This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
The animated series “One Piece” is currently delving into the Elbaf arc, where author Oda is revealing substantial information about the Void Century, and in certain instances, even events that predate this period. Lately, fans have uncovered details about another legendary pirate, Davy Jones, who sailed the “One Piece” world during the Void Century. Previously, Davy Jones was only briefly mentioned during the Long Ring Long Land arc, but there was some uncertainty as to whether he was a genuine pirate or not.
In the Elbaf arc’s flashback sequence, creator Oda confirmed that Captain Davy Jones was indeed a genuine pirate who lived long ago in the One Piece universe. His true name was disclosed as Davy D. Jones, and it has been revealed that he is currently at odds with the World Government. Moreover, Davy Jones appears to have been a rival to Imu, and there’s strong evidence to suggest that he aspired to be the King of the World. Notably, recent revelations in One Piece suggest that Davy D. Jones may have possessed the Devil Fruit ability known as Yami Yami no Mi.

Blackbeard Was Searching For One Specific Fruit

- Rocks Also Wanted Two Specific Fruits
Davy D. Jones, an illustrious pirate, once clashed with Imu in ancient times. Given the World Government’s pursuit of his descendants, it is evident that Davy Jones posed a significant threat to their authority and existed as a powerful figure during the Void Century – a period when Devil Fruits first emerged.

It’s common knowledge among fans that Joy Boy possessed the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that Davy D. Jones also had a Devil Fruit, just like Joy Boy. In fact, Oda has already disclosed the specific Devil Fruit that Jones had, which is known as the Yami Yami no Mi or the Dark Dark Fruit, currently held by Blackbeard.
The Yami Yami Fruit, a Logia type Devil Fruit, grants its consumer the ability to manipulate darkness freely. This power enables them to create objects such as black holes, which have an extraordinary ability to draw in everything, even light. Moreover, what sets the Yami Yami Fruit apart is its unique feature: it can cancel out the powers of other Devil Fruits just by touching the user.

Why Davy Jones Having The Yami Yami no Mi Makes Sense
History Repeats Itself With The Davy Clan

The mysterious Yami Yami no Mi was initially discovered by Thatch, but later consumed by Teach, who tragically killed a fellow crew member for it. However, prior to these events, there hadn’t been anyone known to have wielded this Devil Fruit. It is widely believed that the last user of this fruit was none other than Davy Jones. This assumption arises from Rocks’ own admissions about seeking two specific Devil Fruits. He intended for Harald to consume one of them, specifically the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Since Rocks was also on the lookout for another Devil Fruit, it can be inferred that this would be the Yami Yami no Mi, a fruit Davy Jones once possessed long ago.
