This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
Fans of “One Piece” are thrilled to learn that creator Oda has decided to shine some light on the remarkable character, Rocks D. Xebec. After a long wait, the enigmatic Rocks D. Xebec is now taking center stage in “One Piece.” This development is due to the flashback of a beloved character, Loki, which has captured fans’ hearts.
Straight after Oda unveiled that Loki admired Rocks D. Xebec, it became apparent to the audience that Rocks would significantly feature in the One Piece’s Elbaf storyline. Now, with Oda disclosing extensive background information about Rocks and his pirate gang, fans are buzzing with anticipation.

In the narrative, it was initially revealed that Rocks boasted unmatched power and commanded the finest crew in One Piece. As time progressed, characters such as Kaido, Big Mom, Whitebeard, Shiki, Wang Zhi, Captain John, and numerous others joined his pirate band. This development left everyone astonished, even the Marines of the One Piece universe were perplexed about the Rocks Pirates‘ unusual strength and the number of formidable figures they had amassed under their command.

It appears that Oda has clarified the situation: The members of the Rocks Pirates did not voluntarily unite. There was no deep affection among them. Instead, they came together solely due to the Davy Back Fights in the One Piece universe.

Rocks Beat Captains And Took Crew Members

For anyone unfamiliar with Davy Back Fights or who may have missed that part of the narrative, these contests are essentially pirate-themed games where two captains can select crew members from each other’s teams. Typically, there are three rounds in a Davy Back Fight, but the number can vary. Once a round is completed successfully by a captain, they have the freedom to choose one of their opponents’ team members.
I witnessed a young man who was already leading a crew in Davy Back fights, despite not yet having his own flag to represent them.
Rocks D. Xebec forged the Rocks Pirates by consistently defeating one pirate crew after another, recruiting their strongest members to create what ultimately became known as the Rocks Pirates. It is speculated that Rocks may have bested powerful figures such as Kaido, Big Mom, and even Whitebeard.
Why The Rocks Pirates Failed

Interestingly, it was the lack of genuine affection among its members that made Rocks D. Xebec’s crew so formidable, yet ultimately caused its demise. Unlike other crews, they were bound together not by love, but by a shared goal and camaraderie in name only. This unconventional bond eventually proved to be their undoing.
On the island of God Valley, approximately 38 years ago, Rocks D. Xebec met his match – none other than the legendary Roger – with assistance from Garp. It was here that Rocks is said to have fallen, marking the start of the Age of Roger.
