One Piece: Oda Officially Confirms A New Character On Shanks’s Level

This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.

The latest arc of One Piece, beginning with Egghead, has been relentlessly exciting, with author Eiichiro Oda maintaining a fast pace throughout. The Elbaf arc has revealed fascinating new information about the One Piece world, and a major flashback is currently unfolding. Oda recently concluded the story of the God Valley Incident and is now shifting the focus to other characters, notably Shanks.

I’ve been watching One Piece, and it’s become clear that Shanks is incredibly powerful – he’s one of the Four Emperors, after all. The recent flashbacks have shown just how strong he was even then, but it’s also revealed he had a major rival: his twin brother, Shamrock Figarland. For a while, fans wondered how Shamrock measured up, but it turns out they’re actually equals in terms of skill. Still, I get the feeling Shanks has a slight advantage, and I’m really hoping we’ll see them fight it out in the final arc to prove it.

Shamrock Is Revealed To Be On Shanks’s Level

Fans widely consider Shanks to be among the most powerful characters in One Piece. As one of the Four Emperors (Yonko), he’s the last one remaining from his era. Shanks is an incredibly skilled swordsman, and despite not possessing a Devil Fruit, he currently has the strongest Haki in the series.

Few characters are as powerful as Shanks, and even fewer can compare. However, the author, Oda, recently revealed one character who is his equal: his twin brother, Figarland Shamrock.

Shanks and Shamrock were twins separated as babies after the battle at God Valley, and each had a very different upbringing. Shanks joined the Roger Pirates, while Shamrock was raised among the Celestial Dragons in Marijoa. Despite their contrasting environments, they both share remarkable abilities, as shown in One Piece chapter 1167. It’s not surprising, given they are twins, that both brothers are exceptionally talented.

Shanks Might Be The Stronger Of The Two

Although Shanks and Shamrock are equally skilled, Shanks is likely still the stronger of the two.

Ultimately, Haki reflects a person’s strength of will. Shanks simply has more willpower than Shamrock. While their skills and natural talent might be comparable, Shanks would still be more powerful when it comes to Haki.

Shanks vs Shamrock Would Be An Incredible Battle To Witness

Eiichiro Oda surprised many One Piece fans by revealing that Shanks has a twin brother. The introduction of Shamrock has led to speculation about the classic “twin” storyline. With Shanks and Shamrock seemingly on opposite sides, a fight between them would be a major highlight of the Final Saga. While they share many similarities, key differences between the two brothers could make for a truly compelling battle.

If Oda has Shanks face off against Shamrock, it would definitively demonstrate Shanks’ superiority. Plus, if Shanks is also revealed to wield a Devil Fruit-enhanced sword, we could witness a battle between Gryphon and Cerberus – something completely new to the world of One Piece.

Both Shanks and Shamrock are expected to be major players as the story of One Piece comes to a close. It will be exciting to see how Oda incorporates them, particularly in the upcoming Elbaf arc and beyond. Many fans are also eager to learn more about Garling Figarland and his connection to everything. Since Shanks recently reappeared in Marijoa during the flashback, seeing his relationships with his brother and father would be fantastic.

The latest chapter of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece will appear in this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Chapter 1167 is scheduled for release on December 1, 2025. In Japan, it will be available at midnight on Monday, which translates to 11:00 AM Eastern Time and 8:00 AM Pacific Time.
