One Piece: Oda Has Already Confirmed Luffy And Roger’s True Dream

This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.

Summary

  • Luffy and Roger share a dream beyond becoming Pirate King, hinted in One Piece 1138.
  • Dream revealed in mural from third world: create an equal, free world with unbreakable bonds.
  • Oda hints at Luffy’s dream to unite all races in freedom, similar to Big Mom’s dream.

The Elbaf arc from One Piece has been one of the most thrilling yet, and it’s clear that it will continue to improve as time goes on. Compared to other significant arcs like Wano Country, Dressrosa, Alabasta, and Water 7 in terms of scope, Elbaf was always destined to be a major event. In just 14 chapters, Oda has demonstrated that this arc meets the high expectations, making it an outstanding contribution to the final chapter of the story.

Initially, viewers anticipated that the Elbaf arc would disclose substantial details about Nika and the Void Century in some manner, following the significant revelations in Egghead. However, few suspected that Oda would unveil Luffy’s ultimate aspiration, which is why everyone is astonished to discover that he might have already hinted at it in the story.

Luffy And Roger’s Dream Went Beyond Pirate King

  • Luffy and Roger Share The Same Dream
  • Fans Don’t Know What The Dream Is

For a long time, it was thought that Luffy’s aspiration was to become the Pirate King. After all, when Luffy embarked on his voyage, he publicly declared his intention to rule as the Pirate King. Acquiring the “One Piece” is a challenging feat in itself, which makes it an admirable goal for Luffy. However, the reality is that obtaining the One Piece isn’t actually Luffy’s dream. It is his objective, undoubtedly, but what he truly yearns for is something far greater. This was suggested in the post-Marineford Arc of One Piece, where Luffy, Ace, and Sabo shared their dreams. Interestingly, Oda interrupted the conversation just as Luffy was about to reveal his own dream. However, what fans can confirm is that Luffy’s dream is something outlandish, considered unattainable by many, even more so than obtaining the “One Piece”.

Cooperation of this level in the past is unheard of. This must’ve been a child’s dream. — Ripley

In much the same vein, Roger’s aspiration resonates with me, and I could see that same passion burning within him when he faced off against both Oden and Whitebeard. Just like Luffy, he shared his dream with them, a dream that left even the hardened Whitebeard questioning its feasibility while Oden was left speechless in awe. Yet again, the mystery of this dream lingers, leaving fans in suspense, but I can’t help but feel that it is as grand and unattainable as Luffy’s own dream.

Roger may have claimed the One Piece, but it wasn’t his true aspiration. Whether or not he achieved his dream is uncertain, but it seems unlikely. It appears that Roger’s dream could be shared by Joy Boy, which explains why Luffy now inherits it. Luffy himself has declared this dream to the Straw Hat Pirates following the Wano arc. At first, the Straw Hats found this idea absurd. However, Luffy suggested that his dream might be achievable if he becomes the Pirate King. This suggests that if Luffy manages to become the most renowned pirate and claims the title of Pirate King, he may have a greater opportunity to fulfill his dream.

How Oda Revealed Luffy And Roger’s True Dream In One Piece 1138

The Mural Was Described To Be A Child’s Dream

In chapter 1138 of “One Piece,” Oda unveiled an awe-inspiring mural to fans, and within it, disclosed the secret of the Harley. The Harley narrative delves into the World Myth and outlines the events leading up to the destruction of the world. As per the Harley’s text, the world has been destroyed on two previous occasions, with our current world being the third one. It is destined that the Sun God Nika will reappear in this world again. The following is a summary of what the Harley’s inscription says:

First World

Fire swept across the land, driving humans to act against their better judgment by reaching for the off-limits solar orb. In desperation, captives implored their deity, and the Sun Deity manifested. The Earth Deity grew furious, joining forces with the infernal serpent of flames, casting a pall of death and shadow over the world. That meeting would never occur again.

Second World

Life awoke in the emptiness, and the Forest Deity unleashed its demons. The Sun merely fueled the flames of conflict. Those under the crescent moon had dreams, as did those under the full moon. Humans killed the Sun and rose to divinity, enraging the Sea God. Their paths would never cross again.

Third World

Amidst disorder, there lies stillness. Troubled echoes recall the anticipated day, and catch whispers from the shattered moonlight. The Dance of the Solar Deity resounds with laughter, guiding us towards our finale. Yet, the sun shall rise anew, heralding a fresh morn. Undoubtedly, this reunion is imminent.

Moving into Luffy’s vision, fans witness this scenario unfolding in the third world. Here, they can observe Nika joining forces with diverse races across the globe, aiming to defeat a character that strongly resembles Imu. This confrontation is unavoidable, yet it goes beyond simple conflict; it symbolizes an unprecedented level of cooperation among various global races. As Ripley points out, past conflicts were not as harmonious as this current alliance, which is why she views it as a child’s dream. However, this dream can be linked to Luffy and Roger’s shared vision. Oda refers to Luffy as the epitome of a child, while Whitebeard described Roger’s dream as “childish.

Combining pieces of information, it seems clear that Luffy aspires to establish a world where everyone enjoys freedom and equality, a place where all can celebrate together. By achieving this goal, Luffy will forge indestructible friendships across races. Once Imu is vanquished, he envisions an equal society where every race can be free. Interestingly, Big Mom shares a similar dream, seeking coexistence among all races; however, her realm, Totland, is ruled by her tyrannically. Perhaps in the future of One Piece, Oda will give us more insights into Luffy’s vision for this world.
