Some of us even speculated that all Vegapunks were betrayers, but the truth was far from simple. In time, we discovered that one of them had betrayed Stella – none other than York, a revelation that was not an easy one to make.

In essence, York embodied Vegapunk’s greed, which made her actions as a traitor highly plausible. She chose to ally with the World Government because she found her current life unfulfilling. Her primary goal was to ascend to the rank of Celestial Dragon, which is why she provided a fragment of motherflame and details about Vegapunk’s work on Poneglyphs to the World Government. The value of motherflame made it tempting for the World Government to consider her for the Celestial Dragons, while simultaneously demonstrating her loyalty by betraying Vegapunk and sharing his research findings with them.

In the Egghead Island Saga, the Elders dispatched Cipher Pol first to gather information on the island, followed by a Navy fleet with an Elder to permanently eliminate Vegapunk. It turned out that York had informed the World Government about the research on Poneglyphs that Vegapunk was doing. Simultaneously, York provided them with the motherflame, which was later confirmed when a significant chunk of it was stolen, and shortly thereafter, the World Government destroyed the Lulusia Kingdom using this information.

One of the weaponized sea beasts was used to send the piece of motherflame to the World Government and Vegapunk essentially realized that he had been betrayed by himself. Making his greed take manifestation as a real person was, perhaps, not the smartest decision after all.

To thwart York’s strategy, Vegapunk devised a series of clever maneuvers instead of following Shaka’s initial advice to flee Egghead. It quickly became evident that their escape plan wouldn’t succeed because the Navy surrounding Egghead had already been alerted, ensuring a futile demise for them either way. Rather than opting for safety, Vegapunk chose bravery instead. He prepared a pre-recorded summary of all his research, details of which have recently unfolded in the narrative. This recording contained crucial information about the Void Century, Joy Boy, Nika, and virtually everything else he knew.

Following this transmission, I found myself in a precarious situation, as Vegapunk had meticulously concealed his findings. The catalyst for this revelation was the grim news of Vegapunk’s demise. Yet, there remained a crucial secret that I needed to keep hidden from York, given our daily synchronization with Punk Records. To bypass this dilemma, he took an extraordinary step – one that was almost unimaginable. He erased his own memories, a move that left me stunned and bewildered in many ways.

As I took my final breaths, I penned a farewell note to myself – a revelation of the World Government’s awareness of my research and their impending claim on my life. With my last ounce of strength, I implored myself to trust in my abilities and meet my end with honor. This selfless act, I believed, would steer the world towards an exhilarating new chapter.

Additionally, the transponder snail was hidden within the Iron Giant, carrying a crucial message. When York inquired about it, he replied cryptically that his goal was to reactivate Motherflame, which would energize the Iron Giant once more. In essence, this was the final phase of Vegapunk’s plan, and all parts were executed successfully. Remarkably, both York and Lilith survived their ordeals, setting the stage for a climactic showdown between the two versions of Vegapunk in the Final Saga.
