The Straw Hat Pirates are, and always will be, the main focus of the One Piece story. From the very beginning, One Piece has followed Luffy and his crew, and that will continue in the Final Saga, where they’ll face even tougher opponents. Fans already know that with every challenge, the Straw Hats become more powerful.

Luffy, the captain, is now one of the four most powerful fighters in the world of One Piece, officially placing him among the strongest. However, the author, Oda, has also hinted at which member of Luffy’s crew, the Straw Hats, is currently the weakest.

There’s no question about who the strongest member of the Straw Hat Pirates is. From the start of the series, it’s been clear that Luffy is significantly more powerful than the rest of his crew. After defeating Kaido in Wano Country, Luffy earned his place among the Four Emperors. More recently, on Egghead Island, he battled and defeated Kizaru, and incredibly, even overcame the Five Elders. It’s clear that Luffy is the most powerful member of the Straw Hat crew.

Everyone agrees that Luffy is the strongest member of the Straw Hat crew in One Piece, but Usopp is generally considered the weakest. Although Nami and Usopp are fairly close in terms of strength, Nami has shown more impressive feats recently. Despite having a 500 million berry bounty, Usopp remains the weakest, a fact even acknowledged by the series creator, Eiichiro Oda.

Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has said that fans connect with Usopp because he’s surrounded by incredibly powerful characters. He hopes Usopp always remains the weakest member of the Straw Hat crew, even as new members join, and that Chopper will never see through his fibs.

Usopp Will Always Be Usopp

Just because Usopp is often considered the weakest member of the Straw Hat Pirates doesn’t mean he is actually weak. As future members of the crew of the Pirate King, everyone has a high level of strength to uphold. Even though he and Nami are generally the least physically strong, Usopp is still expected to be powerful.

Usopp will likely become more powerful, possibly by developing his Haki, and the journey to Elbaf will be significant for him. However, despite appearances, he’ll always be a bit of a coward who surprisingly rises to the occasion when it truly matters.

While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday (JST), most international fans will be able to read it on October 26, 2025.
