One Piece: Oda Has Officially Hinted At Imu’s Real Devil Fruit

This article contains spoilers for One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.

The Elbaf arc of *One Piece* has surprised everyone by revealing Imu as the series’ most powerful villain, leaving fans uncertain about where the story will go next. Currently, the author, Oda, is detailing Loki’s history, gradually unveiling his backstory.

After the brief look into the past, the story will return to the major conflicts revolving around Imu. We’ve already gotten a taste of what Imu can do, and it’s clear they possess a very powerful Devil Fruit ability. In fact, Oda has strongly suggested what Imu’s powers actually are.

Imu Is The Demon God Of One Piece

  • Imu Is a God Like Luffy
  • They Hold Demonic Magical Powers

Most *One Piece* fans didn’t expect Imu to appear as the main villain in Elbaf, and Oda surprised everyone by making it happen. Many fans are still surprised that Imu is actually on Elbaf and that this series’ primary antagonist will fight Luffy, potentially setting the stage for the massive war that’s coming soon.

Allow Mu to show thee the dominance of a God! — Imu

The next battle is shaping up to be incredibly exciting, especially because it will involve a clash between figures with god-like powers. Like Luffy, who is revealed to be the Sun God Nika, Imu also possesses divine abilities, likely granted by a Devil Fruit. This was strongly hinted at when Imu arrived in Elbaf and explicitly stated their intention to demonstrate the power of a god to everyone there, confirming they have these extraordinary abilities.

Imu’s Devil Fruit Is The Manifestation Of Evil

Imu Can Use The Power Of Evil

Similar to how Sanji draws strength from the Power of Love, it appears Imu utilizes a power rooted in evil. This suggests Imu’s Devil Fruit ability is directly linked to demons and dark forces. This connection explains Imu’s ability to control people like puppets and even amplify their power using this evil energy, further hinting that Imu embodies a truly demonic presence.

I shall grant you the power of evil! — Imu to Brogy

As a child, I dreamed of creating a manga with an incredibly exciting climax. I wondered if I could actually pull it off! Now, after 25 years, we’re nearing the end of the Wano arc and everything is almost ready. You can jump into the story right here if you like, because from now on… it’s going to be the ONE PIECE! I’m going to reveal all the secrets of this world! It’s going to be a thrilling ride, so please stick with me a little longer! — Eiichiro Oda, Author of One Piece, 2022

Imu’s appearance strongly suggests they are fundamentally a demonic being. Features like their black wings, pointed tail, and the trident they wield point to this. While this might not be their natural state, it’s definitely a significant manifestation of their true nature. Considering all the evidence, it’s reasonable to speculate about the type of Devil Fruit Imu possesses.

Imu Could Have The Leviathan Devil Fruit

Oda has hinted at what Imu’s power might be, and the most likely candidate is the ability of the Leviathan – a massive sea serpent with a connection to the Abyss, which matches the mark Imu carries. The Leviathan can control souls, giving or taking them, much like Imu, who seems capable of both granting immortality and shortening lifespans. If Oda has already shown us Imu’s Devil Fruit power, it’s almost certainly related to the Leviathan.
