One Piece: Oda Has Chosen The Final Straw Hat At Last

This article contains spoilers from One Piece‘s Elbaf Arc.

The latest chapters of One Piece are pushing the Elbaf arc forward with exciting new revelations. Chapter 1166 finally concludes the story of God Valley and shows the far-reaching consequences of Rocks’s defeat across the world.

Beyond that, Eiichiro Oda skillfully hinted at who might be the next member to join the Straw Hat crew. In chapter 1166 of One Piece, Oda strongly suggested that Loki could be the final addition, as Loki aims to follow the Sun God Nika – a figure Loki previously believed to be Rocks. Since Luffy is actually Nika, it’s highly likely Loki will ultimately follow him.

It’s not surprising that Loki might join the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy and Loki have already formed a connection, even if Loki doesn’t see it as a friendship. Importantly, Luffy doesn’t sense any ill will from Loki and actually asks him to become a crew member just before the story delves into the Elbaf flashback.

Hey Loki, join my crew. Elbaf doesn’t want you anyway. — Luffy to Loki, Elbaf Arc

If fans weren’t already convinced that Loki will become a Straw Hat, chapter 1166 of One Piece offers even stronger evidence. The chapter officially confirmed that Loki and Rocks D. Xebec had spoken multiple times after Xebec’s death.

I’m not going to listen to a Government lapdog like Harald! — Loki

Loki mistakenly thought Rocks was the Sun God Nika and believed Rocks intended to destroy the world, as an old legend from Elbaf predicted. Rocks corrected him, explaining he wasn’t interested in destruction, only in taking control. Then, Loki surprisingly offered to join forces and follow Rocks, believing him to be the Sun God.

One Piece chapter 1166 revealed Loki’s goal: to find and follow the Sun God Nika and ultimately destroy the world. Although Rocks wasn’t Nika, fans know Luffy is. Loki currently doesn’t realize Luffy is the Sun God, which explains why he turned down Luffy’s invitation to join his crew. However, as the fighting in Elbaf unfolds, Loki will discover Luffy is the Nika he’s been searching for his entire life. He initially refused to join the Straw Hat Pirates, but once he learns Luffy’s true identity, he’ll change his mind.

Considering everything revealed in the story so far, Loki is the most likely candidate to be the final member of the Straw Hat crew. He’s eager to leave Elbaf and join forces with Nika, and Luffy wants him aboard – they’re a natural fit. Fans can expect to see them fighting side-by-side, and potentially working together to overthrow the World Government.

It will likely be a while before we see major progress in the main story. The current flashback arc focusing on Elbaf is expected to continue for several months. After that, the story will probably return to Elbaf itself, where the biggest conflicts – including battles against the Holy Knights and Imu – will begin. In the meantime, fans can enjoy learning more about characters like Loki, Shanks, and Harald through the rest of the flashback.

The latest chapter of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece will appear in this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Chapter 1166 is scheduled for release on November 23, 2025. In Japan, it will be available at midnight on Monday, which translates to 11:00 AM Eastern Time and 8:00 AM Pacific Time. Fans can read the new chapter without charge on Manga Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
