of One Piece. Instead, the inhabitants of Elbaf seem to experience time passing at a slower pace for some unexplained reason.
What Time Being Perceived Slower In Elbaf Means For The One Piece World
Many Weeks or Months Will Have Passed When Luffy Leaves Elbaf

After the Elbaf arc concludes, Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates may have stayed quite some time in the nation. If they reside there for an entire month, then the global situation could advance significantly during that period, potentially around 3.5 months. This significant leap in time often signifies a major development or resolution in the ongoing war between the Revolutionary Army and the World Government, possibly even its conclusion. Additionally, it could mean that other Yonko have seized opportunities during Luffy’s absence and gained prominence over him. No matter what creator Eiichiro Oda decides next, there’s one thing certain: One Piece is headed for a second timeskip, which should excite fans of the series!
