This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf Arc.
In the latest instalment of “One Piece,” I’ve just delved into the fascinating depths of the character, Rocks D. Xebec, and his impressive might. Alongside this, intriguing tidbits about the world within “One Piece” were also unveiled. However, it’s evident that Rocks D. Xebec was undeniably the star attraction in this chapter.
56 years back, the whole Reverie incident that led by him was meticulously unveiled for fans, leaving them in awe. Though the main focus was on Rocks and his pirate crew throughout the tale, Oda subtly disclosed numerous intriguing facts about Hol D. Roger, such as the circumstances under which he rose to become the mightiest of his time.

- Roger And Garp Teamed Up To Beat Rocks D. Xebec
In the annals of his pirate career, Roger encountered no foe more formidable than Rocks D. Xebec. This was attested by Sengoku, while viewers got a glimpse of this rivalry in Kuma’s flashback. It’s clear they had a long-standing rivalry and probably engaged in numerous battles. Moreover, it seems highly likely that the year preceding the God Valley Incident saw them clash, with Roger suffering significant injuries that lingered, hinting at a possible defeat.
It’s been one year since. Do you have any idea of how I’ve felt all this time? — Roger
In the sacred realm of God Valley, Roger and Rocks crossed paths once more. On this occasion, it was not just Rocks who emerged victorious; instead, a combined effort by Garp and Roger resulted in Rocks suffering defeat. Despite popular belief among fans that Rocks possessed greater strength than Roger, the narrative suggests otherwise in this instance.
It’s evident now that Roger significantly increased his strength following their confrontation with Rocks. Intriguingly, he even seized Rocks’s most powerful weapon and adapted it for his own use.

Rocks’s Fighting Style Was Copied By Roger Later
In chapter 1155 of the One Piece manga, Oda elaborates on how Rocks engages in combat. Unlike a typical swordsman, Rocks is distinct. His weapon isn’t used for slicing; instead, his attacks resemble a hammer or cannon, surprisingly, given he wields a blade. What sets Rocks apart is that his sword emits shockwaves of Haki, making him extraordinarily unique. When Rocks fights, he has the power to send everyone nearby flying.

It’s interesting to note that the same fighting style employed by Gol D. Roger is remarkably similar to the one developed by Rocks. However, what fans understand is that while Roger mastered and adapted Rocks’s method to suit his style.
Roger Became The Strongest, With Whitebeard Matching Him
Thirty-eight years past, Roger engaged in a battle with Rocks within the God Valley. It is plausible that during this confrontation, Roger absorbed Rocks’ formidable sword skills, ultimately leading him to perfect this martial art and achieve his immense strength.
By the time of his final battle against Whitebeard, Roger had already mastered this skill, as shown by his use of it on Oden and later against Whitebeard himself. While Roger may have been weaker than Rocks at first, he developed his own skills to match or even surpass Rocks’. In his time, Roger was the strongest, with Whitebeard being his only equal.
